The 6 hours interview wasnt so Swoop could probe Johnny it was an interview to get his side. Johnny talked in circles so much Swoop got suspicious, did further research, swoop and her team discovered all of this. She didnt trick him into telling on himself, he did it unprovocked. Just wanted to clarify because i keep seeing and hearing people say she got him but she really had pure intentions and its really sad her platform got miused like this. I have to admit I found Johnny very unlikable during the call in, he kept talking over Oliver and Becky. I remember he essentially took over the entire first hour not letting either of them speak, and then when they were sharing it was like he couldn't return the favor and listen quietly like they had done for him. At the time I obviously did not say anything because a victim is a victim even if unlikable, but it's interesting how even back then I was getting an off vibe from him and felt like he was trying to get all the attention for his stuff. Becky and Oliver, in my opinion, had far worse things that were more interesting to learn more about and we ended up getting very little of their stories. I can't pretend I am all that surprised to see Swoop found inconsistencies and revealed problematic intentions and thoughts.

my opinion in all of this, and I think a lot of peoples opinion, is that johnny hates josh for “abandoning” him and not guiding him to stardom like he believes josh promised. He thought josh was his ticket to stardom. he thought he had found his “in” and when josh didn’t live up to his expectations, his resentment grew. this resurfacing of the colleen drama was an opportunity for him to piggy back off of real victims statements with his own stories to try and desperately gain back any sort of fame or notoriety. i mean think about it. he admitted that in january of this year he attended a miranda sings show to attempt to salvage any relationship that was once there. when that didn’t work, suddenly colleen is the enemy. he didn’t go to her show to rekindle some sort of friendship. he went to see if he could find a way to latch onto her and propel his way back into the spotlight. his story changed so often and it often looked like he was trying to “one-up” adam. i personally think johnny needs to delete all of his social media platforms and just do a full internet detox. he needs to live in the real world and come to terms with what kind of person he wants to be. a lying, manipulative, victim-blaming, clout-chasing and narcissistic clown is what he is now. in my opinion, it’s better if he leaves the internet and doesn’t come back for a while. he shouldn’t try to salvage anything because it only deflects attention away from the real issue at hand which is colleen ballinger.

When Johnny was on H3, he centered himself and monopolized the whole convo. He made himself more important, while never showing any actual evidence or having any real claims. He posted about Josh day in and day out and it became so clear that he was obsessed with Josh. All this was was him being an obsessed stalker fan. When Josh realized, he distanced himself and Johnny is out for vengeance.. He already barely talked to Johnny and talked to him mostly all in public and how a guy would talk to his fan.. I mean, him saying on Twitter "come to my show!" and Johhny taking that as a personal invite, saying he was personally invited and messaging them to PICK HIM UP?! My depression and anxiety came to a breaking point when I was a teen, I would have loved to have someone in a place where I am now as an adult to talk to who has been through everything to say life was worth living, instead of only being able to talk to my unhelpful parents who made everything worse. It's hard. If we want that we need to provide better care to everyone. Like universal basic income and healthcare. And provide workers with more options. Because growing up I experienced a parent who went to college and went into 90,000$+ debt to only be worked to death. Working so much with disabled adults when she got home she mentally was so drained so didn't have anything left for us kids. Her life was eat, sleep, work repeat. There was no leisure. She worked over full time and got paid shit. She was making under 20,000$ a year for working with disabled adults with a college education. We need to overhaul society so parents can actually have the energy to parent. Because alot of people are on that boat where a day taken off to be with family would equal not being able to pay rent. And it's getting worse and worse. Majority of people are in survival mode. We need to help people and give enough aid that people can switch to thrive mode. America has no excuses. We could do all these programs that actually help people but we don't. Because the corporations, CEOs and 0.01% like us being in survival mode because if we had the time to sit and think we'd start realizing how messed up everything is.

