Cameron's Bird story 1:50 Cam is joined by a bird on each shoulder. And several birds on the bush behind him. 25:02 a bird lands on Cams head. There is still a bird on each shoulder. 1:20:18 the camera switches to Cam to show the birds are all still there 2:13:16 The bird on Cams head moves to the microhone and he still has a bird on each shoulder. 2:19:34 four more birds join the party! They land on Cam's head. 2:23:14 Two more small birds join and rest on Cam's collar. 2:3208 A duck joins and Cameron hold the Duck to keep him calm. 2:44:55 all the birds including a yellow bird from the bush flock to his head. They create a crown of birds. An Owl comes to sing a quick song then leaves. 2:52:50 The largest of the birds asserts dominance and claims the head. All the other birds flock to the collar.

I don’t think it’s reasonable to say it saved your life unless your life was threatened in some way. You can certainly say it helped your life, or helped you grow as a person. You can say you value the show tremendously, if that it means a lot to you and has impacted you deeply. But I feel like people who are using the words “saved my life” are, without a doubt, implying the influence of the show has prevented them from serious self-harm, or provided stability, entertainment, distraction, community, and understanding that helped them out of depression, loneliness, hopelessness, and other various states that could’ve led them down a road of self harm. I do think people really mean it when they say that, but it can also come from thinking “this show brings me so much happiness I didn’t have before I watched it, so where would I be without it?” And that can lead them down the path of thinking the influence this show has on their lives saved them from whatever terrible life they had before, or would’ve had without it. All of it is valid for sure :)

My dad died of colon cancer. He had health insurance via his work, but I think he usually skipped giving stool samples, which might have alerted his doctors earlier. He was complaining of diarrhea for a few weeks. He thought it might have just been infected water -- he was a cameraman, usually goes out to locations, some of their water might have been exposed to sun for a while, etc. But then he was advised to get a colonoscopy, and that's how his cancer was diagnosed. My dad was a heavy smoker and drinker in his 20s and those lifestyle factors were the biggest contributor, although I knew him as a very athletic person-- always running, climbing, boxing. Ethan noting the higher risk for Black men must be genetic in some ways, but also due to less access to healthcare, distrust of medical professionals, food deserts and other factors directly linked to being more marginalized. If you are able, always get an annual physical exam. Provide stool samples. And get a colonoscopy starting at 35.

When I got pregnant I stopped watching true crime because I was convinced it played a roll in my depression. And I have to say I've been in an over all better mood, even being a first time mom. It's been like a year and half and I haven't gotten back on meds or anything. True crime definitely can be intresting and for lack of a better word entertaining, but I definitely believe it can make depressed people worse off. Totally think Ethan should take a break and see if he feels better after a little while.

Why do you think so many more women are into true crime? I’ve heard people mostly pretty jokingly say they’re attracted to the killers which I don’t find totally implausible, could also imagine it being a way to indirectly obsess over fears. Or is it like sublimated female rage and they imagine themselves committing the atrocities? Lol
@SpiderKelsey Жыл бұрын
@@Unclejamsarmy I think it’s more of how to avoid certain situations. Most of these crimes are committed by men and so knowing how to look for signs and what the signs are can be literally life saving. I find it extremely difficult listening to or watching true crime because of how scary the world already is. But being informed in healthy doses can be super helpful in real life situations. I personally avoid it now because I get to anxious. But I learned a lot.
@Unclejamsarmy Жыл бұрын
@@SpiderKelsey I get where you’re coming from I think, but “it’s a rational way to ensure your safety” is definitely not it, and if it was you’d see a massive amount of media consumption about womens self defense and security but we don’t, that’s a tiny fraction of the true crime lane

@RIP Bernie Worrell 👑 Personally, I'm interested in psychology, and that's why I like true crime. Although I've definitely found I need to take breaks as OP said. Google can give you more on that 👍

I have severe OCD and I get how Howie feels because we can be some of the most outgoing, super energetic people who are so friendly but a massive part of why our OCD exists is because of that, that element of our personality is something so important and dear to us that the fear of losing it or doing the total opposite of it is what causes us this horrible debilitating anxiety at times and we constantly have to be doing stuff because if we leave room for it, those intrusive thoughts start to seep in. It also sucks cause we work so hard to reach a point to manage it and a lot of what we do in life we do to accept it and manage it but people don’t get that and constantly being put down in whatever we’re trying to achieve seriously de-rails us (no pun intended with the show) it’s such a pain and I find myself asking my dad constantly when it’s at its worst “why is this happening to me?”. Joe’s not totally wrong because it can help manage it, stuff like that but same time… if you found what works for you then chill on telling people how to manage it unless they’re needing actual help finding it.
