Well I mean Mario characters are mostly the same in real life too. Luigi is almost identical to Mario just taller, and Princess Daisy is very similar to Princess Peach. Well we have dooplis who probably fits the role of someone who would be named silhouette. Unless you want an actual evil Mario who is just an evil Mario with the same appearance but darker and not dooplis or bowser Jr. in disguise. But honestly The whole rival (potentially friend or enemy) who has the same powers as the MC and fights them a lot isn't really a bad idea and could be done better than how sonic did it (to be fair even sonic did it better than sunshine did) like bayonetta and Jean in the bayonetta games or probably other examples. If there was a Mario villain who had similar abilities to Mario but wasn't just Mario wearing black or another plumber or mr L, that would make for a good boss as long as it's not like how shadow Mario was done in sunshine.
