I lost my baby at 16weeks. However my womb decided it didn’t want to let her go, and kept her soaking and rotting. I got so sick, and had to have an “abortion” because I was getting septic. Wow... I'm glad you're ok. I'm confident Ohio still would have given you the care you needed though. What you had should count as a high-risk pregnancy in which case Ohio allows abortion in those cases even with Ohio's heartbeat bill in effect. You should have gotten the care you needed regardless, but the trouble seems to be I've heard stories of doctors delaying treatment because they didn't fully understand the legal specifics of Roe v Wade being overturned. Hopefully doctors not understanding the law is very rare now that it's been over a year since Roe v Wade was overturned. Considering Texas and Alabama also allow abortion in cases where the mother is at serious risk like with ectopic tubal pregnancies, I think we can all agree that the proper handling of a miscarriage, particularly in your case, is essential healthcare and that it's fair in legal terms to have the option to get an abortion if the doctor confirms a pregnancy is high risk (though it's also a heroic act to carry a high risk pregnancy to term if the baby can be saved if the mother wants to). Side note: I've done a fair amount of research since I first saw this video about 4 days after it was posted. I have yet to see abortion defined as anything other than the termination of a pregnancy, I don't know where Illy got her definition from (11:33) let alone if it's true, because that would make treating uterine cancer illegal...

Regardless if you believe in abortion or not, it’s upsetting to hear how difficult it was to get basic medical care. There's been some good debate in the replies, but no mean-spirited comments are needed please. There's nothing intentionally malicious about what I said. I was in Georgia when I had my miscarriage. That was when GA was saying that it would mean jail time for any woman that miscarried. I was so scared when my miscarriage started that i didnt go to the hospital. I stayed home and gave birth to my tiny 2 inch baby boy that definitely didnt develop correctly (his legs were together from his knees to his feet). I was alone and was in horrible pain. I barried him in a small box. I bleed for maybe 2 straight weeks. I thought i was going to die. Luckily, i went back home to kentucky a few months later and got checked out by my OBGYN and i had a complete miscarriage (meaning no tissue was left inside to rot and kill me). Most women are not as lucky, my body was able to expell all of my baby's tissue. I didnt need a D&C.

@@AJOlesenthe issue is that these lawmakers want to get rid of planned parenthood and places that provide these procedures, so by getting rid of planned parenthood, not only are they getting rid of safe abortion, they're getting rid of the tons of other resources, help and procedures that planned parenthood provides. It's pretty much the latter half of the video where Illy says lawmakers don't know shit about the laws they're passing. I have mixed feelings on having an abortion, because there's arguments that sound valid for both sides, and because I'm not a female I'll never experience the fear that Illy was going through in the video. However, I believe that in the event that it's the mother or the child, there should be an option for the mother to save themselves if they choose. If the fetus, or "fetus" in the case of the video, is literally killing the host, then the option should always exist to save yourself. I could swear I once saw a trailer on TV as early as the late 2000s for a story about a 6 year old girl getting pregnant, though I have no idea how true it was. It goes without saying it shouldn't happen in the first place, but girls being able to get pregnant before they're teenagers is crazy and harder to believe the younger it happens... It just doesn't sound like it should be possible. Is it a side effect of excess estrogen coming from women using birth control getting into drinking water? I think it would do America some good if professional fertility doctors came together and published a high profile documentary explaining everything our top medical scientists know about reproductive health in the present day with zero political interference, including mentioning facts both Planned Parenthood and far right republicans wouldn't want people to know.

Here in Australia we have "Safe Access Zones" outside of Abortion Clinics. This basically means that it is illegal to protest within 150m of an Abortion Clinic, or harass visitors to the clinic. These laws apply 24/7, 365. And it is fully illegal - if you protest outside a clinic they will call the police and you will get arrested! It's something that's really necessary that isn't talked about heaps, even in states in the USA where abortion is legal unfortunately :(

12:09 That happened to my Aunt. She had a miscarriage of a wanted baby, but the dead fetus didn't leave her body, so she had to go to an abortion clinic, or risk death. She had to walk past many protesters carrying pictures of dead fetuses, and calling her a murderer. Reminder, this was a *Wanted* child, she was there to "murder" a wanted child. Same with my aunt. She and my uncle tried to have kids many, many, times. A few of those times she actually got pregnant. But not a single one was a success, and once or twice she had to get rid of the dead fetuses because her body couldn’t expel them. And the same thing happened with the protests. This was 7 years ago! I still remember once she actually got past the 12 week mark in pregnancy, I was quite little but she picked me up and told me that soon I was gonna have a baby cousin. Then I remember a few weeks later she was skinnier and she looked really sad. I understand what happened now. But the people still yelled at her. They called her a c*nt, w**re, and so many other names all because she lost another child that she wanted so badly. She and my uncle gave up soon after that, and it’s only brought us closer, but it makes me wonder why the people protesting think they know everything about every person who walks through those doors. We are silent the whole time, we stand their quietly, for 8 hours, without uttering a single word. There have been multiple times where nurses have come out and told us to "go back to Taliban", times where patients would see us, and call us terrorists and bombers. One protester, a guy who escaped the Darfur genocide in Sudan, was seen by a 28 year old patient. She walked right up to him and punched him. She is in jail for assault. Police have ruled on our favor multiple times because we werent yelling anything, not screaming in peoples ears, just standing silently with signs. We have only done this for three years, but two in the St.Paul area have moved because of us, just because of some immigrants fasting holding signs outside. Its crazy

