Only the K series is good, d/fs are single cam, h22s need sleeves for boost and b series are baby Ks a all motor k series beats a boosted B all day.

I feel the VW TDI engines are often looked over but they can make good power and retain fuel economy. My 15 Passat has a hybrid turbo. Will dyno eventually. Should show around 200-220whp and 380-400ft-lbs of terx. Just enough for fun and not going too deep or sacrificing reliability. Gets 50+mpg, tires can bark into third on dry pavement, and there is very little to no black smoke. Can be tuned for more power.

The 4g63 is officially the ultimate 4 cyl, Jett racing in Australia has the world record for most powerful 4 cyl with 2000hp @ 112psi. It ran a 6.200 1/4 in an 04 eclipse!

The 4G63 is certainly one of the top three, but the Honda B series has also cracked the 2000 HP mark with a 2 litre displacement. At the end of the day its pretty hard to argue which is the very top because when you look at modified engines, everything is customised and each for a different purpose...

K series is better in a straight line but the b series is better around corners because the K series engine lifts up when accelerating but the B series pushes down.

One engine that you might want to consider on the list is the B205R Hot. Great running engine, easily upgradable, and can make tons of HP and Torque. I have a 2000 Saab 9-3 SE with one in it. Does have some upgrades. Very quick, and quite fun to drive. Perfect sleeper that hurts a lot of people's feelings.

When you said “Best 4 cylinder engines” I was expecting reliability, then power output capabilities. I guess I was wrong!! 😂 Where are the 4AGE, 3SGE/GTE, EJ20 are more reliable than EJ25, B16/18, B6/BP?? And yes, that stach has to go 😂 and wear your 🧢 until your hair grows back!!

JMC those engines you mentioned are good engines but they dont match up the SR20,4g63 and honda when modded.

Conrad Sealy You’re right, a 3S-GTE is far more reliable at 600whp on stock internals. One of mine is thirty years old and the other is twenty five years old. Neither have ever been open and they’ve been running 25PSI for decades.

Kenar Lee weird how he mentioned the 2ARFE over the 2AZFE. The 2AZFE was the one that actually got tuned more often because it was in the first gen tCs. It was also in the Camry, RAV4, and a handful of other Scions that it let a lot of these platforms have mods made for them. There’s turbo’d Camrys, RAV4s, xB’s, and so many other Toyota’s you wouldn’t even think twice about. The blocks can handle a very good amount of boost too, someone has an AE86 with a turbo 2azfe in it pushing 700hp

1.8t belongs on the list. . 5 valves for cylinder and turbocharged make it legendary. It's introduction in the mk4 GTI was a big step for tuner cars.

I have to say the 4G63 is the best 4 cylinder engine. They are beasts!! Can handle so much boost and some of my friends that had them even with 500HP got well over 200K miles out of the stock bottom end. One of them with just bolt on’s and around 400HP had 290k miles on it before he decided to go ahead and rebuild the engine. It still ran great and passed compression tests. That was an awesome motor!! And the first 4 cylinder motor in my small town to take down lots of V8’s in the late 1990’s. My friends 1st gen AWD Talon TSI made all those old timers with their V8’s so mad lol. Off the line while they’re still spinning he was already 2 or 3 car lengths ahead of them lol. The good old days.

My dad used to have a second generation Mitsubishi L200 (mighty max in the US I guess) and it had a 4G63B and that thing was SO reliable and powerful. That's why I became a Mitsubishi fan

I had the S2000’s grandfather and father back in the 60’s while stationed in Japan. Yes, the S600 and S800’s the S600’s redline was 11K and the S800 was 9.5K! Both were coupes and so much fun to drive it was almost sinful!

For sure!! 4G63 is beast!! Love the DSM’s. I have a friend that still has a 1st gen eclipse GS-T and a 1st gen Talon TSI AWD, both 5 speeds. Unfortunately they’ve been just sitting in his driveway for the past 18 years or so. I’m probably going to get the Talon off of him, strip it down and make it a project. That car pissed off so many old timers with V8’s back in the day lol.

Opel GM C20LET, Ford Cosworth YB, Toyota 3SGtE, Ford 16v BDA, BMW M12 there are even more Engines, who are capable 600 and up to 1000hp. The BMW M12 was from an ordinary Car an in Stock it has about 70 HP. But they use this Engine for Formula 1 in the 80s with over 1400hp.

