Hey guys, Lisa here! If you didn’t already know, I am super frikin excited to share that I’m writing a book! To be the FIRST to get sneak peeks about my book and other exclusive content go to: www.radicalcon... and be sure to sign up for my newsletter.
Check out Evy’s Book: Becoming Bulletproof here: amzn.to/3vOnPAQ
Resilience is one of the most important things you can do for your mental health and well-being. Being resilient is how single mothers go on to raise incredible children. Being resilient is how generations that lived through war survive to tell the story and continue their traditions. The problem is that you may not feel resilient, and you may not have taken inventory lately to uncover how much adversity you’ve overcome. Adversity is the catalyst for change and the training agent we all need to bounce back from struggles with a stronger mind.
In part 4 of this series, Evy and Lisa are breaking down all the ways adversity and resilience make you the powerful badass woman that you are. This is how you can break the patterns that have been holding you back, become more resilient and reclaim power over your life. It’s time to answer the call and become more responsible to yourself.
Tips To Become Mentally Resilient
1. Be the Leader in Your Own Life
2. Taking Ownership Makes You More Powerful
3. Don’t Weaponize the Other Person’s Insecurities
Evy’s Nightly Journal Challenge:
1. Write 3 things you are grateful for
2. Write 3 things you want to do tomorrow
3. Write 3 things you could have done better today
Resilient Terms:
● Adversity: Difficult or misfortune
● Progressive Overload: Gradual increase weight, frequency, or reps to get stronger
● Hypertrophy: Increase and growth of muscle cells achieved through lifting weights
● Acceptance: Taking stance of non-judgemental awareness
● Ego: A person’s sense of self-esteem or self-importance
● Disruptor: A person or thing that interrupts an event, activity or process
SHOW NOTES:
Adversity | How adversity creates mental resilience and is better to embrace [0:44]
Shaped by Adversity | Evy and Lisa share ways they’ve pushed through adversity [6:55]
The Reframe | Remove the negative, find ways to make it work, & give yourself grace [17:01]
Take Ownership | Taking ownership makes you feel stronger & requires you to adapt [19:37]
Solution Mindset | Evy on being adaptable by shifting from problem narrative to solution [23:03]
Own It | How Lisa kicked herself into high gear and took ownership over her health [40:45]
Disruptors | 3 ways to interrupt feeling emotional: distance, time, and environment [41:42]
Lisa vs. Evy | It’s a battle of disruptors, whose disruptors take the win? What are yours? [57:26]
QUOTES:
“When you face adversity over a consistent period of time you know how to manage it, how to withstand it, it makes you stronger, it makes you more resilient” Evy Poumpouras [1:20]
“I take ownership of how I act and how I show up in the world.” Lisa Bilyeu [20:40]
“You are the recipient of whatever life is doing to you. You are affected, you are not affecting the world. The world is only affecting you.” Evy Poumpouras [22:07]
“If it was my fault then it means that I have the power to do something about it. If it’s someone else’s fault, then I’m waiting for someone else to fix me.” Lisa Bilyeu [29:19]
“It’s not okay to be vicious and mean to people, and it takes a lot of work to control that. It’s easy to lash out and rip somebody and shred them. It is not easy to control it.” Evy Poumpouras [52:27]
“If you engage with every fool you deal with you become as predictable as that fool. Stop responding to everything.” Evy Poumpouras [56:04]

I don't know if I am the only one but the biggest thing I notice when they speak with each other is that they never interrupt each other. I find it so amazing that they just give each other room to speak while really listening. I feel like I can't finish a sentence without being interrupted or being talked over. I love their dynamic.

And since Greeks led the way and the world in Psychology Philosophy,, the Medical field, Mathematics ETC and have taught us all how to walk on our 2 legs.( if it wasn't for the Greeks we would be walking on our 4's( that's our hands and feet for the ones that cant picture this image quick enough.) I love the friendship between these two. I think Evy was allowed the space to cry and be vulnerable on camera because she has her friend sitting across from her. And when Lisa squatted down to hold Evy’s hand and be there for her, that was so sweet and empathic. These two are such a beautiful powerhouse team, I love watching their videos. ♥️♥️♥️

Growing up in a unhealthy environment, submissive, blamed, punishment, etc…then stepping into the same relationship type and job type….I had no idea that women could be strong and set boundaries. No idea that cruelty was not a normal life. Finding out that others live in civility and with respect was astonishing. Please continue your work and being explicit in dissecting situations and options for change. Thank you

I understand you. I also grew up in a submissive environment. Never had role models. I am also in a submissive work environment, a shitty job with lots of blackmailing and also studying with shitty teachers and colleagues. Had tons of toxic relationships. But i just can´t be evil, it´s not in my nature. I can´t play their games. It takes alot from me to be evil. This just gets me very fustrated and disappointed with mankind. This planet is really tough.

