WHAT IF THEY NAME THE KING OF SPADES FIRST??? I'm so sorry I forgot to mention that in the tutorial. When they do that, I count the 3 cards as 4 one last time, and then slowly put the 'four cards' in their hands, and ask them to shake the cards towards my pocket...and remove the King of Spades. And when they find there are only 3 Kings in their hands - always a strong reaction.

SankeyMagic If someone chooses the King of Spades, I actually think that would be MORE magical. Here’s how/why: I would say, “Oh. I thought you would say the King of Hearts. You see, I was so sure, that I’ve got 4 of them.” Go through the rest of the routine...with the changes being magical moments. Then put the “4” cards in their hands. You say, “Now, you chose the King of Spades, right?” (Audience management here - don’t let them change their mind. Don’t ask what they chose - remind them what they chose.) When they confirm their choice, have them open their hands. They think it’ll be four King of Spades. They’ll already be in the “no way” mindset. But now there are THREE cards! No King of Spades. Then you show your hands empty, reach into your pocket and produce the card they selected. It will seem as if the same would’ve happened if they chose any other King. And instead of your pocket, maybe you could have the King show up in another “impossible” location. There are lots of possibilities for adaptation to what they choose and their surroundings with this one!

Isn't there a way to start with all 4 cards, then either palm, or better yet mercury fold the spades and maybe secretly put that card on them (this way they know you're actually have all 4 cards), then you do the trick as shown in the video. If they name the spades first, say something like "Everyone always wants the spades, well I like to end on the spades, so let's pick hearts first" then you don't have to do any other fidgeting. When you put the 3 (as 4) cards in their hand, you can do your magic gesture and reveal that the spades is the one card that has disappeared, and then reveal it on them, or folded and in some other impossible place. I'm nowhere near that good, but I think Jay is.

I'm a retired I.T. specialist, and over the years i develloped RSI problems in my hands...After i retired i had lots of free time and took on card magic (i stumbled upon a cardtrick from you on youtube that inspired me to do so). I always have been a creative person, certainly to find solutions on all sorts of problems... So i definitaly would like to have a better sleight of hands despide my RSI problems. Keep up the good work !

Amazing routine😀simply amazing... can't wait to perform it... Thanks J. Btw, I'd like to be better at sleight of hand since I personally believe true magic comes from your bare hands for your audience, I mean when you have gimmicks and that stuff it's ok, but when the your skilled enough to perform magic with anything at hand, that is for me "true magic"... when it comes from bare hands, out of nowhere.😊Thanks for your constant effort and contribution to Magic, Jay. I'd be glad to meet you someday.

Keep these great tricks coming. For your question... I would rather be better at slight of hand. My main reason for saying this is that it is very hard to do slight of hand while wearing winter gloves. As I am sure you can imagine. Those gloves make it difficult to hide any breaks or passes. On top of that if I cannot find my gloves and have to wear mittens, it is pretty much impossible to do any sort of slight of hand. With mittens it is very convincing since the audience never can see the move I am making but in reality the cards never get adjusted since my moves are inside the mitten. I hope this adequately explains why I would rather be better at slight of hand! :)

I’m just impressed with performing cards when it’s windy. I live in Chicago and it’s a pain during the fall season. I love effects like this because it’s simple, there’s not a deck where a lot is going on. It’s visual and easy to comprehend. Definitely adding to my repertoire.

Entertaining. Engaging your audience enables people to connect with you (and you to them). Laughter distraction is so powerful. Sometimes the comedy takes over the magic. Don't fret .. just run with it. While they are all laughing, set up the next phase, and slide it in. They will remember the laughter, as well as the magic.

Definitely more entertaining, I have quite good sleight of hand technique but am terribly shy, I don't have a lot of confidence in a crowd and currently wouldn't dare expose my sleight of hand card tricks in public, the fear of flashing or being so nervous that I would make a mistake, so I would definitely choose entertaining as a good entertainer is comfortable in front of an audience or a group of people. I tense up and hold cards to tight to do sleights whenever someone is watching. Thanks for the contest.

Great trick! It's very similar to the mechanics of the three card monte routine. If I had to pick which to improve on, it'd be my creativity. Sleight of hand can always be learned if you put in the time to practice. Being entertaining, albeit harder to learn, can still be practiced. You can't really teach creativity. It's something that others just have. It would also come in handy in music, as I like to play guitar and write my own stuff sometimes!