I agree. It’s a political opinion that everyone has a right to, but that doesn’t mean you choose what someone does to their body. Because when it comes down to it, no one cares about the kids that are actually here. What are people going to do about the ever growing numbers of children in foster care or orphanages? Nothing. But no, let’s eliminate an option so no one can care about women during gestation, postpartum, and medical care, and financial support, and also ignore kids in terrible homes where no one should have given birth. That's so awful. I cannot IMAGINE harassing a teenager at an abortion clinic. Obviously something has gone really wrong for her to be there. Isn't that enough?? Firstly, as Illy pointed out, many people go to "abortion clinics" for reasons other than abortion. Secondly, I'm pretty sure that it's a VERY TINY MINORITY of people who get an abortion flippantly. There are SO many people who feel forced into it, due to dangers to their own health or the health of the fetus, or knowing perfectly well that they are unable to care for the baby if they gave birth. And people who are like "just put it up for adoption!!" INFURIATE me. It's so fucking ignorant. Healthcare in the US is extremely expensive, including childbirth - lots of people can't afford the medical bills even if they aren't keeping the baby. Pregnancy is also EXTREMELY hard on the mother's body, sometimes with lifelong consequences, which again means medical bills that they might not be able to afford. And more than anything, the foster care system in the US is absolute trash, there are so many thousands of children who can't find homes (I keep hearing stories about foster kids having to sleep in offices and in CARS because the system is so overwhelmed and there's nowhere else to go). Many more foster kids are tremendously abused - statistically way more often than other children - and statistically adult foster children are much more likely to end up homeless or in prison. It's fucking awful. Why would you think that's somehow better for the child OR the parents?? I feel like so many pro-life people believe that people get abortions and "end a life" on a whim, and it's simply not true... for the vast, vast majority of cases, abortion is an absolutely crushing decision, one that the person lives with for the rest of their life, but they feel they have no choice. In some cases, they really do have no choice. And some people will be like "then just don't have sex!!!!!" Like abstinence-only education EVER works... we're human. Everyone makes mistakes. We shouldn't have to suffer lifelong consequences for making a mistake. Especially young people. And it's especially awful to inflict lifelong suffering on the potential child because their parent(s) made a mistake. I just don't understand.

The legal definition of an abortion is the ending of a fetus. So no you did not get an abortion. And in all red states an abortion is allowed if the life of a women is at risk. Secondly the percentage of women that get an abortion because their life is at stake are 10%. So what you’re saying cannot be further from the truth. And don’t say pro life don’t care about the actual living person because an abortion = killing a baby so I would say pro choice don’t care about the life of a living baby in the wound And yes we do care for the life of the baby and the women. Hey, OB/GYN in Texas here! Thank you for sharing your story and bringing awareness to how safe and necessary D&Cs are for a variety of reasons. The good news is we can still perform them in Texas for abnormal tissue in the uterus and to manage miscarriages even now that Roe v Wade has been overturned. We can still treat ectopic pregnancies too! It's frustrating that law makers have criminalized abortions (which people should have access to), but just wanted to provide some hope to people that we're still here doing what we can even in Texas

My sister had an abortion. The baby had no brain, the medulla was just flapping in fluid inside it's head. There was the tiniest, slimmest of chances that the baby would survive if born, but it would have been a vegetable hooked up to machines, would have been unable to grow, or do anything. Not to mention, the birthing process would have been incredibly difficult on my sister's body, due to the position the baby had grown in. There was a high chance she could have permanent damage, or even die, just to birth a baby that had a 99.99% chance of being still-born. So, she had an abortion. What kills me is that, because of the state I'm in, if she had been born just 25 years later, and had lived the same life, and had gotten the exact same pregnancy...she would have been denied that procedure. Just because of the state she lived in. Something a lot of "pro-life" people don't seem to understand is that this can be a lifesaving procedure, in so, so many ways. So, what they do, is they take away that choice, because of their own ignorance and refusal to even think about the possible consequences of their actions. I genuinely hope things turn around, and start getting better.

