I really want to know the lore behind modern J&A. Did the in-universe versions of Jake and Amir also leave collegehumor to start headgum together? Are they supposed to be at CH still? Are they working at headgum but not the owners? I need context.

I think it'd be most interesting if Jake and Amir both end up working at Headgum in-universe, but aren't necessarily the owners/creators. Makes space for Geoff and Riley to be in these. Oh my god I want to see Ricky Van Veen appear somewhere in this series that'd be crazy. Bring some CH alum!

Agreed! I'm really happy they're doing it again, but it feels a bit lacking in the character department. There used to be tiny amounts of drama between them and other coworkers, and in the 2008-2010 days you actually got a bit invested in their characters. They're still funny, but they focus a lot more on being topical and coming up with witty puns (which might just be what the younger audience wants. I just want them to be successful so if they keep going this route I respect it).

What I'm saying is I'm only referring to this video in particular. Yea this is the "mainstream" narrative, that's the fucking point. I can get the mainstream from CNN or Colbert so what's the point of random new J&A episode if they're not gonna do something edgy or different? And yea it's topical but they are against pushing the "mainstream" Democratic party political narrative. Listen to "the science" even though the vaccine hasn't been approved for regular use by the FDA yet and there's tons of doctors skeptical about the safety of the new mRNA technology including the guy who invented it but no no you're just a crazy conspiracy theorist if you don't want to take 5 doses of it and give it to your kids. The technology has literally only existed for a year so there hasn't been nearly enough time to study the long term health effects of the new Covid vaccines but "the science" is supposedly settles and you have to just trust it or we'll put you in Covid camps like in Australia.

A criticism I intend constructively: When Jake and Amir was in the Collegehumor office, it helped to establish the premise that Jake was stuck with amir because they just happened to be seated next to each other at the job. In this more intimate setting, the sense that Jake is just trying to go about his business and get through another day at the office is lost. Here, it looks like they chose to work together. I think Jake is a much stronger straight man character in that "big office" setting, though I admit that it may be a challenge to reproduce it. The simplest thing I can think of would be to have them in a cubicle or something enclosed like that, and edit in some office chatter that suggests a larger environment outside of the cubicle. That's not to shit on the episode as a whole though; I quite liked it except for that, and I'll always watch new episodes. I especially liked Jake interrupting Amir's fart

Maybe you can think of it like this- Jake and Amir have gone into business together and now he has no choice but to stay in it. Logic never made sense in this series anyway. Amir should have been fired long time ago from Collegehumor but didn't. Jake could have quit there too but didn't. Jake needs Amir because while he himself is an insecure and pathetic person, he becomes relatively normal around Amir. That's why even though he acts like he hates being around Amir, he doesn't take active actions to distance himself from Amir.
