Two things; 1. The events of the paperclip episode were staged by the landlord, and said to consist entirely of paid actors and practical effects. While he did have the intent to commit them, none of the crimes Alan performed that day were real, besides perhaps attacking the fish. 2. In the alien episode, Pim and Charlie were kidnapped, taken outside earthly jurisdiction, and forced to do drugs under threat of "imprisonment"(not being returned home) aboard the ship.

Yeah Alan was given the paperclips,it became his property, it was infact stolen. Idk the law surrounding Bigfoot claiming the stolen paperclips. As per the Note left by the landlord, I believe it counts as an invitation and therefore Alan entering the Landlord's room regardless if it was a different building, Alan still had the Landlord's consent to enter the room. And it can't be considered thief if again Alan was the owner of the paperclips that the Landlord took.

It's important to remember that definitions of crimes are not solid, they're very fluid which is the whole reason why courts and lawyers and judges exist. So stuff like Alan spraying a guy who's not leaving the front of his workplace with a hose probably wouldn't land you 2 years in prison.

I'd say the definitions of the crimes are pretty solid, it's the sentencing that is fluid. Lawyers may negotiate plea deals to lower the charges against the defendant if they admit wrongdoing and judges might give a lighter sentence depending on the circumstances of the crime. On the other hand, a judge could decide to make an example out of Alan and upgrade spraying a homeless man to aggravated assault and give him much more time in prison.

Edit: For anyone saying he was cool with it before he called him out, this was the order of events: Charlie calls Alan a crazy character, and pulls him closer. Alan noms on charlies nose. Charlie pushes him away. Alan tries to nom, but Charlie dodges him. The creature on tv escapes.

If I was a lawyer for the smiling friends: Mr. Boss Tampering with a corpse and desecration of a corpse should be one charge, and was split between a group, and there is no proof aside from witness testimony that he wasn't peer pressured into it. Mr. Boss holding a firearm and threatening Grim should be counted as a criminal threat and could be counted as a misdemeanor considering Grim was threatening genocide against a group, and can be argued as protection, maybe shaving off a year or two off the sentence. His other threat only functions under witness testimony, and due to his mental illness, means the threat was forced onto him by his 'other half', meaning this was merely a short episode that can only be truly reported as a workplace harassment. Alan [Alan likely pre-paid for the fries or they were given free, as they are never shown ordering fries.]- A commenter pointed out Charlie ordered the fries, they are all charged with dine-and-dash rightfully. Alan's spraying can be counted as defending himself, as he was trespassing based on all he know, self-defense has no charge. Alan's kicking and murder of the woman is third degree as she had just showed up, and if she didn't die it is assault, as his argument is he was startled, and he pleads no intent to kill. Thievery of the boat was for pursuit, and due to him being attacked during this, I'd argue he should have his sentence lowered, as it's plausible he stole it in defense of himself, as there is no testimony against him. It's arguable for the B&E that there is no witness testimony for what he did as the only witness is dead, and he could've mistaken the apartment for his. Killing the Boss' wife could be argued as being pressured under a threat. Charlie Charlie was under the influence while offering sleeping pills, and it ended up only being just that, an offer. Charlie's crimes are so minor he will only come off with fines, negotiation could get them lowered. Pim Arguably the property he broke into appeared abandoned, the stolen boat seeming to be the same way as well, and he stole it while being pursued, so we can say he was threatened and his thievery was to save himself. Pim taking from Mip can be dismissed under the circumstances, where Pim was going insane and the stolen item in question was an explosive. The destruction of the satellite was under the influence of some sort of alien drug, and he was coerced. Pim's murder can be counted as a third-degree felony under Pennsylvanian law.
