Back out on the f**ked up backyard project, I was able to rent a paladin M6 harley/power rake for the day to rake everything out. After a bit of trial and error, I finally figured it out and got this backyard looking great. Owner was super happy too! Now all that's left is a little fine grading with the bucket and this yard will be ready!

I love the use of the rake. So smooth and clean. It's powerful and makes a huge difference with the ground. I love the camera view and watching the dirt get tossed around. Great video!

Its gonna take some time before you learn how to use that power rake to its fullest potential. Its supposed to set on the wheels all the time when using it. That way as the drum cuts the wheels are riding on the part the drum cut and the wheels keep the drum digging at a constant grade. They work together. You don't have to try and tilt it back off the wheels to make it dig deeper. Keep it on the wheels for the best results. Run the rotation of the drum to kick the stuff in front of the rake while going forward to separate the rocks and roots and toward the skid steer to dig and level while backing up. Which you did for the most part. If you keep the wheels on the ground the rake will pull the dirt and level the low spots automatically. Also look and feel the high spots and don't make full runs from low on one side over the high spot to low again. Start at the high spot and pull the top off in to the low spots. Which I'm sure you know, I just didn't see you doing that in the video but I'm not saying you didn't do it off camera because you got it fixed. They are hard to figure out but once you get it down and know how it all works it's an awesome piece of equipment. You did very good for the first time running one. Just make sure you're running it like its supposed to be run so you don't pick up a bad habit of running it incorrectly. Good video. Stay safe. -Wil 👍

Keeping the wheels on the ground causes unnecessary wear and tear on the power box. The professionals that own their own attachments hardly ever let the wheels touch at all other than setting the float. I guess if the rake is a rental and the skid steer is entirely too small , keeping the tires on the ground could help with control for an inexperienced operator. The majority of repairs we do on this attachment is replaceing the knuckles and bearings due to the operator unknowingly putting too much pressure down on the front.
@williambryant5946
@williambryant5946 2 жыл бұрын
@@JusticeforLiberty I agree not to put excess pressure on the wheels but I still use it with the wheels on the ground. I've not had the knuckles or bearings wear out on mine yet after 3 years of frequent use. It's an art to running any type of equipment and it can be used different ways to get the same thing done without tearing it up. With a rental power rake I could see those parts getting worn out fast because how much it's used and incorrect use due to the person using not caring how they use it as long as they get their job done. If I tears it up it's not theirs to have to fix so they could care less which makes them not care to use it correctly. I understand where you're coming from.

Looks good. Good job! There is definitely is a learning curve. I can not speak for operation of the rake on a skid loader but I have a T8 behind my 70 hp tractor. This rake will grade. Few tips. Use the gauge wheels. Don’t be afraid to burry the drum in the first pass. On the finally finish pass to get seed bed prep keep a small amount of dirt in front of the drum. It keeps small debris from filtering between the drum and barrier. Next time you rent you will more efficient with. I use my to chew up and grade gravel driveways. I have yet to meet someone who used a power rake didn’t like it!

Dont mean to be a critic here and i know this is an old video but it looks like the drum is spinning the wrong way. The top should be spinning back toward you so youre not flinging material up at your machine. the dirt should be collecting in the box portion of the rake so it can level as you move forward. Use the tilt function to adjust the drum depth.
@fuddmethen
@fuddmethen 2 жыл бұрын
you can really screw up a yard with a harley rake quick. gotta go slow, and easy, power angle makes the world of difference to be able to love the material to the side it needs to go on. set your wheels down and go easy adjusting little by little or use your float

I know you might have already thought of this, but be careful when renting attachments that requires your machines huydrlic . Your at the mercy of all the people that has hooked it to there machine before you, and the way some people take care of there machines your hole hydraulic system could be contaminated with who knows what. Just a thought to think about. Had a friend that had to have his hole system flushed out. He had rented an auger that hat automatic transmission fluid run in it the last time it had been rented. That's one thing I don't do is loan any of my attachments out that requires there hydraulic fluid to run , I just don't want to mix there fluids with mine. Love your videos keep up the good work.

I second this......seen it happen. Saw a Cat 262 get the hydraulic pump wiped out from metal shavings that came from a different machine. I won't rent attachments. I put money away, and purchase when the time is right. And I don't rent attachments to friends. Actually, now that I have brand new machines, I don't let them out of my sight either. LOL
@dougs2301
@dougs2301 9 ай бұрын
how would he know if it transmission fluid? Cat machines come from the factory with red dyed hydro in the system. it looks just like trans fluid but it's not. The manual states the red dye helps identify leaks when they first set up the machine.
@anthonycash4609
@anthonycash4609 9 ай бұрын
@@dougs2301 the safest thing is to not rent attachments from any company. Just like you say cat runs a red die in theres. Kubota has there on huydrlic fluid just as takeuchi has there recommended fluid. As all the others. So if you value your machine the safest thing to do is buy your attachments that requires huydrlic fluid and not rent. Only rent attachments that dont require fluid.

A decent harley rake will make you good money. Mine has a float feature to it and power angle. Resurfacing rock roads is amazing with it. Hydroseeding can be hard work until you do it about 10 times, can clog the machine up easily if you are not moving.. Looks good, the more time you spend in the easier gets and the better you get.

Check your weather, if it calls for some light showers in the next couple days, broadcast the seed and let Mother Nature do her thing. Go across the slope with the rake, it will help to keep the rain from washing everything downhill. If its predicting heavy rain don't seed. You don't necessarily need to cover the seed with straw, use a leaf rake and gently over rake the areas that you set seed. With a little moisture the grass will germinate quicker. As for the equipment and the pivot, if you don't have a drop pin or bolt with you to drop in the hole the try a tapered stick in it, will work, you just might to replace it more often. Having done this kind of work and have lost pins over the years, always carry a spare or two, in the tool box, saves a lot of frustration.