Omg i love Evy! Having survived a horrific rape ordeal at the hands of my martial arts instructor the very person meant to teach how to protect against such monsters, it took fifteen years until I’d be ready to report this to police. Since I have though and since he was arrested and investigated, steps have now been taken to protect other victims because of my coming forward and police said I should feel very proud for being brave enough to speak up. I always thought I wouldn’t be believed and would be seen as a trouble maker but that just simply was not true. What I had to say was relevant and it did still matter even 15 years later. If anyone is struggling with the trauma of such a situation know that it’s perfectly safe for you to come forward whenever you feel ready and you will be believed - never give up!

I became homeless this year and I found your video in my feed I think it might be a friend of mine that passed away giving me a sign. A week ago my car stalled and I had to run 2 miles to use a phone because my cell phone died and the home owner called for help and an officer came out to help and he asked if I had anyone and I said no the only person I had that was there for me before was no longer here and he said but you still have them you can't hear them giving advice like before but they're there and to talk to him so I have been and I broke down crying asking him for help and I see your video. The loved ones we lose aren't really gone they're still with us being a light and still helping guide us giving us little signs. And I'm sorry for your loss, your father sounds like a great man to raise a daughter as strong as you and thanks for the video I definitely needed to see it💜

Hang around people who see adversity as a challenge so you too, can handle it better vs. staying stuck. Lastly I would love to hang out with you two and learn as much as possible since I am going through an incredibly hard time and rehab from injury after a trauma where someone pushed me into a mosh pit at a concert and I got trampled. Here is a thought: since we tend to write a narrative in our mind when something happens it all depends on the kind of narrative we write. We are the authors. One person writes "why this is happening to me?" and another person "I own my response". They say that all the stress and anger happens between our ears... 😎 Reacting angry, emotionally or feeling hurt is our own decision. Don't give another person that power over yourself, they can't make you feel any way, YOU decide how you want to feel about a situation or a person. Own your decision and be unstoppable!

I have always been fearless, the fixer and now understand that the majority live in denial. Widowed at 29 with two small sons, I never had a choice but to push, come blister or bleed. The word No should be enough. My son just told me that we live in a world where we can no longer speak the truth. I am not a victim, I am stronger and more grateful. I just want peace. We shouldn’t have to fight for something so simple, yet still constantly being pushed at 63. I can only control myself. I see people living just to keep peace. I see that doesn’t work. I always ask myself what role did I play, I have a strong mindset/rules for myself, my trigger is the abuse of others. I just bought your book and I am grateful for women like you. Thank you.

I love the analogy of weightlifting to mental resilience because im doing both. I changed my life by going to therapy, changing eating habits, exercising, weight lifting, and spiritual growth. The biggest thing I've done is study mental resilience. When you are in a state of flux and get hit by suffering which happened to me during my transformation, you can create more suffering by negative rumination run rampant. I'm not over the mountain yet, but near the top. I'm determined to go the distance. The biggest thing was seeing my value and feeling my value. "If the mind and heart are torn, there is no peace." For me, I have to say positive affirmations and mantras daily to rid my mind of those negative thoughts, until I can wake up and be at peace.
@JDfaith2024
@JDfaith2024 Ай бұрын
Agree mental adversity is strength and resilience built over time but don’t neglect the grieving process. And by doing that you will appreciate and understand your strength even more when you get to the other side. It’s very important to allow yourself to feel, cry, mourn and even get pissed off so you can heal. If you’re constantly bucking up/pushing through pain and set backs and not grieving, it is detrimental and will cause major issues. Of course dependent on the circumstance and situation.

I often feel powerless. I’m a single female Entrepreneur in a male driven industry. I often get crushed gaslighted and made to feel unsupported and not seen. I watch women of impact every time I have a problem or issue in life. And unstoppable has been right on every time. Finding power in myself is so important. Not down talking myself. And giving my self acceptance when bad things happen. Thank you both...I hope to join the super women at the round table and share stories of failure and success.

A couple weeks ago after I discovered and watched your interview together on this channel, I have subscribed to "Women of Impact" and listened to more videos, found and listened to other interviews of Evy Poumpouras, and read/listened to her book "Becoming Bulletproof". Thank you so much for your incredibly inspiring and empowering content and messages. I hope Evy gives herself lots of space to cry. Crying is healing. It’s a fact, I always feel better after a cry. Keeping that bottled in will not help with your emotional and mental state. I know in her childhood and line of work she needed and needs to be tough but…it’s okay to cry. Never stop that from happening, it’s a part of loving yourself. Feeling sad emotions is not a bad thing, it’s a part of life! Also love these two. Always have such wisdom to preach, helps me a lot.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE! Wow! As someone who grew up “inner-city adjacent”, meaning not quite inner city but definitely not suburbia… I can attest to both the benefits and disadvantages to this idea. Being somewhat coddled but not sheltered enough to protect me to the harms of society has cultivated a unique perspective where I am able to appreciate Real Life happening, but yet enough per-view to see the light at the end of the tunnel enough to WANT to persevere and push through. The disadvantages and discouragement that exists in poverty ridden environments should not be glamourized, and most would never just choose this existence for themselves or their kids. Likewise the protective/controllable environment of a safer household upbringing can be curated to such an extent that galvanizes Opportunities as means to build and innovate. Thanks for this interview dialogue Lisa! 👏🏾

