Two anecdotes. 1.) I’ve been in many blue collar jobs where my coworkers said that the government should provide everyone with a livable wage and good healthcare. Same people mere minutes later also say that political correctness forces them to vote Republican. Grievance politics is totally real and the GOP knows it. 2.) In same blue collar jobs the employees all thought “right-to-work” meant they had protections from being fired and vehemently insisted they had job security because of right-to-work laws. Misinformation and mislabeling an idea works on a large portion of the population.

It all starts with the Republicans breaking down our public education system. When you're party is pushing for teaching creation science and whitewashed history this is what happens. Underfunding the schools and pushing for government to give people money to send them to private schools insures you can indoctrinate children and teach them what to think, not how to think. If you can get people to believe that the magic man in the sky spoke the universe into existence in six days, you can get them to swallow any amount of bulls*t. I started turning left after I took macro economics in college and realized everything the Republican Party tells you about the economy is wrong

That's because he doesn't "love the uneducated". Like most American aristocracy, he only loves THE FACT they're uneducated. And their desire is to keep them that way. Republican opposition to things like subsidized/free higher education, well-funded public schools, and student debt relief isn't really about the money. It's because the fewer people who actually learn how to spot the flaws in the system, the better it is for those Republicans. Their political success relies on that ignorance.

I was a UAW member & shop steward for a Dana plant in Texas, before GM closed our customer factory in Shreveport to move production of Colorados offshore. I used to hear the same thing from our members... "Why don't we give money to Republicans?" My answer was always the same.. "Because Republicans do not represent us in government." My father was a Steelworkers member & shop steward for a furnace and air conditioning company in Ohio. He worked there for 35 years before they shut his factory down.. His pension fund was robbed by the company that bought them, and they stole his severance pay on his last day of work. He was literally one of the last 2 workers out the door when the factory closed after missing less than 10 days of work in that entire 35 years.. and they stole his pension and severance. He died of cancer because he couldn't afford the medications.. (his "insurance" required him to pay full price for the meds up front and he would be reimbursed 2/3 of that cost on a monthly basis.. his meds were $9000/month) This was allowed because Republicans back the for-profit health care industry because they give HUGE bucks to Republicans to keep the status quo. He would probably still be alive if we had a system like in Canada, Germany, the UK, and every other civilized nation.

It's neither a true democracy or a republic when the government as a whole answers to their donors(bribes)and not for their voters -- and the many institutions functionally are no different from businesses(Justice System, Military Industrial Complex, etc.). The fact the government passes legislation that mainly serves the interest of their wealthy donors and are allowed to have insider trading means that the US is actually a plutocratic oligarchy, as the wealthy few controls the US government's functions to serve their interests(mainly of making more money, connections, and controlling the masses). This may be why the US government obsesses over ''the economy'', and not maintaining dignity, not for welfare of the many, not egalitarian values, not "the spirit of democracy", the US government works for money.

In More Perfect Union's video about Biden visiting the picket line they interviewed a union worker who literally said "It's nice he's on our side! I voted for Obama, then for Trump in 2016 and 2020 and in 2024 I'm going to vote Republican again" and I just. He's the exact person who would watch this and go "That sounds like the party I want representing me!" 10/10 for doing this in one take

some of them literally freaking do say stuff like this. "Vice signaling" is in vogue on the right. Thats part of how someone so openly crappy like trump can thrive. Thats why you have media figures on the right openly calling for stuff like saying some people shouldnt be allowed to vote. Or people like justpealrythings saying men are better than women etc etc. Having openly hateful and ignorant views and being upfront and unabashed about it is totally in style on the right.

Re: the trickle down crap. The economy does NOT work like water in air, but like air in water. Sooner or later all the wealth ends up at the top! That is how it got there in the first place. Give [a ton of dough] to the rich, and that money mostly stays at the top. Give [a ton of dough] to the poorest parts of society, and it will percolate to the top, making many, many people a little richer for a while.

I wish this wasn't true, but I fear it is. Once I visited relatives who live in a small, conservative, mid-Western town, and while my kid was getting a haircut, and we were making small talk in the salon, I mistakenly mentioned that I was visiting from Philly. The demeanor in the place changed. The women slowly started ignoring me, so I sat down and played on phone, as one of them began loudly saying things about their identities like, "I'm a farmer's daughter" out of the blue in a manner that was clearly for my benefit. It was bizarre, and made them seem super insecure. Which is weird, cause I'm a friggin' underpaid art teacher and probably live at the same level as them economically. But I live in the big city, so I guess they assume I look down on them. But I don't. I more often fear people like them, which is exactly why I left Ohio (where I grew up) and am raising my kids in Philly.

Sadly people are susceptible to emotional framing and allergic to research on political topics no matter where they are in the world. What shocks me is that there was never a second Brexit vote at any point after everyone woke up the morning after and Googled "what is the EU". Some Republicans are legitimately fine , if somewhat selfish, people who just know *nothing* about politics and shut their brains right off as soon as they hear something like "America FIRST!" That sounds cool, our country first, who would disagree with that?! And then of course as history shows us, a decade later submit that they knew nothing about concentration camps and that sounds like fake news.
