Exactly, there were 3 calls I could mention that went against Kansas toward the end. That 2-point conversion play that had a BS targeting call, Kansas not getting a first down somehow, and Illinois getting away with a targeting although you best bet if that were the other way around, that call would’ve stood. I was screaming at the TV about those refs and I’m not a fan of either team.

That’s what the RPO will do. Daniels has the ability to freeze the defenders because at any time he can run for a 70 yard TD. They use him similarly to how Lamar Jackson was used at Louisville. (I’m not saying Daniels is at the caliber that Lamar Jackson is) but if you go back and watch him at Louisville there is alot of similarities

Illinois was not ready for the QB and by the time they adjusted it was a little to late. They fought hard and had a chance at the end but the bad start was the difference. I think that each team has a chance to have a decent season.

@@lakerskid2013 as a diehard college football fan. And a lifelong Buckeye fan of 40 plus years. I live and breathe college football. And Kansas legitimately looked like a top 25 type team. The one thing about football though is the injuries. I don’t know how deep they are. But. Their starting 22 is definitely solid and I could see them going 8-4, 7-5 if they stay healthy. The B12 isn’t as deep as the B10 so barring injury 8-4 is likely.

Illinois better send thank you cards to those refs. Refs tried so hard to have Illinois come back in that 2nd half. They called one of the worst controversial targeting calls ever. They also said a runner was short on 3rd down when the guy was tackled two yards past 1st down. Kansas challenged it and they still said he was short. Took away a Kansas TD for the worst block in the back call that even the announcers were like where’s the flag lol.

This score should’ve been a lot different my hawks dominated and dictated the whole competition. Gotta say… as a college football fan in general. Texas, Oklahoma, and K State but I think Kansas can still have a solid shot at competing with all three. Only blow out last year was the Texas game. They went down to the wire with Tcu and they went to the natty. Kansas looks twice as good this season. Faster, more sound and quicker to the ball. Plus the defense have been a magnet to the ball. I hate to say it but most of the big 12 looks down this year except Kansas.

Kansas was getting screwed over by the refs a couple times that led to Illinois getting back in the game, from the BS targeting call on the 2-point conversion (which Illinois converted on the retry) followed by that BS spot that should’ve been a first down for Kansas and then they had a turnover on downs later on from it. Also a targeting call by Illinois that got overturned. At least Kansas held their composure, past Kansas teams would’ve blown that 27 point lead.

They got torched in a variety of ways and if that was a top 5 big 10 defense it looked like Div 4 or a summer league squad. They couldn't stop anything. Watch out . That's a huge huge huge fall for a defense that played toe to toe with UM last year . Or was UM offense that bad. Because Kansas chopped them up all 4 quarters. No problem at all. It was easy .

The KU offense was among the best in 2022, and returned 10 of 11 starters, 21 of 22 on the 2-deep. The Illini might not be a top D this year but a lot has to do in this case with the opposing offense.

Illinois did not like their QB apparently for 3 quarters and then decided to actually start protecting him and calling plays he was comfortable with. If they had a little more time they probably could've been able to send it to OT if they had stopped Daniels.

Maybe it's just me and I'm imagining things, but it feels like both being a defensive back, and coaching defensive backs has severely downgraded. Next time your watching highlights for a week, in every single game and on almost every single pass, it's almost like the CB's and S's aren't even trying to prevent catches and the only time they play the ball is if the QB throws it directly to them. Over and over again, on every team, in every game I see Dbacks with good close coverage, yet they keep their back turned to the ball on every pass, almost like the NCAA wants a lot of passing and crazy uncontested catches to make it more exciting and sell more tickets. I'm 45 years old, but back when I played they taught us to read the receivers eyes and hips and shoulders and mirror their movements. It was common sense that when the receiver is looking back for the ball, when his eyes start looking up that means the ball is in the air and coming to him. If the receiver stops, or turns and jumps then that means you turn and jump. I'm not imagining things, or exaggerating, just start looking at the highlights a little closer for yourselves.... defensive backs don't hardly ever play the ball, or read and mirror the receivers anymore.

Combined with IMO the best RB duo in the BIG12 their gonna average around 30ppg easy! If the defense can continue to force turnovers than I don’t see why Kansas can’t win 7-8 games honestly.
