ON ENTERING THE CHURCH, take Holy Water, Bless Yourself, and say: Sprinkle me O Lord with hyssop, and I shall be cleansed; wash me, and I shall be made whiter than snow. O God who art present in every place, help me to realize Thy Presence here and now In quietness and in confidence shall be your strength, Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on Thee. HOLY, OR BLESSED WATER. From the history of the earliest ages Of the Church we are informed that it was the practice to bless all inanimate things destined for the use of man, and particularly such as were used in the services of religion. Thus a blessing was pronounced over the water and oil used in the administration of the sacraments. Besides this, water mixed with salt that had been blessed was placed at the entrance of Churches, with which the faithful sprinkled themselves, and with which they and other things were often sprinkled by the Minister. This ancient practice is still retained in the Catholic Church. SALT MINGLED WITH WATER, is deemed the emblem of prudence and incorruption ; and the WATER denotes purity and innocence of heart ; while he who enters the place of worship , and applies it, with the Sign of the Cross, to his Forehead, is admonished by the action that with cleanliness of heart and hand he should appear in the presence of his Maker.

Why does the video put on X on 1:49? Is this because the thumb is on the corner of the book? If so why is the thumb on the book at 1:38. Have I missed something here? Is there a principal liturgically that is he is intentionally violating for the X, or a particular rubric? If so what is it?

The X was because of the ribbon. When the Priest opens the Missal and moves the ribbon, he is supposed to use his left hand to pick up the ribbon, then move it to the centre where his right hand takes the ribbon to place it down on the right page of the Missal. In other words, he is not supposed to cross his hands over.

OF THE SIGN OF THE CROSS. The sign of the cross +++ is prescribed in our rituals to be frequently used particularly in the administration of Baptism and in the Holy Sacrifice of the Mass, to signify that all grace is derived from the Passion of Christ. The CROSS besides, is marked on all parts of the Priest's vestments, and on the vessels appropriated to divine service, to denote their destination. On the Altars is raised a Cross, with a figure of Christ on it, to remind us that it was He Who died for the sins of the world, and that" there is no other name under heaven whereby we may be saved." [Acts iv. 12.] Finally we often mark ourselves with the sign of the cross, pronouncing the words," in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost. Amen."---thereby attesting our belief in the Bessed Trinity and in the incarnation and death of Our Saviour.
