Feeling unwell tests you, especially at the start of a big trip. Nothing much you can do about catching a bug but I'm sure you would have benefited you from riding loaded bikes 50 miles before leaving. Hindsight is a wonderful thing! So nice to see you both smiling no matter what. Nice video, better than the ones that just portray things being perfect on their ride. Thanks.

I hope the knee holds out - rest days and a couple of train rides as others have said. Joe spent a lot of his time on his knees doing the wood floor and rust scraping in the narrow boat so that might be why. Anyway keep at it guys we will watch you whatever means it takes to get to Greece. Also maybe this adventure is your personal remake of "Planes, Trains and Automobiles" and if you recall Steve Martin and John Candy do get there in the end!!! Best of luck !

Hi both - you're doing great. Wild camping is not our cup of tea but we like bike touring. 80km for a first ride is immense. We've done 70km max when we're cycling every day. One bit of advice is to try and wear the padded shorts every day. You get an injury quicker than it heals and knicker elastic is killer for rubbing so go commando and wash through every day. Hopefully you have 2 pairs to wear one wash/dry one. Joe - I got bad knees from my seat not being positioned correctly - keep adjusting until you have less pain. Enjoy the rest of the trip.

Couple of thoughts; 1. Use public transport to do the distances, carry your bikes and use them to get from station to end destinations. Give you knee lots of recovery. 2. Pick up some electric conversion kits or e-bikes. The challenge will be getting batteries charged. 3. Mopeds? Not sure how you would get insurance tho. Best of luck and loving the series.

Hi, might be your saddle height is too low which will make your knees sore. When you sit you sit on the bike adjust the saddle height so your leg is straight when your heel is on the pedal on down stroke. When you pedal using the balls of your feet your knees should be slightly bent on the down stroke. Hope this helps! Keep up the great videos 😊 👍

Guys, that is superb coverage of your epic touring journey. Its rare to see such a balanced coverage which shows so much of the variety of the areas you are experiencing. Please keep that mix including the drone footage which was great. Sorry to see Joe's knees are failing! I'm 64, tell me about it! But seriously you don't expect it being younger and its a bit of a setback but maybe a local doc can prescribe good painkillers just to get you through. Anyway please maintain the excellent coverage and I look forward to you cycling up hills - from my armchair!! All the best. Paul. PS I am an inlsnd waterways enthusiast since 1969 and enjoy the narrow boating too.

150k in well done. Rehab therapy and you'll be good to go. Everything you are experiencing is so common when you up the pace from your normal activities. The cough; you're breathing deeper and more frequently (remember the hills) it is just your body re-adjusting. You will also be hotter as your bodies cope with the change in pace. Now the knee. It also is not a problem it is too much thigh tension, also very common when people take up this type of cycling. The remedy; lie face down and bare foot raise complaining side first half way; then imagine you are dropping the foot on to a trampoline (so it bounces). Like this; drop your foot towards your butt (the trampoline) two bounces and back to the start, repeat a few times aim for smoothness, then the other leg. The test how close to the butt did you get? was there a difference between legs? Poor = leg stays at 90 degrees, good = halfway between 90 degrees and your butt, normal = reaching and passing the good point with ease. Repeat everyday sends the problem away!