People need to stop automatically assuming that going to planned parenthood is just for abortions. If it weren't for them, I wouldn't have known I was pregnant because I kept getting negatives on my tests. I didn't have morning sickness or anything until I was in my second trimester. A couple weeks after I found out I was pregnant, I thought that I was having a miscarriage or an ectopic pregnancy. The pain was unbearable and I was bleeding so much. It varies from state to state in the USA, some consider this not an abortion since it is not a living child or will develop into one and still have abortion bans while others Texas, Florida. Alabama, and Mississippi ban going outside the state for any kind of abortion should you need one to keep living or even visiting a planned parenthood even if you do. Florida is the worst state right now with teachers leaving and I hope that DeSanto's runs then gets blocked by a Democrat, or even a smarter Republican who is not a true Dictator, as if it were legal DeSanto's would have made it illegal to leave the state of Florida before all these bad laws were passed. Then 2 of my Cousins who went to school there by parents choice went to a private school in the mid 2000 to 2020 and other 2023 for them because the public school systems in most of Florida outside of Miami's good district to live in Sucked even in 2000's nobody was learning in school, you basically only got taught to read well and write okay even back pre the DeSanto's mess of learning with even the math's being so far behind as well as all other subjects that use knowledge on purpose to try and keep people in Florida so it did not become a conservative retirement state full of those people only at the time. My other Cousins who now live in Florida only do becuse their mom they do not really like is ban from State of Florida for some reason and mom is in Georgia now, so they can visit her on good weeks/months at times yet go home to a state she go ban from. The mom she is crazy, but they also hate dad Uncle I am related too as he drinks way too much.

There is a planned parenthood near me that has a biker group that tries to come as much as they can to create a physical blockade to protect the patients which honestly gives me some hope. I live in Canada tho, and while our healthcare is “better” technically we’re sliding into these same problems as conservative politicians are trying to copy and paste the same shit that’s happening in the states. One technique their doing is we have the legal right to access all healthcare, but they can make it that only select hospitals can offer it, clinics have to jump through ridiculous hoops and often receive no public funding. This doesn’t even go into how long our wait times are, and how little primary care doctors there are. I’m lucky and have a family doctor, but the earliest I can get any appointment is 3 months away, and to see a obgyn can be over a year wait list. And there are also limits to what a walk in clinic can do, so if you don’t have a primary care doctor your kinda left to go to emerg and hope you get to see a decent emerg doctor. Hospital emerg wait times can be up to 12 hours. So some provinces especially on the east coast will have maybe 2 locations where they can access a abortion or most reproductive health. Depending on where you are that could mean a 5 hour drive to access healthcare which is insanely inaccessible. It basically means you have to hope you catch it ridiculously early, you can get a day off work, have a car, wait between 4-12 hours, hope you can have a same day appointment which likely would not happen, possibly stay at a hotel or drive back same day. And you may need childcare on top of that, and you also need to have another adult go with you who’s schedule is also free. The amount of hoops you have to jump through to access healthcare is insanely frustrating.

I live in the east coast of Canada and this is very accurate. I am still waiting to see and OBGYN since last November. I have a growth in my uterus but no one deems it important enough and I have to wait over a year to make an appointment.

Please, take care of yourselves out there yall Edit: I’m reading the comments and I understand there’s multiple reasons to have this procedure, I used tumors as an example. I understand that having a baby itself could be dangerous. I was highlighting my shock that people wouldn’t be able to get the procedure for situations like (but not limited to) dangerous tumors that would be there only to harm. Even scarier when some law-makers are trying to push for women who have miscarriages to be considered guilty of manslaughter - despite being entirely out of their control.
@ruaraidh74 Жыл бұрын
1. Planned Parenthood literally says its not an abortion 2. There are ZERO laws in existence that define it as an abortion 3. NARAL was the first group to popularize this claim, and their co-founder has OPENLY ADMITTED they lie and make up stats to push a narrative 4. Every OB/GYN and their mom can tell you this is NOT an abortion. 5. Even if none of those were the case, frontal lobes exist and human beings are capable of making nuanced laws, however incompetent the government may be. So this is a bad argument for killing 2300 innocent humans a day.

Miscarriages are medically called Spontaneous Abortions. Removal of an eggtopic pregnancy (fertilized egg developing within the phallopein tube) is also considered an abortion. Basically an abortion is anything involving the removal of something growing within the reproductive system. It’s really messed up because of the Roe V Wade overturn

This one though… it must have been tough to talk about not only that but I can only imagine how it felt… I’m sorry that law makers are doing all this stuff and making it harder on not just you but all females who need to get that procedure to save their lives. I’m huge on pro choice and I just wanna say that despite everything that has happened… I’m glad that you chose what you thought was best and I just hope that later on, law makers figure out that what they think is an abotion isn’t always the case, and that people put in your situation sometimes need to get the procedure to continue to live a nice and enjoyable life! I’m sorry if this was a lot… but I’ll end it by saying, illysa, you’re doing awesome and I want you to know that you aren’t fighting these battles alone.