I had a Pontiac G6 with the 2.3L LE5 engine and swapped in the LNF 2.0L supercharger into it. Made 297hp to the wheels. If I had to do it again I would have just bought a G8.

i am installing a 2.2 ecotec engine into my 1984 alfa romeo spider, , with a 1997 w/c t5 transmission.. 10.5/1 compression. lots of head work, block decked 0.08 inch to get the pistons closer to top dead centre on the block, with enough to keep it safe.. the oem conrod , i polished to mirror finish. stainless steel headers, with a spun metal cat.. 2.4 intake manifold, with a 2.2 throttle body, and adapter to fit ( cbm motorsports ) at the flywheel. 217 hp at 7100 rpm, and 187 ft/lbs tq at 4800 rpm, but nothing less than 156 ft/lbs tq from 1000 rpm to redline.. to fit the engine into my alfa romeo. i cut the firewall to push it back as far as i could.. the hood and boot are s2 fiberglass and carbon ( took about 45 pounds off the car ) should be on the road soon, new custom wiring harness for the car.. and need to set up fuel lines.. dash id custom.. fiberglass and foam, using insterment panel from a 1998 ford mustang v8 ( has stock tack to 8000 rpm) my car has soft cut out at 7300 rpm. brakes are upgraded to 12.19 inch vented disk all four corners type you bolt onto the hat ( 2 part brake disk,, and 4 piston brembos from a 1999 porsche boxster.. forgot.. oem 2 liter engine 115 hp and 120 tq

You really did miss one... the Toyota 4AGE / 4AGZE(forged and supercharged and basically bullet proof most got theit chargers swapped for turbos) they where EXTREMELY popular in countries outside the US as a low budget turbo platform. with some serious power potential and reliability.

Mod for Mod the SRT4 and Evo are way ahead of all these 4bangers. Stock block they can handle good power and with just bolt ons and tune your taking a lot of V8s on the street

Although I’m Honda all the way, i give credit where credit is deserved, the 4G63 is and in my opinion the GOAT. And another unpopular Honda opinion i like the B16 more than the K20. Call me nostalgic or whatever but i won’t stop there, i even like the single jingle d16y8/z6 more than the K series. Wild huh?

He definitely confused the EJ25 with the EJ20 when its comes to rally heritage. At no point ever was the EJ25 used in WRC. All engines at the time of The STi competing were 2.0T EJ20s. The EJ25 was designed for western markets to meet western emissions standards.

2017-2020 Audi A3 2.0T (factory 228hp 258tq) is affordable and can be tuned to about 800hp or more. (Definitely 500-600 reliably) with a tune some pipes and a bigger turbo that’s not including bigger injectors or full internal swaps or anything like that. Also has a dual clutch transmission, launch control built in, adjustable suspension package (optional) and 4.77 gear ratios to help propel it 0-69 in 5.4 seconds 0-60 AND 3 way adjustable steering angles which is basically a track car for the street. Awd too on it with a car weighing 3200 pounds is not bad also a borg Warner built haldex system and stock turbo is also borg. That car cost as much as a stock Camry nowadays (32k for base 42k for premium plus and 46k for prestige brand new) I bought mine for 30k with 17k on the clock and it’s still running strong! and.. won’t feel like your dads refrigerator when you start it up.. 👍

my 1.8t is at about 450 awhp but capable of 700 awhp. just rods and pistons and is easily capable of 500 awhp

The Chevrolet cobalt SS used an LSJ (supercharged variant) and the LNF (Turbocharged variant) but they were both 2.0L’s the 2.2L was naturally aspirated and used in the base models.

I agree with you that they are all Brilliant 4 Cylinder engines,,, But you have missed or forgotten 2. The Toyota AE111 20v engine. There were 2 variations. The Silver and Blacktop and also the 3sge (NA) and 3sgte (Turbocharge) Beams engines.

How about the old GM Quad4/W41? A legendary motor; easy power with cams and exhaust, stout as a trout, and fuel efficient. Ahead of its time for factory N/A 4-cylinder power. Also, let's give credit where credit is due: Yamaha is the real daddy of all multivalve heads(and for many different car manufacturers).

Ford recalled and fixed that issue. The head gaskets put on the RS's were the wrong part numbers. The heads from the Mustang 2.3L are slightly different so those head gaskets were the ones that were accidentally installed on the Focus RS by mistake.

Gotta love the f20c engine, way more rev happy than the f22c. The f22c had more torque though with a rev limit of 8700 I believe? Honestly I’ve always have been looking for a 2003 s2k all factory original with the spa yellow pearl. One day I’ll have one.

All of the rally wins were the 2.0.. not the 2.5. WRC cars had to be 2.0s (that’s why the 4g63 is a 2.0 too) also no headgasket issues for the 2.0! love the videos man! Keep it up!

The ford's 2.3 eco boost is basically ford's version of mazda's 2.3 mazda speed engine for the speed 3. Stock, the mazda's 2.3 was a few hp stronger. Also mazda and ford designed it together, but also slightly different between the two brands in their own cars

It's not a Mazda....it's a Ford Lima 2.3 and have powered formula Ford and mini sprints for decades and definitely should have been on the list

Actually, the SRT-4 engine is more based on the mexican 2.4l turbo Stratus RT H.O with 225 hp and a 4speed automatic. Also found on the first gen mexican Stratus RT, but in this case, with only about 170 hp
