Quick note I should have mentioned in the vid: the cabinet doesn't close tight, there are pretty big gaps in the door panels. So humidity is almost the same as in my plant room. Also I don't have issues with stale air it seems, I do leave the doors open in the day I water, just in case, but so far no mold outbreaks, or any indication of circulation issues! 😁 Some people do use humidifuers and fans inside, which is a great idea, I luckily seem to not really need them for now 😉

Happy New Year to you, Danny! I just acquired a bunch more orchids the other day, and I know I'm well-prepared to care for them since I watch your videos all the time 😄 And I have an orchid suggestion for you! You mentioned that the Mini Mark is one of the few Phals that have spotted flowers... Well, I'd highly suggest the Phalaenopsis Li'l Bit to add to that list! It's a cross between Phal lindenii and Phal maculata, so it has the amazing mottled leaves of lindenii and the spotting on the flowers inherited from maculata (just like Mini Mark), with a beautiful "rainbow lip"! I just got mine the other day and it has a cute flower spike developing, so I haven't seen the flowers in person just yet. But based on the pictures I've seen, I already know I'll love it. Maybe give that one a try as well! I'm sure it would look amazing next to the Mini Mark 😄

I just bought two mini phals for my Rudsta wide that I’m using for my ferns. I do have mine weather stripped and a humidifier that I run maybe 2 minutes twice a day and fans in mine because I live where it’s extremely cold and the furnace running day and night keeps our household humidity around 20%. The orchids look gorgeous among the ferns I just hope I can keep them alive.

Hi Danny. Happy New Years !!! Thanks for special place for mom’s orchid and doing well. Congrats on 300k, onward towards half mil -one thousand subs in couple days yeh !! Perhaps a good idea to put a computer fan on top panel during summer to remove heat and prevent mold issues. But keeping doors slightly opened might help. Good luck. Hugs.

MissOrchidGirl 🥳 Happy New Years. Perhaps to prevent hot spots when temperatures are elevated and with the LED’s creating a bit of heat seems a good idea using a fan, also to prevent mold growth. In nurseries usually is good air movement.

Hey Danny, congratulations on hitting the 300k subs! I am so happy for you 😍. I've been a subscriber since your leca or semihydro setup era 😆I've learned a lot an helped me with my orchids so I salute you from the Philippines. It's super hard for me right now because my garden where I keep my orchids have snails, bush snails and slugs that came back every rainy season so hydrogen peroxide might not help much, hope that you could address this issue one day, it's a pain on my dendrobiums and cattleyas.

Hey Danny, love the video! I have been watching your videos and thank you for showing us the cattleya magic! I have changed my collection completely from bulb and Den to Catt just for the rewarding blooms and scent. Just wondering, if you were to add cattleya into the cabinet, is there anything you would change? Perhaps 4 tubes per shelf or is it too over kill? Lighting is on the low side here living in the UK, particularly i only have east and west facing window; Temperature is a little on the cold side as well so hopfully the carbinet would give them a better chance! Looking forward to hear from you. Regards, Phil

I think the humidity was also a contributing factor to the growth. The enclosed cabinet would help retain the moisture and therefore raise the humidity in the air surrounding the orchids in the cabinet.

Hello MOG, I'm new to the channel and to the world of orchids as well. I have this dendrobium, it doesn't have leaves, and roots' color were black (maybe because my mom used charcoal as medium). I noticed that the pseudobulb is turning brown, near the root system), but the upper part is green. I tried repotting it, I checked the roots some were still hard to the touch. But the brownish part of the pseudobulb is soft. Is it dying already? I wanted to make it flourish again, since it was my mother's orchids..

nice! i live in tropical country so these orchids you call “summer bloomers” are our normal we keep in our balconies and indoors the house. they produce leaves and flowers year round. well, when proper cared for. :) what is difficult for me are the moth phal kind which needs colder temp. so maybe our setup will be opposite of yours, keeping those needing cold inside the cabinet, like a fridge :) on ventilation, you said that you keep door a bit open, but i thought orchids needs air circulation /moving wind. another question, your medium is mix of bark and sp moss? thanks.

What to do if you end up overwatering your orchids in winter? Can you place them on top of radiators to dry out faster, is it safe, is it necessary?
@MissOrchidGirl4 жыл бұрын
Hi, over watering refers more to frequency than quantity, so no need to 'dry' them off if the potting mix is suited for your environment. Adjusting frequency is enough in most cases. If you find the mix stays wet for weeks on end, I would definitely consider changing it to a less water retentive material. Good luck! 😊

@@MissOrchidGirl You're right😅 I am planning mine in another way. I have found special electrics that are designed for terrariums/greenhouses with build-in sprinklers and are certified waterproof. @MissOrchidGirl4 жыл бұрын
Hi, 6500 is not necessarily ideal in the led world, it's just good, as is 4k, 5k.. with rgb led the color temperature is highly.. hiiiiighly relative anyway, it used to apply more to fluorescent tubes. A 4k can look wildly different from brand to brand as I discovered! I never go for the color temperature anymore, it lost meaning sadly, I need to have an idea only and look for videos on that product, or find out the red/blue/white led ratio and imagine how it could look like 😊
