Soaping in a temperature-controlled environment definitely helps but if that is not possible try adding the lye in to the oils to heat them up. Its called the heat transfer method, I haven't tried it but I know some people have had success with it.

Hi! Thanks for the info on how to avoid false trace! If we did notice it a day later, can it still be mixed more to fix it at that point? :)

With my experience that batch is gone unfortunately. This is why testing in small batches is important! Always leave room when you're creating a new recipe to budget for things like this!

I made a dish soap added sodium bicarbonate to fully coconut oil soap at light trace and poured in the mould after sometime pool of oils were floating on slab mould and in individual mould no issues. Can i know how to correct it.

Sounds like when you scaled it up some ingredient percentages might have needed to be adjusted also and/or the light trace was a false trace and you just need to mix it a little longer.

I guess I had the problem yesterday and had too much hard oils (wanted to make triple butter soap with mango Shea coconut and cocoa) and i had 9,5oz of liquid oils and 19,5 oz of hard oils warmed up to 115F while the lye solution was somewhere in between 90-100 F. It was very grainy after i wanted to scoop and decorate the top but after 12ish hrs it looks okay. It looks not smooth and has many "white" spots but no liquid phase at the surface. I don't want to waste the batch, is it possible to do a pH test after 3 days when I am cutting the batch and if it's at around 9 I could use it right? Or should is cut the bar and try hot process to rescue it and just to be safe

Hi, Joanna! Can you give insight on how to warm hard butters/oils in the intermediate phases of scaling your business? What do you do when you’re wanting to make batches that are too big for microwave/stovetop but not big enough for huge drums?

Using a large wax melter or presto pot! Makesy has a couple different sizes. Use code SOAPGAL10 for 10% off! makesy.com/search?q=wax+melter&type=product