Lol it’s the ‘my prize was a ball of tape” being put up against ‘I was sent lingerie to model so adults could exploit that’ as an example of grooming for me
@liesbeneathoureyes Жыл бұрын
I feel like Johnny and Adam’s stories are polar opposites because so much of what Johnny complained about Josh NOT doing is something Colleen ACTUALLY did to Adam. Colleen sent Adam lingerie and Kory manipulated him into “modeling” the lingerie online (overly intimate and personal with sexual connotations) … meanwhile Johnny complains that Josh “only” gave him a ball of duct tape (implying that was a disappointingly impersonal gift). Colleen emotionally relied on Adam, overshared intimate details of her life, used him as a confidante - meanwhile Johnny is disappointed that Josh barely ever talked to him. Colleen specifically invited Adam to her shows and encouraged him to come with the promise of one-on-one hangouts and personal interactions, meanwhile Johnny invited HIMSELF to Josh’s shows and travelled long distance to see him, then got mad that Josh didn’t personally come and pick him up from hours away?? Colleen purposely tried to exclude Adam’s parents from their interactions, pointing out that Adam’s parents would likely find their relationship inappropriate and seemed disappointed that Adam’s parents accompanied him when they were supposed to meet up, whereas Josh seems to have been careful to include Johnny’s parents as much as possible and most of the “intimate” interactions Johnny has described actually involves his parents being present the whole time. Adam is uncomfortable that, as a CHILD (during his preteen and teenage years) he was manipulated into an extremely emotionally intimate friendship with a 30+ year old woman who sexualised him and discussed inappropriate topics with him and other kids, meanwhile exploiting him for free labour. Johnny by contrast seems overall angry that he never got the intimate connection he actually WANTED with Josh as Josh appears to have set far better boundaries regarding the appropriateness of their interactions and always held Johnny at arms length (and was also an older teenager/in his 20s at the time). No wonder Johnny is so jealous of Adam.

I don’t think Josh giving his number to Johnny was inappropriate at all. Especially given the context that Johnny was continuously telling this man he was depressed and somewhat suicidal. Josh giving Johnny his number came off to me as wanting to help a young man with his mental health, which later on turned into Johnny becoming obsessed and Josh pulling back.
@sashagemini7623 Жыл бұрын
I agree with you. Let's say Josh was truly trying to help him, and Josh actually helped him through whatever he was going through. That Johnny didn't become borderline obsessive to the point where Josh had to keep him at an arms distance and then dropped off the internet after going through an intense public divorce. If none of that happened, we wouldn't be having this conversation. Mentor and groomer are two very different things. I just feel so bad for Josh. Should internet celebrities think twice about engaging with minors on the internet? Absolutely. But I think Josh saw the signs long before things got really weird. Johnny has seemed like a clout chaser the whole time but nobody wanted to say anything to negate the fact he was “a victim” but the way he has approached every interview he has done has seemed showboaty to me. Like when he was on the pod and kept talking over everyone. The others that spoke seemed like they were actually traumatized and just wanted to get their stories out there meanwhile his approach was very gossipy and catty. He didn’t seem upset at all in comparison to the others whose stories weren’t nearly as bad as his according to him. This is the hard part about these situations and why actual victims have to go into situations expecting people to be against them because the public or onlookers have a hard time believing anyone because of the wolves in sheep’s clothing like Johnny. It’s such a shame people like him exist.

I wish Olivia would have touched on the point that swoop made about how allegedly johny was doing a lot of this for clout and to grow his internet presence. He told Adam that trishas pictures "would do well on Twitter" and he kept heavily implying that he wanted Josh to apologize to him on his youtube channel that has a way bigger audience even though Josh was no longer active on yt and had made many apologies private and public on Twitter. Not only that but if Josh made an apology video Johnny could "cash in" by making a reaction video to it. Those were just two examples on swoops video.

I'm not very surprised with the Johnney stuff at all. When H3 did the initial interview before, Johnney really rubbed me the wrong way. I felt like the grooming allegations the other kids had towards the members of the Ballinger clan were pretty specific and severe (you know bc all of them regarded grooming kids sexually) but Johnney's just seemed like he was talking about how his boss's friend was kinda shitty to him on a few occasions. It seemed odd to me that he was there when the other kid's allegations were more severe, yet he took over the whole conversation. He seemed very excited to talk a lot, like he liked the attention or something, but the other kids really didn't give off that vibe. I might have even commented under that video that his allegations didn't really seem bad or related in comparison to the other kids and that he took over the convo despite this, or maybe I didn't comment because you never really want to discredit someone who views themselves as a victim because as an outside person you don't know the whole story, but I remember at least having these feelings watching the original H3 interview.

