Several years ago I went through a phase losing weight through doing the insanity videos I was literally doing 2 workouts a day on 1,100 calories and hit a major plateau that I could not get out of, then someone suggested I start lifting weights I got a macro calculator bumped my calories up to 2,000, started lifting 4 days a week with no cardio and lost all kinds of weight. I was so amazed literally everything you're saying happened to me by accident I was completely surprised at how it work by the time I was done I was eating 2300 calories and working out 3 times a week and feeling wonderful. The things you guys preach or exactly one hundred percent correct all the time. Thank you so much for what you do

For me it’s opposite! I’m on an almost 7 month plateau from lifting weights, started eating less and Doing more cardio now im loosing weight. It’s so frustrating. I lost 100 pounds in less than 9 months though But i want to drop at least 30 pounds more, good luck to you!

@@rudypena615 one flip of the coin is to always listen to your body, doing pictures at the morning after I went to the toilet motivated me to improve constantly and to listen to my body. I started running again just 1 time a week for 30 minutes, the other time I am doing 3 Full Body Workouts per week and tweaked little things which helped me tremendous for example: Parking a little further away from anything - work/shopping/visiting someone I walk to work from my car for like 30 minutes a day five times a week this is literally a little cardio session and bet on my words: you´re way faster on the way back because you wanna go home haha. The other thing is, I looked at my portion size of my meals and ate for like 3 people, now I eat a bunch more of veggies drinking two protein shakes a day as a snack between my three meals and I´m growing back to the body I used to have when I was like 24. (32 at the moment) I am loving It! Tweak everything you can, even and maybe most important, your sleep! I wake up to noice so easily that I sleep with ohropax and since then I am sleeping like a rock for 7-9 hours a day. All the best, we´re all gonna make It!

02:14 - Sal is right about increasing calories to lose weight! I've been low carb'ish for a while trying to lose fat, and it was working but I had to keep cutting to get lower and lower, but this affected my mood, my workouts and just feeling tired. I decided to increase by carbs, and calories have only gone up by about 200. I feel better, workouts are better. My weight went up initially (that was the hard bit) and is now slowly going down and carbs make up 35-40% of my macros, with my protein arond 30%. Feeling stronger as well!

Mindpump, for me, is the most helpful fitness channel. I love how they encourage us to have this peaceful relationship with food and our body. I've lost about 15kg and feel SO MUCH better. I was on a cardio focused routine everyday and eating 1000 calories. I was always so worried about my weight, checking 2-3 times a day. I cannot thank you enough for changing my life. This is the best advice for anyone wanting to get in shape. It is encouraging whether you’re overweight or skinny to start feeling and seeing your ability to lift more weight easier and that will jumpstart your fitness journey towards your goals. Lift safe but strengthen your body and build muscle because muscle will burn more than fat so you will be replacing that fat with muscle like you said in the beginning so the scale may not move much and you will need more carbs to fuel those harder workouts. I’ve been contemplating getting back into personal training but have yet to break some mental block. I love health and fitness and am always trying to learn more about it but I’m working a full time job and am afraid of risking the transition. I’ve trained before in the past but I was a young wildling battling addiction and lost my job so that may have something to do with the fear aspect but have since gotten my life together with 8 years clean, partially thanks to health and fitness, and I feel I would really enjoy helping people reach their goals as well.

My anecdote with muscle building and weight loss: about 18 months ago I decided I wanted to start bodybuilding. I had been a regular weight relatively healthy dude for most my life (mostly just a healthy weight not so much into fitness). So I bought some weights (Used Olympic set to start and then added dumbbells later) and went to work on 5x5 for about the first 6-7 months. In that time I decided to pay no attention to diet. I had used dieting over the years to stay at a healthy weight but the only thing I decided to do was make sure I was getting 150-200g of protein. Calories be damned! In those first 6-7 months I packed on about 35lbs of fat (mostly) and muscle. I got real strong in comparison to where I started but as the scale was pushing 210lbs (im 5 foot 9inches) I started to realize I had really let myself go when it came to fat gain, despite the strength gains. So I turned it around. I left 5x5 for a more standard split routine focusing on hypertrophy training and begin tracking calories. I started at 2000 and lost about 15lbs right way over 3-4 weeks. It slowed down a bit but I kept losing. I decided to periodically increase calories. I’m now back down to around 185lbs and I eat about 2600 calories per day and I’m still losing weight (slowly) on my way down to 180lbs. I think the amazing part is that I’m glad I beefed up to 210lbs and focused just on strength and muscle building. I think that gave me that runway you guys are talking about to go ahead and cut weight after. I’m eating fat more calories per day right now and still losing about half a pound a week then I ever could have back before my weight and strength gains. There was a time where I would eat about 1500-1800 calories a day before I started weight lifting just to maintain weight. Love how much food I can eat and continue to build muscle and not get fat. Building a muscular body really does seem to be the key to long term fat burning.

Almost all weight loss plateaus are explained by 1) inaccurate estimates/measures of CI & CO and 2) most of the "metabolic adaptation" is a reduction in NEAT/SPA (whereas decline in BMR/RMR, TEF, & EAT are marginal and more easily accounted for). The reason more "conservative" energy deficits work better in the long-term is it attenuates all of the psycho-physiological effects of weight loss such that someone is less likely to give up. Why did the Biggest Losers often gain it all back? They didn't learn the skills or mindset to change their lifestyles, they were externally motivated by a temporary fantasy land with a carrot at the end of the stick, both of which were removed when they went home.

You have to pump your mind for this, it is 💯 correct and very difficult to understand but I’ve just gone through it and am now eating more and building muscle, it’s still possible to lose the weight first as long as you are doing some weight training as well then when you eventually reach your plateau you can start to put on the muscle for real but it takes longer this way.
