@sneezyferret64825 ай бұрын
@@johncoldwell340 Aye, but I've never ever known timing chains that needed replacing after every 50k miles. Anything can fail. That's not my point. This only has 28k on the clock. And TCs usually give plenty of warning, but by then you're up in the 200k - 300k mile range. This is a critically important part of the engine, and it is failing, or starting to after only a few 10's of thousands of miles. And just the sheer amount of work required to change one! Wow unbelievable ...I'd rate this about as complicated as dropping the transmsission on my van. That was a bear of a job. It's ok if you're a mech working on these...nice little earner but for the home mechanic... And not having a keyed crankshaft, yeah that is just plain stupid requiring even more work and specialist tools. Ford should immediately begin working on a timing chain conversion kit for these lumps. Peugeot/Stellantis have a similar design and they are having the same issues. A rubber band dipping into hot engine oil contaminated with diesel or gas, what could possibly go wrong.

NO they are easy to do just a bit fiddly as you are working through holes in side of engine TAKE the sump off and clean out AND the strainer Then change oil every 5000 miles after - as it is the acid in the oil that breaks down the rubber Even doing the above I would change belt every 25-30,000 or 4 years ! There are 2 timing kits depending on year PRE 2018 - Type this number into e bay 404846577282 AFTER 2018 Type this number into e bay 404844411663 Hunt about you can get the tools cheap now

Having a car is like being married to a bad wife. While things can run well once in a while, in the end, you get screwed in more ways than one and it ends up badly.When we did timing chain replacement back in the 60s and 70s on mainly V-8s, it was maybe a 2 hour job and we didn't have all the electric hand tools then. The twerps that design these things should be MADE to repair them under the threat of severe physical harm if they don't do it well and in a very reasonable amount of time. When you see repairs like this, your only thought is that you somehow hope these car makers go out of business, and the politicians that mandate too much from engine makers get sent to prison for life. I'd sleep a lot better. Amsterdam is looking better and better every time a car repair comes up. Bicycles are looking really good as the years go by. If I were to order a new car (never happen) I would special order one WITH a chain instead of that belt from Hell. If they wouldn't do it, no sale. The way car companies are going, I'm surprised they aren't selling cars with square wheels and making you pay extra for round.

@stevenc52274 ай бұрын
Exactly that's why they used the belts and made changing it as hard as they could, they don't want 10 plus year old cars still on the road, they want you to buy a new one, but why would you if you had a bad experience in the first place, they will lose their customer base, when people decide they want a more reliable car that doesn't cost £1200 to change a timing belt at 30k miles.
@stevewaghorn20295 ай бұрын
I don't believe its the wrong oil causing the belts to fail, I think its that the belt is in the wrong place, should be on the outside of the engine!.
