Tbh, Disney could've taken his death further, ropes in the gallows had to be a specific length to break the neck of the criminal; too short, the victim would have choked to death; too long, and the victim's head would've been ripped off. So they were justified for ripping his head off. Though yes I do agree, one of the darkest deaths for sure, the shadow of the lifeless corpse dangling is a scene you don't forget.

Clayton: 1. Isn't blowing buckshot at someone attemped murder instead of aggravated assault? Yzma: 1. Her plan on turning the emperor into an animal would be conspiracy to commit mutilation 2. That secret lab of her is definitly not OSHA and should be closed Cruella: 1. Besides reckless driving, she would also be charged with causing an accident and leaving the scene of an accident Ringmaster 1. To use elephants you need a permission. Him abusing animals, I doubt he has one... 2. That circustent doesn't look safe to me. Give him some OSHA violations and a circus shutdown.

Best guess as to wea is the Victorian or Edwardian eras and during that time, if you saw something I the jungles you killed it before it killed YOU. Clayton technically also committed mutiny. I also think that multiple counts of false imprisonment (just the humans in this case) like that would get anyone life. A bit of a fan theory though. In the original books, Clayton was the cousin of John Clayton III (Tarzan himself) and inherited John Clayton II’s (Lord Graystoke’s) fortune after he was presumed dead with his wife. Also in the original book, Lord Graystoke and his wife were mourned in Africa by pirates. Per the wiki confirming that the Disney version of Tarzan is still the son of Lord Graystoke, and Frozen II (and some light genetic analysis, as well as a difference in dates by several decades) completely discrediting a previous theory, it’s plausible to say that Tarzan and Clayton are still cousins in this adaptation. (A real missed opportunity for an empire strikes back reference if you ask me). Of course in the book Clayton was just a regular guy, and roughly the same age as Tarzan. In the Disney version, he’s noticeably older than Tarzan, possibly in his 40s. This would mean he’s more likely around the age of Lord Graystoke Sr. than Tarzan. Furthermore, Tarzan’s parents were not marooned, but almost died in a burning ship before drifting ashore in Africa. That looks like a potential attack from another ship to me. If pirates were the cause in the books, why not in the movie. Furthermore we see Clayton working with Pirates much later in the movie. The theory; Clayton was cut off from the Graystoke family fortune by his cousin John Clayton II. He fell into a life of crime, to the point of teaming up with pirates long before the events of the movie. When he found out that Lord Graystoke and his wife were on a voyage at sea, he knew it was the perfect time to strike, leading his men to attack the ship so Lord Graystoke would be considered dead and Clayton himself would inherit all the family fortune. So he was probably already fairly wealthy by the time of the movie. Fortunately he didn’t discover Tarzan’s heritage, since he would have done away with him much faster. If this theory is true Clayton would receive the death penalty for murder for fraudulent purposes
