For once I'm actually rooting for the "Cape Busters" that are an obligation in the superhero stories to appear! And for once actually do their job which is to get these crazy self righteous Supers under control or unable to hurt normal decent Folk. Usual I'm against the Cape Buster's but damn is this one of the few world where I will be rooting for them to win and get the Arrogant "Heroes" under control

When the MCU became a super successful franchise, you had people who never liked Superheroes come out of the woodwork as if this was their time to shine. That's like a crackhead jumping out of the bushes when his neighbor gets engaged. Crackhead: No no no. Make it about me and the crack. Neighbor: What the fuhk? Fiancee: I'm calling the police. Crackhead: No, fuhk you. He's a white male!

You know what is sad? I like the idea. This could be a fallen hero storyline, where the kids with good intentions want to make things better but accidentally become dictators. Maybe one of the teens suddenly realizes what they are doing and wants to stop it. Leaving the former friends estranged.
@frankwest5388
@frankwest5388 5 жыл бұрын
After more thinking I realized that doing this with teenagers would be even better than I realized at first. Teens always think that they know how everything works, even if they don’t and also have to pride to double down in harsh ways if someone tells them that they are wrong. This almost writes itself.

You know, in an ordinary superhero comic, the Pro-Gun rally would be used as a plot that brings each character's personality to the forefront. Like some of them would stick back and try to keep themselves occupied elsewhere (since it's kind of a legal gathering), while the more hot-headed or deeply-affected members (especially if their siblings or best friends were harmed during the shooting) would try to disrupt the rally, forcing the more level-headed members to try and restrain them. Cue the world watching in shock as the two groups fight amongst themselves, with the ultimate outcome and some of the reactions providing plot threads for further down the line.

Yes! One of my favorite things about Spiderman Homecoming was how utterly believable and relatable they made The Vulture and how it was presented as only logical that normal people, suddenly finding themselves in a chaotic world of gods returned from myth and aliens literally invading New York, would want to acquire weapons/tech that would that would give them a modicum of protection and self-defense capabilities, even if it meant getting those weapons on the black market.

Mark Waid has always kind of been crazy and violent since he first entered the industry. When he worked at Fantagraphics decades ago, he would throw fits in the office and there is a well documented event where he threw a telephone (a landline unit) at comics creator Joe Sacco. When he first came on the internet, he was an angry person who eventually always got into fights. Around 2000 there is the famous story of him punching holes in the office wall with his fists and then breaking his own toys. What changed is that within the last ten years, he has discovered that the one place his violent and anti-social behavior is accepted is in politics. That he can engage in extreme behavior with no consequences if he gives that behavior a political motive.

Once I noticed there's a protest going on in the background of the cover decided that the best course of action if I do find this book in a store is to ignore it or maybe read the back cover to see if there's some pretentious meme worthy text.

Now that you mention it would have been interesting to see at least 1 of them empathize with the more reasonable gun owners like just because they have the power doesn't mean they are a danger to everyone else and then they see there friends abusing said power and maybe them realizing how nuanced things can be instead of just being right or wrong they could figure out there's no real right answer or blanket solution

In a sane comic , these guys would be the villains , & actual heroes would show up to stop them. Comics better start holding its arms out , before the net gets thrown over it.

What really gets me is the premise of this story: they hate guns due to a school shooting. The people react by arming themselves and the "heroes" are already armed with SUPER POWERS. Change one thing, the shooters were kids that had super powers... what is the story then (oh wait, Marvel already ran that story to death with all the X-titles and Civil War). We all know that super powered kids would be arrested and evaluate if they were a threat to anyone. But now that it's guns we want to get rid of all the guns so JUST the criminals have them. Brilliant!

It would be funny if down the line someone bought up this universe and characters kept it all the same, but added a rational superhero to the mix. And just like the loony left in real life and joke villains in cartoons these SJW "superheroes" come up with wackier plans as they fail over and over again to bring about their utopia.

The way to play it out in a comic is to show the real-world consequences of using terrorism. No matter how powerful you are, the police will come after you and keep getting tougher and stronger until they take you down. And the longer people go doing terrorism, the less political the acts become. They gradually degenerate into criminals. They do that because being on the run takes money and the way to get money is crime. You do extortion. You do robberies. You do kidnappings.

These "heroes" are no different then that team Superman went up against (The Elites). Characters with superpowers that call themselves heroes, but in reality they're nothing but arrogant brats that use their powers whenever it benefits them and think that they can do whatever they want. At least in that movie, they were called out as the villains that they were.

Hell when you get your gun there are 5 places you can't take your gun, 1. A SCHOOL, 2. A place of worship, 3. A Bank, 4. Any Government building, 5. Anywhere where there is a sign prohibiting them. Only exceptions are 1. You are security or a cop protecting the premises. 2. You have permission from the employer of the establishment. 3. A law is changed. Also Background checks for exist and are very very Thorough. Hell even if you were to ban guns, they would still exist, I point to Prohibition, and the failed war on Drugs as evidence.

Nah man, this time it will be different, just look at this other country that banned guns but is not the same as America and still has other serious problems that taking guns away won't help! Totally would just erase guns from existence if we just banned them and no one will ever want to kill people again.

I have to say: the Plato's Republic comment had me puzzled. I've had to read that in both english and latin, and admittedly it's been a while since I last read it but I cant think of anything in his book that would remotely support or justify this crap comic. 🤔 so... to what are you referring?

What would be real ironic is if somehow they managed to find a way to replicate these teens' superpowers with their consent and then one person unintentionally kills a bunch of innocents with their new powers. Then the government wants to step in and strip people of these abilities the same as they want to do with guns.

I realize superhero names are getting harder to come up with as everyone makes more superheroes. I've struggled with names while seeing names I came up with in middle school being used, even the good ones. But Wave, Viral, Paper Doll, and Mashup? That's what you came up with? Really? And if the Twitter @ actually is supposed to be part of their superhero names that's even dumber. And these are the pros in superhero comics?
