Compression test, Vacuum leaks, and timing. Some older industrial use engines came with harden valve seats, but if your old tractor didn't....the use of unleaded gas will have a negative effect on the seating of the valves over time. Otherwise, like my Grandma use to say....."You can take Grandpa to the gym all you want, he'll get better....but he ain't never gonna be 21 again". :D

Add just a dap of grease to the ends of your spark plug wires. It helps stop corrosion and condensation from building in the cap or on the plugs. That noise could just be a valve adjustment. Those old tractors were built to burn leaded gas (to stop knocking and valve chatter) and to last a lifetime. You should be able to get an additive at the auto parts store.

since you got new spark plug wires i hope you got the ones for electronic ignition, as they need to be replaced in a conversion as well. as well reolace the coil to ann electronic ignision coil, when you buy the conversion kit all this comes with it, if you dont have the right coil it will blow it.. been there,

as a old marine engine mechanic retired. so many things can lead you to the problem. if available, I would do a compression test and the condition of all 4 plugs you removed. it may be wise to give the carb a cleaning since these old tractors sit for long periods of time. not exactly sure what you were hearing or feeling...... love your vids and I'm new.
@farmertylerranch43995 жыл бұрын
Thanks Marshall and welcome! Yes a compression test is something I’ve been wanting to do. Carb was fully rebuilt about a month ago, I’m leaning towards a valve issue? We’ll see

Old Iron always need attention, I'm sure you looked/shook the distributor shaft end. The bush/bear gets warn and can wobble may be part of the reason for the marks in the cap and can add to an idle issue. Just an arm chair opinion..LOL I think one of your neighbors was burning the rice fields a couple of days ago....smoke was heavy for a while up here at the 350' level....LOL Grandpa would proud keep her running!!

good day. nice movie again. I love to watch your videos. an idea for you : if you are going to place an electric ignition then also look for a cheap remote-controlled cutoff. these are also used in children's ATVs to remotely switch off the ignition so that the engine stops. for when you walk behind the tractor and you want to stop it, for example if a cow would push you down or you get lost or trip over something and you cannot reach the ignition key immediately. a safety thing say. Kind regards Hollandduck from the Netherlands (source of translations: Google translate)
