Another great video. The attention to detail is sublime. I took my Transit Custom to Mike for it's wet belt replacement after seeing his video on those as the quality of work was second to none and the price was very competitive.

Love the commentary, love the systematic way you disassemble and reassemble stuff plus your intricate knowledge of these wretched Fords. You have obviously done a few and if i still had mine (i ditched it before 25K when i realised the wet belt issue) i would definitely got you to do it as i have no Milwaukee tools.😅 An absolute top job. 👏👏👏

Great video thanks...that mileage is exactly why the belt looks like that...the car has only been doing 416 miles per month average. That is way too little...Me Ecoboost I getting it's wet belt replaced and it's on 106k miles now. Engines are designed to move, work and operate. Leave them standing or drive them to the corner store and back and you muck up everything.

@sneezyferret64824 ай бұрын
@@johncoldwell340 Aye, but I've never ever known timing chains that needed replacing after every 50k miles. Anything can fail. That's not my point. This only has 28k on the clock. And TCs usually give plenty of warning, but by then you're up in the 200k - 300k mile range. This is a critically important part of the engine, and it is failing, or starting to after only a few 10's of thousands of miles. And just the sheer amount of work required to change one! Wow unbelievable ...I'd rate this about as complicated as dropping the transmsission on my van. That was a bear of a job. It's ok if you're a mech working on these...nice little earner but for the home mechanic... And not having a keyed crankshaft, yeah that is just plain stupid requiring even more work and specialist tools. Ford should immediately begin working on a timing chain conversion kit for these lumps. Peugeot/Stellantis have a similar design and they are having the same issues. A rubber band dipping into hot engine oil contaminated with diesel or gas, what could possibly go wrong.

NO they are easy to do just a bit fiddly as you are working through holes in side of engine TAKE the sump off and clean out AND the strainer Then change oil every 5000 miles after - as it is the acid in the oil that breaks down the rubber Even doing the above I would change belt every 25-30,000 or 4 years ! There are 2 timing kits depending on year PRE 2018 - Type this number into e bay 404846577282 AFTER 2018 Type this number into e bay 404844411663 Hunt about you can get the tools cheap now

Exactly that's why they used the belts and made changing it as hard as they could, they don't want 10 plus year old cars still on the road, they want you to buy a new one, but why would you if you had a bad experience in the first place, they will lose their customer base, when people decide they want a more reliable car that doesn't cost £1200 to change a timing belt at 30k miles.