Same! I even went back to that episode to see if I found a comment, because I remember feeling it so strongly and sort of wondering if others had gotten the same vibe but also obviously not wanting to in any way invalidate a victims experience. johnny didn't have to claim a grooming narrative. he could have said he developed a crush as a teen and felt unseen by the person he idolized, which harbored resentment against joshua in him. it's normal, especially for a young queer person, to cling to a kind person even if they're only given an ounce of attention by them. navigating love and attention as a queer youth is difficult enough and johnny never needed to spin it into a whole traumatic story in order for people to feel for him. you don't have to be a victim of something serious to get sympathy for a hurting heart. johnny completely dillutes the implications that the word "grooming" holds. i don't really understand what "non-sexual" grooming would mean, because the definition is used to describe the tactics adult use to lead up to sexual exploitation of a child. i think johnny feels betrayed by joshua, because he had developed a crush on him and gave all interactions much higher significance than they had, and associated that betrayl with his understanding of what grooming is. idk he seems really selfish and like he believes that anything that happened to him is worse than anything that has happened to other people. it's almost as if he wants to have gone through henious things just to justify his hatred for joshua- without having any idea what heinous things actually feel like. god this guy really sucks and is definitely using the colleen thing to make it about himself and get revenge for unrequited love. grooming is serious and i really hope that society's newfound acceptance for the term doesn't lose it's significance due to overuse. we've seen that happen with words like "gaslighting," "panic attack," and "traumatic," and it would be sad to see if all of the words survivors use to articulate their experience end up lost.

I feel like I have to say since it came up, as a teacher, it is NEVER appropriate to be messaging kids privately! We have emails monitored by tech admins, or other school approved learning platforms to use for communicating digitally. I also only ever call parents by using *67 to block my cell number since I don't have a school phone. The closest thing to texting that I allow is using the remind app, which acts like a proxy to mask both parties private numbers, and have only ever used it for last minute reminders or changes to info, or quick questions only related to school activities. It's also a must to have every personal social media set to private. Any teacher doing anything more than that really needs to re-think the risks.

I have so many thoughts on Josh’s reaction/replies. This seems even more innocuous than Ethan saw it as to me. It genuinely feels like Josh was trying to be kind to a big fan but he quite clearly wasn’t interested in talking to him. It seemed to be like he just didn’t want to be mean or let him down. Awful decision making for sure - I would not have made those decisions for sure and in the context of Colleen it seems even worse. But on its own, I truly just think Josh was trying to be kind to a fan without making him feel unappreciated.

Johnny has given me WEIRD ass vibes since DAY 1. The way he latched onto Adam and tried to ride his coattails (if you can even call them that) is absolutely INSANE. I will be the first to admit that I have never been the hugest fan of Adam...but this makes me look at Adam in a different light. I've never said anything unkind about him, but I think I believe Adam a little bit more after all of this mess. This is ridiculous.
@pipergenkin1688 Жыл бұрын
i agree... Adam has always given me weird vibes because he seems to want to go beyond exposing Colleen... unlike others its like he wants to capitalize off his interactions and experiences to build a youtube by dragging Colleen (whether its justified or not). the thing about Johnny is that I also totally get that weird vibe. like Ethan said he hogged a lot of the screen time when they brought on the other alleged victims of colleen, like he kinda wanted extra attention and sympathy for his situation

Ok, thank you, someone said it. Everyone gets so up in arms that no one believed Adam at the beginning of all this. I didn't. Because of how sensationalist He Is about Everything. The difference between Johnny/Josh and Colleen/Adam is that Josh just gave the account to Johnny and Johnny would tweet from it if he wanted to because he had the user and pw. Josh never held this account over his head as part of a job offer like Colleen did. Josh would not oversee posts made in that account while Colleen would.

@@Lucaz99 I really wish they had included this context in their powerpoint, or at least the part where Swoop broke down the differences between the work Adam and Johnny were doing for the twitter accounts. Bc you're right, there are important differences there. At the very least, if they want to stay informed and make further commentary on this situation, I do hope they actually watch Swoop's video in full, as all this ep is really showing to me is that only getting broken up pieces of information is making things confusing for them when it didn't need to be. Swoop carefully crafted her video in the way that she did for a reason, and all this skipping around is thoroughly interrupting the clear, steady stream of information that the viewer is supposed to be getting from this video.