I’m right there with you. Losing a parent is devastating. I barely get out of bed since my mom was murdered. Staff at Sturdy Hospital beat her forcing her into a wheelchair when she didn’t want an MRI. She was only 77yrs old. She died from catastrophic injuries and two brain bleeds. The investigation is on going but I understand that sadness. When I lost my dad in 2013 I was in therapy for over a year until someone referred me to a psychic medium Pam Padula out of Warwick Rhode Island. She does zoom and FaceTime sessions as well. I healed in one hour with her, that a year of therapy couldn’t heal. I got to talk with my dad and the messages were so healing. Sadly the way my mom died and it being only 4 months, it’s too soon. I pray you find healing 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

The hardest person to break up with is the one you've created in your delusional, fantasy-making mind... Avoidants have PHDs in 'sabotaging relationships'! 1. Know your value!!! (Do NOT doubt yourself.) 2. Take yourself and your worth seriously. You need to BE A QUEEN to be treated like one. 3. Don’t give easy access to anyone, at any time. Access to your energy should be expensive. 4. Do NOT only express your boundaries. YOU MUST show them. 5. Always be ready to walk away. 6. Show that you are focused on actions not on words. 7. Have a healthy degree of skepticism. 8. You must be willing to say NO and you must be willing to lose the man, if needed. 9. Never EVER chase a man! A truly worthy woman, (who knows her worth) does not EVER chase a man. Giving the same energy that you're getting is key and if you don't like that energy then move on! NOW! It can be hard but that's when you need to choose yourself over the damn illusion/fantasy. A man who loves a woman will not ignore her, ever, period. So... If he ignores me I will step back and he will lose me. Simple. Simple. Non-dramatic and uncomplicated. I don’t, under any circumstance: play these childish-abusive-controlling mind games. I will only be with a man who values and appreciates me, and treats me as the Queen, I AM. (Daughter of the Most Hight; King of kings!) Because I am a beautiful and kind and divine and sexy and wise and intelligent and magical woman: who knows my worth. Period. Also, We create each moment. This moment contains, through my focus, both positive and negative... I can put my attention on what I lack, what I don't have, what traumas I do have etc... And, I can put my attention on the calm moment that I am in, NOW, the food I just ate, and the fact that my body is satisfied, the shelter I do have... (You get my idea!) Both are here... And now. For the sake of fairness, I will allow myself to cry my pains, in the moment if/when they come/arise, AND also acknowledge the beauty I still have in my life NOW. Pain? Yes. Suffering? Indeed. And, also: wonderous magical divine beauty. Blessings to you!

I totally agree with you. I had a very difficult childhood. I had to stand on my own two feet from the moment I was born. I experienced both trauma and adversity. However, I was loved and was never allowed to feel sorry for myself. It was this combination of being loved, but knowing no one was there to pick me up, that gave me resilience. I saw people around me making very bad decisions and people dying very prematurely or being very sick as a result of those decisions and ways of interacting. It messed me up for a long time but I kept going and kept trying to understand why people were doing what they were doing, and I got answers. I got the final answer in my 60s and it was the final piece of the puzzle. After that my life changed definitively and it lifted my depression. I never stopped trying and I never gave up. I got there. Everything I went through made me stronger and it taught me to never be swayed by the group. It was all worth it. Don't give up.and don't give in to temporary pleasure to numb the pain - sex money drugs alcohol. They just drag you down or slowly kill you.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE My favourite takeaway from this episode is the part of taking ownership of your own happiness. To not seek approval from others and take action for yourself. You can't wait for other people to make your life better, and if you want something to change you have to do it yourself. Dont let your happiness and the things you want in life be dependent on other people. I really love the episodes with Lisa and Evy. I loved how Lisa sat down and held Evy's hand when she started crying. It shows how real and considerate Lisa is as a person. I have learned so much from your videos. I loved this quote so much: "I take ownership of how I act and how I show up in the world." It inspired me today to work hard on my goals and keep going.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE! My key take away from this video is that life is not happening to you or me, it is responding to us. I play a role and have an impact in the situations, people and events that either do or do not take place in my life. Take ownership, be mentally resistant and learn to adapt. We are in control of our own reactions and emotions and that is what makes you powerful! I journaled today that I want to surround myself with successful people and those who are actively in the process of not only bettering themselves but bringing up the people around them - I then came across this video! Thank you Evy & Lisa

