"if i fire everyone that shows up late we'd have no employees" and if you hired employees who show up on time you wouldnt have to fire anyone
@Chrisdead273 жыл бұрын
That is very true and very critical to any where place of employment
@RS-fy9hb3 жыл бұрын
@@Chrisdead27 Yes, but that's not really any type of argument. You don't just fire employees who are late, unless they actually can't make that change in a day or two. If it continues for more than what is acceptable, you definitely fire them, and hire other people, but if the employees are late because you allowed them to do whatever the hell, then don't expect them to make a change without reason to do so. Losing a job should be plenty motivation to want to show up on time, and do a proper job, but the employees need to know that they can actually lose their job, if they don't change.
@RS-fy9hb3 жыл бұрын
The owner himself allowed the employees to do so, why wouldn't they continue? The owner needs to pull himself together and actually exert some authority, and warn them about theor behavior, and then also follow through on it. Shit like this is never only on the employees. Sure they allowed themselves to get lazy, but why wouldn't you when you still get the same amount of money, despite not even putting in half the work you usually should have done.

Lots of people in the comments who clearly haven't worked long shifts in restaurants. I have definitely worked places where this is prohibited, but they're in the minority and they're generally not great places to work. If you work dinner in a typical restaurant, you're on the floor from like 4:30-10 or 11, without a break. It's not uncommon to order something to eat during a slowdown, and most decent restaurants offer discounted or comped food for staff. This was clearly for television drama more than anything else.

I’ve had several long shifts where I’ve had to let my food go cold. Can’t blame the guy for taking a couple bites. It seems to me they were just trying to prove a point and he was the easy target. Also regarding time theft, server wages are typically much lower than minimum wage. Federal server minimum wage is $2.13 an hour. Even if he took 20mins to eat his whole meal, it would cost the restaurant 71 cents. Not to say it isn’t time theft, but is that really worth firing somebody where a warning would do?
@brucewayne24552 жыл бұрын
@@Michegrey sounds like you haven't worked as a server or any kitchen position, if so, probably not a place where it gets busy. I've worked at a Country Club -- busy as hell, we eat during our shifts (I worked in the kitchen) cuz no time for the 30 min break we're legally supposed to get, waiters would eat at there stations when they didn't have tables (still on the clock). Same thing when I worked in another high-end restaurant.
@brendant192 жыл бұрын
@@fayezentner619 It's common to eat on the clock in restaurants. You generally work during all meal times, so eventually you have to eat. It's not remotely uncommon to have discounted or comped food on shift at some point. Some kitchens even do more formal prepared meals for staff and eat together, on the clock, before or after opening or closing. This varies place to place, but having worked ten years in restaurants from greasy spoons to fine dining, feeding your staff who work through meal times is generally a good, cheap way to keep people happy and retain staff in an industry where keeping staff long term is incredibly difficult.

I feel like Mario fell flat of the "landmark firing" Jon wanted. He was given a brief second chance until the owner was put on the spot and all the other employees said if it were them he'd be fired. That doesn't quite send the message that you're in charge and everyone is going to be held accountable, which was the point to begin with.

I'd have fired him and his girlfriend. If she's in a relationship with him, as she obviously is, she can skim off the top for him, she's a loose end, so fire them both to make an example, theft of time or money will NOT be tolerated.

@@flyboy6392 THAT is a landmark firing. Like I said, this owner dropped the ball when he initially offered to give one more chance. The whole point was to make somebody's head roll that nobody saw coming... as a former restaurant manager, I can attest that it works wonders, most of the time... especially when taking over a different store and employees that haven't met you yet. (I know, not the case here.) My point was, I'm here because the way thing were being done were wrong and not working, so I have to change things. Personally, I liked to get one cook, one server, and one hostess gone within 48 operating hours (3 days). 7 times out of 10, the one with the most "seniority" was the one to go. They get a mentality that "I've been here longest, my poop don't stink." They rarely are willing to change what needs to be changed. Stuck in their ways. Sending those ones packing sends a clear message that I'm in charge now, which was needed because the person before me generally wasn't. It also has a way of weeding out the bad seeds too. They generally would be so loyal to the person being fired, that they'd just quit. Now you bring in fresh faces and attitudes, and the staff becomes energized. I say most of the time... and based on my experiences. I know... its not always the case though

Bruh the last owner pissed me off! This employee LITERALLY STOLE MONEY FROM YOU and you were gonna give him a second chance at 17:12. If it wasn’t for Jon Taffer coming in last minute, that employee would still be there. Then wanna act all big and bad after firing him, like he wasn’t gonna give another chance. No wonder his employees don’t respect him. He’s a pushover!

That poor kid He was finished with everything and ate a couple chips Before he clocked out And gets FIRED??? That’s BULLSHIT I’ve worked so hard as server and was starved After I was finished Yes I was dying for a couple chips And then clocked out That’s NOT OK!! Poor kid I could tell he was a good kid

I disagree. "Starved". There is a reason people get lunch breaks. If he worked an 8hr shift and didn't eat on his lunch break or his other breaks then that's his fault. No reason to be eating when you aren't supposed to, because you're not being paid to eat and waste time. He did seem like a good kid he just wasn't educated properly in how to behave at the workplace. Many people are like that nowadays.

In order for a business to be successful you must treat your employees as your employees, not as your friends. Mr.Taffer knows what he is doing.

14:40 There is ALWAYS something to do in a bar or restaurant. If you can’t find something, ask a manager or a fellow worker what needs to be done or if you can help with anything and you will get a list of items that need attending. You can’t complain about getting fired for not being able to “find” something to do when you didn’t even try to look in the first place.
@ZoraTheberge2 жыл бұрын
Right. If you’re bored, do a lap for empty cups or sweep. Or wipe down empty tables. And if you’re frequently without a task for so long that you can sit down and order a drink, you probably aren’t necessary for the bar to function. You’re a paid customer at that point.

Geez, Jon talked about Nickeling and Diming before on a much later season. He seriously asked a guy to get fired because he ate something while going to clock out?! THAT'S Nickeling and Diming, a costumer would think absolutely nothing of it, and Jon blew up that situation.
@ayeme92463 жыл бұрын
That had to of been staged. A server can't get fired for that.
