See here’s my thing, reducing illegal immigration is something that should be enforced because it is technically breaking the law entering a country illegally. But making it that much harder and more expensive for legal immigrants to come into the country is what I don’t understand. What is the point in that? It’s already a long and expensive process so making it even more difficult is what I just don’t agree with. EVERYONE has or had relatives who had to come to the US for our grandparents, parents, and for us to be born here and be citizens. Now citizens are against legal immigration and act racist towards those who are here legally not knowing their situation.

U.S. Congress passed the Amerasian Immigration Act (PL 97-359). The law prioritized U.S. immigration to children fathered by U.S. citizens including from Korea, Laos, Cambodia, Vietnam, and Thailand. Currently, it unfairly excludes children from the Philippines. Hope and wish that they will include PHILIPPINES, america consider phils their friend, allies but they forgot about us.

I don't see what would be so bad about the merit system. I started the process to get my husband's residency in April 2018, outside of the US, which we were told was the "correct" way to do it. We have been married 15 years, have 3 kids and now we want to raise them as a family in MY country of birth. I constantly hear and personally know people who after being married months go to the US on a tourist visa, request a change of status and in 6 months recieve their residency. How is that fair?

Of all Trump's lies, the "Trump is for immigration" one is the easiest for people to swallow. Without having first-hand knowledge of just how badly he's messed up the (already messed-up) immigration system, it's easy to believe that he's only targeting illegal immigration. The reality is that his policies and rhetoric have made the legal immigration process much more difficult and time-consuming. My wife has been trying to immigrate for over two years and we have no idea when or if she will be able to.

Hi Jacob, this is great. But one thing I suggest you change in your language --- rather than use "illegal immigrants" I think it's more respectful to use "undocumented immigrants". The action of coming to the US without documents may be illegal, but living in the U.S. without documents is not illegal. You can think of it the same way as someone who shoplifts. Their act was illegal, but we do not call that person who shoplifted an illegal person. Using such a term dehumanizes them and supports the societal negative stigma against them. Jose Antonio Vargas' book or talks has more information regarding this issue if you're interested.

I highly dislike this partisan kind of videos... and you mixe a bunch of stuff, example at 4 min, you say "Trump hit legal immigration", then talk about the travel ban ( which was due to pandemic ) but also then talk about the wall... which is a hit against illegal immigration. I look forward to the merits system and I think it's great to have a president who is focusing on taking care of his people and his nation. When you look at what happened in europe in term of immigration, loss of nations identities and cultural crisis I really think we should be double careful in the messages we are spreading. I think it was 75% to 25% I'm not sure on the exact percentage, we should make a look. The point is, he was giving a preference to employment and merit. The reform he did on h1b was very good and protecting migrants from bad companies exploiting them. When we set the emotion aside, I think we can see that trump is not a monster and is trying to update/upgrade the immigration system.
