It was two years ago, I follow this tutorial with hope I can make similar system for my game, little did I know it was too much for beginner like me. Feeling clueless and defeated, I move on decided I am just too dumb to use it.. Now.. I get back to it after years of training, face my hauntingly complex unity tutorial that makes me feel worthless two years ago. Now I am ready to LEARN IT.

I am really enjoying learning so many new skill in Unity. I used to try to do things in javascript and Three.js that doing in Unity is so much easier because of the editor having so many tools and also these tutorials giving so many tips. But would be even greater if the authors gave the step by step of the implementation. For beginers like me would be extremely helpfull, since I'm still getting the basics of Unity. Like baby steps. Like I was back in 2018 learning the basics of javascript DOM manipulation and Vue.js reactivity. Currently I work full time as frontend webdeveloper using Vue.js and back in then I was learning everything step by step and now I plan to pivot my carrer from web to game development in the future, so I really am thankful for these contents and materials available...😃

awesome video and More of these please ! Edit i found the unity mix that has more, how ever i want to give some new person feed back, Reasons why i have a hard time getting into programing, There is so many ways to make something work. I like that how ever i get hooked on well i did it this way but i seen a tutorial that says not to do it that way or there is a faster way. so i keep changing one thing and get stuck on one thing for a long time then i get a feeling no matter what i do i am wasting time. Another thing is most tutorials i see Never explain why doing something in a specific way is better for the type of system. example this ability system using built in systems vs using say like scriptiable objects or something else.. I hope you can understand what i am saying as i am a noob and not sure how to explain it right. Again thanks for your time and support you guys rock.

I think it's good to always be looking to improve things but I also think that it's important to not get caught in a perfectionism loop and to just call something good enough for a time so that you can get on with the project. If it starts causing problems down the line you can fix it but the important thing is to get progress done, and once to you get to a certain level you can of course go back and improve on things. That's just my thoughts though, I'm not very experienced

Creating abilities as components is a good way to learn. But if you plan on adding a lot of them, it's a good idea to learn how to use ScriptableObjects and make the abilities that way. Then you can have sort of a character sheet that keeps track of which abilities you have and you can inspect them without having to find the player in the scene.
@mandisaw
@mandisaw 4 жыл бұрын
Yeah, this is more of a beginner-friendly, strictly for prototyping setup. It's good for a quick survey of which systems are used to accomplish which features though.
@GIAGreenFire
@GIAGreenFire 4 жыл бұрын
@@mandisaw Yea it's definitely easy to start out with. It's how I setup the abilities in the Bawl Physics asset too. That was before I learned to take advantage of ScriptableObjects. Either way though, it's way better than making a single spaghetti-code script that contains every ability in the game (that's what I did in the first version of Bawl Physics, ew).
@mandisaw
@mandisaw 4 жыл бұрын
@@GIAGreenFire Oh, that would be painful... I'm doing a tactical RPG - probably hundreds of abilities when all's said & done. I'll be managing it with a factory, ScriptableObject, MonoBehaviour wrapper, and a database. "All-in-one" Godzilla-like class ain't gonna cut it LOL

There are thousands of videos and projects like this. Id like to see more intermediate tutorials and videos. Netcode, Kinematica, ECS, the new UI, stuff put together in a meaningful way. I've seen all the available videos on the above but I'd like some aspects of them dumbed down a bit. Not to beginner level. Just ... maybe a bit more detail.
@TedThomasTT

@aleef1735
@aleef1735 4 жыл бұрын
Just to make things clear, I'm not ungrateful for the work you guys put into these tutorials. They're clear and nicely done. I feel like there's a big gap in support material for anyone that is beyond the complete beginner level but not quite good enough to get into more advanced issues. I'm spending months trying to figure out things that could be explained in a 15 min video. And I do understand that it's not your job to hold my hand all the way from beginner to game developer but think about how many people start working with Unity excited about the ideas they've had for years only to spend a few months in it until they realize there's no way you can actually put those ideas in practice on your own. I feel like a bit more attention to those individuals would retain a lot more people on their path to develop their dream game. Sry for the rant.

Is there a sample UI to allow the player customization of input with the new system? Removing the old input dialog was a bad thing for most prototypes and simpler games =/ Some controllers are not assigned with the id 0, it would be great having something pre made for this.

Nice video but the download project is needlessly large. Its 650MB, yet 400MB of that is the project Library folder which is not required ( as long as you have meta files ). It also comes with the git folder another 110MB that is rather pointless. If you stripped these out the download would be around 110MB. Though overall I would have prefered a link to the git project since that way it could be maintained over time and have the ability for community based improvments or modifications.
