I the past I have run a road draft tube or sorts but piped it into my exhaust. 4" straight pipe so there wasn't any back pressure to worry about and no smoke or smell from blow by.

Mike, thank your for your explanations in detail, and your examples. I just got a 1988 250 7.3 IDI I've got problems but your helping.. Thank you for that. Please keep them coming PS. I don't think my glow plugs are getting energized. I have more details, but perhaps for another place Thanks again

The CDR also keeps the intake from pulling a vacuum on the crank case at higher rpm. The intake draw helps with venting the crank case, as I learned through my RDT trials. RDT doesn't vent effectively enough and your perfectly fine rear main seal will act as a pressure relief valve and leak oil like a sieve. I reinstalled the CDR and the RMS hasn't leaked since.

Diesels dont make vacuum, because there is no throttle plate, esp. on an idi. Thats why they have vacuum pumps.
@joshfetz02314 жыл бұрын
@@flatbrimsickdope2050 Just the slight vacuum created by the air filter
@jaredbrandt96022 жыл бұрын
@@flatbrimsickdope2050 There is most definitely vacuum at the location of the CDR outlet. The closer you get to the cylinder, the higher the vacuum pulse...that's why they put the CDR as far away from the cylinder's as possible, but after the air filter b/c there's a lot of oil mist. Just air rushing past a port at 90 degrees will pull a vacuum.

I am looking for an air cleaner to replace the factory stock ford assembly that is missing the lid. The fuel intake is flush with the other components on my 6.9L IDI so the bottom of the assembly needs a flat bottom with a short riser to connect. Is that an Edelbrock 1207? Did you need any mods to get it to connect?
@groundtogreen11406 жыл бұрын
duckponics this was actually a K+n version but test fitted the edelbrock one literally just gotta open up top lid diameter

Hi Mike ,One more thing ,I see a little oil in my CDR which has been on the truck since 2000. if i replace the Cdr with a new one will that keep the oil from getting into my intake
@groundtogreen11406 жыл бұрын
Lance Gordon not necessarily they didn't do the best job as it was in preventing oil vapor in the intake and I personally don't see anything wrong with a little vapor . mine was always wet even with a new cdr but never caused issues

hey, look my 6.9 runs very well sounds great, starts perfectly however crankcase ventilation , seems to have a bit from oil fill . lossing some oil from base doesn't appear to be burning that much. if I was burning oil in this amount I'd also have other troubles. intake does resemble oil. how can I decifer blow-by-blow pressure and just venting. thank you. for reading this .
@groundtogreen11407 жыл бұрын
due to the second ring gap on these engines blow by is a little more common with these vs other diesels if everything is running good and oil psi/consumption is good sounds like you just have normal idi blow by and from what Id also assume adequate ventilation of the crankcase

Mike Grn I was looking at another vid I may install valve seals just to be certain. this engine is refurbished . I sent away for it had it delivered from from factory/ warehouse. a few yrs old now I'd say 20 to 30 K Max on it at this point. not used alot in the course of 4 yrs. thank you this truck means alot to me. I wish this engine would go back in to circulation .

hey Mike. got a 91 7.3 idi non turbo and want to replace my factory air cleaner with an Eldebrock. from one of your previous replies it appears that 1221 or 1227 will fit with reboring the hole size in the cover. any input that will help and which model Eldelbrock is best?

what is blow by?
@groundtogreen11407 жыл бұрын
this is the proper google definition lol The term blow-by , means that the fuel air mixture blows past the piston , and into the crankcase. The system used to control and correct this problem , is called a PCV system - Crankcase ventilation system. it's normally indicative that you have piston ring wear.

Why not just have the tube go to the intake & not have a POS valve that can cause a head gasket failure. My 7.3 PS has the little metal mesh box that has a tube that does to the intake before the turbo. Just let the thing breathe, no stupid pos EPA S$&T. Or make it stick open permanently, so it’s just an empty box.

I later deleted on this truck when I upgraded the turbo then I sold it
