In 1994 a movie came out called "Airheads," about a trio of would-be rockers who became hostage takers at their local radio station in order to get their demo tape played on air. Near the end of the film, after a highly publicized police standoff and hostage negotiation, they manage to get the record deal they always wanted. But Chazz, the leader of the band, realizes the big shot record label agent gave them the contract without even listening to their demo tape. The airheaded rockers became infamous. But their image in the public eye was all the agent cared about, not their merit as a rock band. So Chazz wiped his ass with the record contract. These three guys were dumb enough to hold up a radio station with WATER GUNS, and even THEY were self aware enough to recognize when they were being taken advantage of by greedy corporate hounds.

It's what happens when someone continually fails upwards. It goes to their head, and they suddenly think that they're succeeding because of TALENT, rather than because of their gender identity. A normal person who tried to get into the business and wrote a coupled of failed, cancelled projects wouldn't get more work. Yet they keep giving it to this dingus because otherwise they'd be seen as "transphobic", and being branded that, apparently, is worse than publishing failure after failure.

The difference between this Eisner award and the scam is that in the scam the restaurant knows the award is meaningless since they know the food is good. A good writer doesn't need an award to know if they are good - the people who read their books will let them know. The customer who buys doesn't go for lies. The indie-comic world still has good people in it, Cyber Frog managed to succeed, and manga is still loved for the way it is and people are fighting for it. These people, they're going to lose, HARD, all because they're behaving like the Dark Age Catholic Church: -bending and twisting the original narrative to their own liking so that they'll have control -censoring/threatening anyone that gets in their way (regardless of race/gender/sexuality) -making poor decisions that will eventually lead to an immense amount injuries and losses of life. They will be ruined all because they cared about was worthless wealth, fleeting fame, and prostrated power. If these people come after you, you have the ability to fight back. They know if you fight back it's over for them. All you need to do is remain calm, collect yourself, and let them rage away so you can use their words against them. If they try to get you to speak out against them, speak in a calm tone, and don't refer to profanities. It will drive them to insanity that they can't bring you down to their level. They will try to divulge the argument to race/gender/etc, but simply tell them that those things are not in question, it is their actions that are in question.

So if you have a problem teacher, unless they screw up tabloid newspaper badly, you cant get rid of them. The solution is to over inflate their ego, encourage them to apply for different schools and give a really good reference. And they'll usually go from school to school at the rate of one every year or two. The scary thing is that these teachers might end up in senior leadership teams... without ever realising all the praise they received was gently pushing them out of the door.

Look just because you get nominated for an Eisner doesn't mean jack. If this person existed decades ago it wouldn't even make the cut. The fact is the "RIGHT" people are the gatekeepers of those areas now. So, all they have to do is spin the dial on some bad book and it gets an award. Technically it's "affirmative action" for bad writing. Oh and for the record, the institution I work for IS and (still is) highly affiliated with Will Eisner. So all these Eisner nominated books, WE BUY whether students read them or not. So when those books come across my desk I already know why they were purchased. Because 1) It's Eisner nominated, 2) person was a student and 3) we're an institution that already has the "right politics". I'm literally surrounded by people that think those books are good "but"... We have the "Pervert" and a co-worker read it and even though she holds the "right politics" even she said it was "okay, but still horrible overall..." and she didn't say anymore because even she doesn't want to be crucified for saying the wrong thing.

Think about how many people have been nominated for awards and never won, oh that’s right, you can’t think about those people, because no one does.

Quantity of pages doesn't mean a thing if you never acknowledge any criticism to improve your craft. This is someone who has made 1500+ pre-school level finger paintings thinking they are comparable to van Gogh. Must have never heard the term pity nomination. It's when they nominate someone they know zero chance at winning for reasons other than the quality of their work.

Oh, _two_ whole Eisners, huh? That would actually have meant something back when those awards carried a certain level of prestige to them. Nowadays, you get an Eisner for being “Stunning and Brave,” instead of writing a story that actually matters. Bragging about winning an Eisner is like bragging that you got a Diet Coke instead of a regular with your extra-large Big Mac meal. You got a pile of garbage, but at least you spared a thought about your weight to get a crappier version of a soft drink. Hurray for you.

I question whether I should just shelve my hopes, dreams and aspirations... I question whether I actually have _even a fraction_ of a "lick" of talent; whether I'm yet again indulging in pointless wishful thinking...but then... ...I hear about a certain someone who seems to be the absolute epitome of Dunning-Krueger Effect (( seamlessly combined with acute narcissism, and seemingly a predilection for violence, especially blunt-force-trauma to the head of anyone who *isn't* transgender )), and I think to myself:: Self?....You have _Every Right_ to Pursue the Happiness[ _rather, the _*_*Fulfillment_* ] you yearn for... _And since you _*_haven't_*_ defrauded

I hate being treated differently as others for being transgender. I am a human being, I want to be treated as such, not worse than a normal person, nor better. In fact, taking close attention to and treating someone as different for being trans, even if it is through being better to them, is, in a sense, transphobic. All we wish for, at least most of us, is to be normalized and blend in with normal people. Treating us differently is to hyperfocus on the aspects we wish for people to overlook.

Just conjecture, but Diamond has a minimal order number in order to list the books. They will cut some slack for issue 1. But the cutoff seems to be somewhere between 1200-2000 issues. If the book drops well into 3 figures, they stop listing it.
@Jim-Tuner5 жыл бұрын
Its not so much the minimum order. Its that they release "top 500" information on sales. The cutoff (#500) varies alot month to month. But its recently been in the 600-700 range.

Vagrant Queen 5 and 6 do exist as physical comics. 6 was listed in previews in October for delivery to shops for release on Jan 30, 2019. But you are correct that neither issue was listed in Comichron or ICv2. I think Diamond only releases data for the "top 500" titles which means its sold close to nothing or else the physical copies people have came through some other channel. The final issue went for the sale at the same time as the TPB. So there was actually a dis-incentive to sell it from a money point of view.
