I've always had a complex about my flexibility... so many stretches rely on the ability to touch one's toes. And yet, I love the feeling of a good stretch in every other muscle. It's only the straight-leg-stretches that set alarm bells of in my brain. I've always just found them painfully uncomfortable. I've tried so many times to search for an answer and not once have I learnt about the sciatic nerve. It makes so much sense. I injured my coccyx as a child and have always wondered if it's related. It's a relief to discover this secret and I'm hopeful it will make a difference. Thanks so much for the insight and gentle guidance 🌱💙

This is just the most brilliant thing I've ever heard. I did recreational rhythmic gymnastics for 8 years and never got my splits or anything. Any stretches that were supposed to help the hamstring made my calves burn intensely, and my coach said it was normal. She probably thought my hamstrings were tight, but now I understand why this was always impossible for me. I had an eureka moment watching this, I truly never thought I'd find out what my problem was. Now that I've restarted working out and stretching after leaving gymnastics almost 6 months ago, I've encountered the same problem. I will add this to my stretching routine to see if it works for me. I have a lot of problems with these stretches since years, went to physiotherapists, orthopedics and so on...this is the first time I hear something that seems to make sense :o Will definitely try that out!

Can’t believe this actually works 😭 I’ve been doing stretches for a while and my leg flexibility didn’t improve. But when I did this exercise immediately after watching this my legs stretched further than ever! Took a pic of myself before and after, from 30 degrees to 80! Still not a full stretch but the instant result was amazing! Thanks!

Wow, so glad this came up in my recommended feed. Loved the explanation, incredibly concise yet informative and that troubleshooting part at the 1 min mark was brilliant, loved that. I think I just found my flexibility channel ! Thank you !

I saw this video a few months ago and now I'm giving it a real try, and so far it has made a HUGE difference! The forward fold is the bane of my existence, and I could never explain why that specific stretch hurt SO MUCH MORE and was SO MUCH TIGHTER than everything else I tried. I've spent SO many years trying to stretch that area without any success, feeling that the stretching was just making me tighter somehow. Now that I'm trying nerve flossing and being careful to give the nerves a break rather than just banging on them like I was, I already feel my legs unlocking in a way they never have before. Best part is that I don't have to push through that incredible grinding pain I would get trying to do the forward fold! I always thought I was just being a wuss about it, because the only way to stretch is to just suck it up and push through the pain, right? But now, allowing myself to leave that behind me is the BEST feeling, and is encouraging me to stretch more because now it actually feels good! Thank you SO MUCH!!

Very interesting, I have never heard of this nerve impacting your leg flexibility before. While not as big as in your video, I definitely saw some improvement after doing the exercise. I will keep doing it and see how my flexibility improves.

Holy crap I always thought it was my calves and hated stretching them because of that weird tingling sensation. I think this video just changed my life...your my hero I'm subscribing on principle.

Just found this channel. I've been trying to improve my flexibility over the past few months with some small gains but still feels like I'm fighting my body. I can't wait to start adding this tips to my flex routine.

WHAT?! THIS MAKES STRETCHING FEEL SO MUCH BETTER. I’ve always had what my family calls sciatica because it runs in the family but nobody knew the fix. I’ve been flexible always but couldn’t stretch this problem away. And now it just… DOESNT TINGLE AND HURT to extend my legs like that????? God bless you for the simplicity of how you explained this.

I had no idea the nerves could be tight! That explains so much! I'd thought that stretching the muscle helped the nerves.

wow, always had some sciatic tightness and I was a little skeptical. Went from about 45deg (been sitting too much lately) to nearly 90 is about 40 seconds! Nice. About being gentle yes definitely. Was doing some physical therapy for a sciatica flare up and before I was properly diagnosed I was guided through some stretches that were too aggressive and really irritated the nerve. Probably the most painful thing I've ever been through. So be gentle!

This has almost instant results for me. I'm frankly amazed. I haven't been able to sit with legs outstretched let alone forward bend for two years since a disc problem. I rebuilt strength and flexibility, had physio, have taken up regular ring callisthenics and climb twice a week, but simply have been unable to shake persistent sciatic tightness, cramping, knee locking in one leg and an inability to bend over the same leg. I tried this exercise after watching the vid, 'flapping' the the foot and rotating with the straight leg raised at the angle where the discomfort starts. Three sets of about forty seconds flexing and some gentle leg raises with the aid of a theraband later and I can now raise my leg to vertical and the discomfort I was feeling in the back and glute area has gone. I never knew nerves could be actively stretched. This was priceless. Thank you.
