Huge demand for a sneaker like that, but Nike isn't meeting that demand. So, if someone is set on getting that shoe, they have two options. They can buy it from a reseller at a massively increased price, or they can get something else as you said. Reps are that something else for a lot of people who just like the shoe. If Nike won't sell them the shoe, then they won't be buying the Nike shoe.

My biggest preference for fakes is simply because of how cheaper they are. Even with this fact, I still rarely even buy fake shoes and jerseys having only done it in a total of 6 times. It was always the thought of having that look I wanted with the shoes which make me appreciate having fakes instead for the benefit of my allowance or my parents if they're the ones who buy it. *edit*: I only focus on the thought of why they bought these fakes for me, and any gift they give me is never worthless. I don't even ask my parents to buy me anything anymore, I just do my best in school to make them happy so that I make sure the money they spent for my wants are paid off by my hard work. Even if the sneaker they bought for me is fake, the love and thoughtfulness they put into spending that money to buy me makes it worth more than any legit sneaker worth over a billion dollars. Plus, I actually prefer window shopping more than actual shopping, to the point where I try to learn prices of objects and calculate an imaginary budget. When I said "preference for fakes", its cause I like window shopping through this big ass market selling them nearby. Since I live pretty far from where those big shopping malls and outlets can be found, I like spending my time looking at all the fakes at that market and counting how much each would cost. So sue me, but I have a soft spots for fakes.

I honestly do agree, I don't see a reason for buying reps at all. If I don't score the shoe I like on release then I just get another pair or try again next time. There are also other brands than Jordan and Yeezy out there, just saying. If you get a fake shoe then you are most certainly trying to associate yourself with that 'brand', there is no way around that. The only real downsides are that if you don't know exactly what you're after, the appeal of cheap designer/fashionable clothes promotes buying a lot of clothes you don't need, aren't versatile, and will leave you pigeonholed in the typical r/fashionreps flashy style - very easy since those flashy but one note pieces are what's produced the most.