I AM UNSTOPPABLE. Love these two, they have such amazing insight and inspiration. I heard myself in Evy' & Lisa's comments (21:44) about taking ownership of our actions vs. being the victim. I'm healing from some childhood trauma & narcissistic relationships. It clicked that yes, these can be Traumatic experiences, but once you take responsibility to Understand the Trauma then you can convert it to Adversity. Then you can move on by using the skills you've learned or get help to solve the adversity. It sounds simplistic, but once I moved my Trauma to Adversity I wasn't a victim anymore. I was a work in progress!

I get so much strength every time I watch these two together. They are an inspiration to not only females, but to men, young and old. I fwd these to my daughter who has been through so much adversity, with her health, my cancer and her father's and my divorce and to see how resilient she is for her age, is not only a proud moment for me; it's mind blowing to see how mentally tough she is. I saw her mental fortitude show itself in Taekwondo and again as life started to unfold in unpleasant situations and circumstances. She handles it like a BOSS and to say I'm so proud of her, would be an understatement. She's gentle and kind, yet, a total BADASS when life throws her curveballs. At the end of the day, she doesn't let adversity harden her heart and that's a feat in itself. She's tiny in size, but she has the mental strength of a Lioness/Lion. From her kindergarten shots fwd, I didn't coddle her and I would tell her that sometimes life is going to hurt, but we get through it. You survived those shots, just like you will any uncomfortable situation you come up against in the future. Our go to motto, after any kind of adversity was, "But did we die... NO!" And we'd hug tell each other we loved each other and move on. At the end of each day, we'd say at least one thing we were grateful for bc if we could find one positive out of a crappy situation, than all was not lost. She's my Angel and I never knew UNCONDITIONAL LOVE, until I was blessed, the day I became her mother. Thank you ladies.

❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ ❤️ Takeaways: •Adversity WILL Always Happen. Don’t try to avoid it. Don’t stay in sorrow. Cope effectively & MOVE forward. •Surround yourself with people who see adversity as a challenge and not something designed to “push you down”. •When adversity hits, dont compjain about it. •Have a problem, FIND a solution. •ZERO pity party. 🙌🏼🔥🔥❤️ •Theres a difference between CHRONIC adversity and adversity that we cannot control. Chronic - you put yourself in a negative position. Adversity (outside our control)- conditions we can’t control. Example: The way we were raised, WHERE we grew up, natural disasters, etc. •Don’t cry or stay in sadness because of the difficulties you have gone through, use the hardships to improve yourself and HELP others. •Adversity helps create mental resilience. •Don’t stay in the trauma, push forward. I am u n s t o p p a b l e. 🙏🏼❤️

I AM UNSTOPPABLE! My takeaways from this video are: to embrace adversity and see it as an opportunity to grow and keep going. To take ownership and responsibility in my life. I also loved how authentic the conversation was, it made me see its okay to be human and show your emotion. I have so much respect for Evy and Lisa!

Evy and Lisa are such a power pair. Love their wisdom, mission, and lovely friendship. There's always something to learn from these two inspirational women every time they have something to say. Thank you so much from someone who had no strong moral female figure growing up.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE 🦋 *Give yourself some grace--you WILL get through this *Don't give your power away I embrace and appreciate your ladies authenticity. I've discovered I am a codependent in a narcissist abusive (30 yr) marriage. I have finally started the divorce process after leaving twice in the last 2 1/2 years. Its people like you ladies along with a good therapist and supportive family & friends that Ive found my strength to realize I matter. Thank you for doing what you do!

Evy- I want to say I too lost my Dad to cancer. I cried the pain was so deep. However, a wise old woman told me: "God knows the exact moment not a minute sooner or a minute later that we are born. And God knows the exact moment not a minute sooner or a minute later that we go back to him." It's God's Divine time. May these words help you find peace like they did for me in spirit sister I feel your heart and I wish you the best always.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE. After a second watch I was able to see how well you two compliment each other from experiences. We need differences in this world. I love it. It was wonderful to hear more on Time, Distance & Environment as solutions to impact clarity. I’ve been practicing this for the whole year of 2021, I’ve only gotten better at it. I’m understand I’m on track to contribution to others, while also be there 100% for myself. Thank you both.

I AM UNSTOPPABLE I really appreciated hearing that waiting for someone to fix you or make things great is NOT going to fix anything. It is simply wasting time. Pushing forward, facing adversary and pushing through awkwardness or fear is what develops us and makes us strong. Greatness is cultivated, not handed to you.
