Amber I can understand why addicts get scared ,I know a person that went to one that claimed to be the best .they looked like they were dead while going through detox throwing up non stop no sleep they were coming off prescription meds Ambien Klonopin opiate's several depression meds. made it through detox listening to their Christian music and talking with others in same shape .but when got to the rehab they took their only way to listen to their music ,2nd week still couldn't sleep or keep no foods or fluids down,so these people are bad physically and emotionally sick but yet they are made to keep participating in meetings all day long ,this is wrong their should be medical Drs there to care for them maybe like hospital put iv in to get their nutrition in them and do a slow ween off meds .the young person I'm talking about told them felt like was dieing chest pains etc and ask them to please call ambulance yet they refused thinking it was a way the person thought the Dr give them something but finally someone called ambulance this made the rehab so mad they told the person they couldn't come back in after a few hrs they finally did return their personal belongings pH debit card clothes ,left outside in heat for hrs finally walked long way found a store and that had money on the debit card so was able to get a Uber to get them to the airport. I researched found where they had did others that way and others had no money so it was couple days untill some one drive and got them ,I can't imagine leaving a person who is physically and mentally sick throwed out in middle of nowhere without no money or resources . The trauma this caused this person only caused more harm . it's hard to find a place that is really caring mist are only out for money . I did look up something few weeks ago I think it's called Dr weismann medical detox done safe in hospital then a rehab that has a lot of other things caring for individual mental and physical health.. but it's for rich people . Like I said that rehab almost let this person die I never seen a person look so bad in a matter of few weeks. it's really sad that people don't know or care enough to have the best treatment for anyone suffering with addiction.. it's sad that people will have pity or compassion for people with other disease but treat these people as if they are worthless to the human race. God is close to the Broken and he sees how people are mistreating them expecially the ones on the streets that people make fun of and pass them by when they hadn't eaten in days.

Wonderful message. I sobered up at a recovery house that runs EXACTLY like you discribe. All but the cooking part. It took a while for me to realize that alcohol wasn't the problem. It was my solution to the problems I didn't even realize I had. It was the staff, the other clients and the alumni that gave me humility. No I can give back what was freely given to me.

I like the idea of treatment graduates sticking around to mentor others and share their hard won knowledge with the newest members.

I think one of the problems is that lots of people are overly attached to the idea that what every person entering a treatment center deserves to start the process by listening to a strong moral scolding. However, as you say, that is not productive or helpful for everyone.

I have a question: have you any videos on others sabotaging their peers recovery by bringing drugs/alcohol in treatment? This has happened too many times and I want to do a group workshop on this same topic. Any ideas please Amber or anyone here. Much appreciated. Btw. You are looking prettier and prettier each video. 🥰

My SO is home now after 8 months in a long term rehab. He appears traumatized. For example, he now keeps the same pack of crackers by his bed because he says he didn’t have anything but a pack of crackers for the first three days at rehab. He keeps saying he didn’t realize he was in a homeless shelter. But as far as I know, he was not in a homeless shelter. I did not pick the rehab, and there was no family plan for recovery so I’m just confused and not sure if this is the truth or something along the line of a guilt trip or something. I show him compassion and let him voice anything that he needs to speak and just actively listen. But most days he seems to stay in his head and is silent. Idk what to do or how to help him.

Do you use the knowledge of reticular activating system in your work. I just learned about this fascinating ability of the brain. 😊

Yes, I'm a big believer in the RAS and practicing intentionality, but I don't have a video on RAS specifically. Thank you for the great topic suggestion. I'm putting this on my list!
