Ilan Pappe on Israel: "We are witnessing the beginning of the end"

In an interview with Al Jazeera, Israeli historian Ilan Pappe says that Israel is a settler colonial project which may be coming to an end. He warns that settler colonial projects reaching their last phase become more “brutal and ruthless”.

Just because there was a Political Vote in the UN with the result that Palestine is a State doesn’t make it so under International Law. UN Resolutions don’t have the Force of Law. From the Law perspective Gazans are illegal inside Israeli Territory. Israel left Gaza in 2005 but didn’t sign any Treaty to give Gaza so Gaza is still Israel.

If I had to choose on a prominent factor to begin analysis, I say the gun came here . The ethnic cleansing of Jews from almost every arab nation in the region FORCED those Jews to move elsewhere or die. I do not believe this would be considered "colonialism". These Jews had no place else to go. They had been living in DP camps for 3 years after the war, after losing all their homes, possessions ans most of their family members. When it became clear that the Jews in Europe were to be rounded up and murder4ed by the millions, the eyes of these "condemned Jews" turned to Palestine. Do oyu know what "humanitarian efforts" the existing population of Palestine exercised. "DO NOT SEND THEM HERE." The arabs used all their influence to insure that Jewish civilians would die before being allowed to enter Palestine. What he's referring to is how authoritarian police state governments deny rights to their own citizens, like freedom of speech, freedom of the the press and the right to gather and protest. This already happens in Israel. Those who protest government behavior are declared "enemies of the state", "anti Israel", "subversive", etc. which automatically leads to detainment and persecution of the segment of the population within the society that dares to raise questions that challenge the ruling elites. They will end up joining the perpetually surveiled and detained Palestinians as political prisoners. I agree with you. where I live on the east coast of Canada the indigenous people had to fight back because the settlers had gone crazy under a new governor who brought in a scalp bounty. After WW11, the UK, US and Europe decided to create a State for Jews to settle in...well it was the UK's Lord Balfour who had the genius idea after WW1...but it wasn't magnanimous of them, they just didn't want Jews emigrating to and settling in their countries...and it didn't matter that they had to steal the lands in Palestine to do so. Prior to this land theft, Palestinians Jews, Muslims and Christians lived in relative peace in Palestine, and then after the Nakba, all these Jews from Europe and everywhere else moved to a State surrounded by Muslim and Arab countries. America has used Israel as a storage locker for their weapons to use in that part of the world. It’s easy to ship bombs from Israel to Iraq for example. Plus they use Israel as a spy to keep an eye out in the region for them. America is using Israel for its war purposes and it MUST be located in the Middle East to be of use for America, but Europe just wanted Israel created (anywhere in the world, doesn’t have to be in the Middle East) as a place to export the Jewish people out of Europe. Israel has been doing very poorly financially during November, but the US sent money and made it catch up with the market. But it's going down again because many Palestinians are removed from their jobs, and they are getting paid as unemployment. Bibi even called the ruler of U.A.E and asked for money but he was rejected. Israel also asked for money from Australia, but he was denied money there too. Currently, the UK, the US and Germany are the only ones financing Israel. The US is having economic problems (supposedly due to immigration). It is most likely the first to go bankrupt with Israel. They can't afford to send more money to Israel. I think the UK and Germany are in better economic positions. Meanwhile, China and Russia are investing in the mining sectors of Africa and other regions. Their economy is improving. More people are investing in China and Russia now. Also, sectors that supported Israel did poorly in 2023 due to the boycott actions. You can check the financial reports on Scotia Bank and Disney, for example.
