I Bought A 192k Mile Audi B7 RS4...

Anxious, nervous, excited, all the emotions! I recently won a 192k mile RS4 off of Cars and Bids, and took delivery of it last week. Very excited for the videos coming up, and very quickly falling in love with this car!

I've been watching since the GTI, was hooked on the S4 content and my heart broke when you totalled it. I kid you not, I fkn gasped when I saw RS4 in the opening! Your S4 is the reason I bought my Audi!

I'm sure someone in the comments already said it but the first RS car we received was the C5 RS6. The RS4 was the first RS manual we got stateside though! Awesome car, I owned an Imola RS4 for a number of years and it was an awesome car for sure.

Oh, and that third gear grind is a common issue with those transmissions. At least the 6 speeds that came in the B6 and B7 A4,S4,RS4 at higher mileages. My B6 A4 with stage 3+ power has been doing that for the last 30k it has 222,240k miles now. It’s a ‘indicator’ that the car has been loved a whole lot lol. Expect second gear to be ready to pop out come cold winters too. Go to JHM get yourself a rebuild kit and have a shop rebuild it synchronizers, detent balls and may as well get stiffer shifter bushings as well. If you want to skip just fully depress the clutch like down to the floor and that grid should be less pronounced. This issue in my opinion is caused by previous owner shifting aggressively and not fully clutching. It’s manageable though.

Welcome to the RS community! I have a B8.5 RS5 and we know it's not the fastest or quickest, but the NA V8 has so much soul and character. Have owned previous Audis and have driven much faster cars. The RS5 is my favorite. Also loved the RS4!

picked up an 07 with 92k on it. It needed an oil cooler replacement, but other than that, the car is solid. Love driving it when I can get it from my wife. The car has made her a much more confident driver, who just told me she now prefers the sounds of the motor over the radio. Only took her 28 years and an RS4

I would look into re aligning the shifter linkage. Very common on Audi manual transmissions to become misaligned if you slam gears hard. It won't cost anything and might be worth looking into.

Had the same issue on mine. Very cheap fix if it is shift linkage related. Sometimes the bushings wear out and need to be replaced. Causes the same exact grind on 5th and 6th gear 9n mine. I would check that kzbin.info/www/bejne/foHMhod5gLx9gLM

Congrats! Great value car! My money is on a worn synchro ring for 3rd/4th gear. Quite common on the B6/7 gearboxes! I changed my synchro ring on my B6 avant, but the 1st/2nd gear ring. It did the same as yours, snatched when going into gear, then it got worse and would 'lock' in 2nd gear if you came to a stop in 2nd. After a while, mine totally lost 2nd gear with no drive as the teeth on the synchro ring just wore/broke away. Fixed it myself in the garage at home, cost me £100 with parts from Audi. You have to be comfortable stripping boxes down though! Then it's getting the preload shim washers right when rebuilding. It's doable DIY though! Good luck and great car! I'm sticking with my 3.0T S5 coupe, for now.

Great video!!! Out of the heaps of B7 RS4 content that I have viewed, this video was quality, maybe it was the Clarkson intro - Well Done and Congrats. Can not believe how clean that car is, I have a Silver version with a lot less mileage about 90,000 (and it has lived it's life in the Aussie heat) so I am well aware of how well they stand up to time and the elements at least I know that mine should still look the goods after another 100k. Look forward to more on this wonderful piece of automotive art.

I'm so excited for you brother. There is a special place in my heart for the b7 RS4. Back in 2009, I bought a B6 S4 I had been lusting after since it was released. The owner of my local shop had bought an rs4 and supercharged it. He would have it parked up front in the showroom. I just remember looking at the front end and wheel arches and just being awestruck. Few cars have ever made me feel that way exotics included. Enjoy it brother I'm looking forward to the new content. Oh and fire intro ✌

New Zealand July 2021, I found the right RS4, a 2006 4 dr daytona grey, with all the RS features. Near Mint. I had a paddle shift 2014 S6 wagon...yawn...month after purchase S6 I took a mates Rs4 for a whip, I sold S6 and waited since... RS4 with the 6speed manual, it the purest form of driving. Im restoring the entire car back to showroom quality. Good luck with your RS4 venture.

I used to have one! with 64k miles! yep, IT was RED- what I really loved about the car? V8 sound! I slapped lowering springs on, wheels, exhaust *miltek* the car sounded really good! did carbon cleanup Sometimes I wish I Wish i kept it. I think I need to add this car again to my stable, in Black! High mileage really is just a reminder that there could be a handful of wear and tear work that needs to be done,otherwise of well maintained,it behaves a like a new car, that grinding is the whole clutch system that needs to be changed, previous owners weren't pushing that clutch fully, during high speed throttle and its a sign its been abused here and there and a bloody damn expensive fix, could easily be looking $1000 job..