Amazing! 🤯 I would want to be better at slide of hand. The reason for this is because there are many many card tricks/illusions that are powerful enough alone that they can be done even if you are not an outgoing or very social person. I am somewhat of an introvert, (hard to make friends) but doing Card tricks and minor little magic tricks have sort of bridged me into a new confidence that allows me to talk to people. That’s important in life (to have friends) and hopefully I will continue to breakdown barriers that hold me back. Using magic tricks, esp. card tricks, I overcome the anxiety that prevents me from socializing as a normal person. I think a lot of ppl have this problem. That’s why when I see ppl like me I can talk to them and even share this method with them. I have given away several decks of cards away to ppl who were too shy to talk to me. Someone like me who is shy or has a hard time fitting in may not engage with me if I approach them but would still allow me to do one trick for them. That’s all I need. Then before you know it we start talking and might even have something in common. Short answer: Slide of hand would help me make friends. Thank you!!!

Jay, amazing video, and I do agree that the outdoors is better, of course it was really windy, but you stuck it out. On to answer your Question of the Week. There is a way to become better at all three. I would first start at being more creative with the presentation of the card tricks I do perform. Not only being more creative in performing card tricks but in any information I may present for my career, make it fun and engaging. I am more of a technical person, so becoming more creative will take some work and will definitely put me out of my comfort zone. While becoming more creative, this will lead into becoming more entertaining. I feel that the two actually go hand-in-hand. An entertainer can also be creative at the same time. They have to come up with ways to keep an audience engaged, and sometimes it is on the fly. All the while one is working on becoming a more creative entertainer, they can also work on their slight skills. The creative entertainer would be able to misdirect, or even cover up the under performed slight, that would have potentially been noticed otherwise without their creative entertaining.

Cool trick. Deceptive handling. Multiple moments of magic that defy its apparent simplicity. Nicely done. Thanks for sharing. Regarding your question: I would rather be more creative - for a variety of reasons. I think creativity can bleed over into almost any area of life - not just in magic or performing or art. In magic, if you’re more creative, you might be able to get the same reaction/results from a creative means as you would with sleight of hand skills. Or...enhance the results, (make them more baffling), by combining creativity with sleight of hand. (To my first point, think of things like the Invisible Deck, virtually eliminating sleight of hand via creative means. To my second point, think of things like expanded shells; which, when combined with sleight of hand, truly allow for the impossible to occur.) If I’m creative outside of magic, say in a corporate office setting, I may come up with process improvements that result in promotions. So, yeah, of the three options, no matter the situation, I’d opt to be more naturally creative.

I have been a part time musician for 40 years and made really nice strides in entertainment so I already know how to be entertaining. I am an engineer by trade and I think like one lol. I'd really like to learn more and be able to create illusion devices. Creative! I am decent at slight of hand and pretty entertaining (to other ppl at least) but where I find most trouble is creating my own moves tricks or routines there are so many tricks that are awesome but when I find out the secret I’m always afraid it won’t be as good because it is simple. Which I know I’m so wrong about that because I still get great reactions on old tricks that can’t believe still work but it’s just all in my head I guess but I would really like to have things that are mine that only I know and I feel like I could mistify so much better! And take great tricks that I know or learn and up them to unbelievable heights and then I would have something awesome of my own to be able to contribute back to Magic and share with other Magicians

Hi Jay, I would rather be better at sleight of hand. Being I'm older I have no problem entertaining and I'm pretty creative. I started magic back when I was seven until I was about 18. Then life happened and Magic kind of was put on the back burner. Fast forward 30 years later, getting back into magic pretty heavily, now there is the internet and all these tutorials and ways to see what is really out there. We didn't have that 30 years ago. So, sleight-of-hand is not as easy as it used to be. P.S. As Michael mentioned earlier, what do you do when the spectators first guess is the Ace of Spades?

Sleight of hand for me since entertainment and the ability to be more creative opens up if I can do the tricks much better :)

Always want to be more creative - useful for artistic hobbies like writing, painting, acting, and sculpting but also for everyday situations and problem solving. Creativity is something that can’t be taught either. Sleight of hand can be learnt and practised and perfected and being entertaining is important and impressive but isn’t crucial for everyone. Whereas if people were more creative then the world would be a better place, not least because of the abundance of art and poetry, but because people would be able to think more creatively which could fuel science and technology as well.

Well in my opinion, it would definitely be the 3rd option, "to be better at sleight of hand", and this is because nowadays, everyone is able to find out how a simple magic trick is done, but when magic is performed in a beautiful way, such as sleight of hand, it takes performances to a new profound level.

I would want to be better at sleight of hand, I think the first two come with experience but sleight of hand helps me talk to people when I do magic tricks :)

I'm a new subscriber, new at learning as much magic as I can and am addicted to being as creative as possible, so I would like to learn MORE about being creative in ways that 😶 people 😄👍. When I was a gymnast (3yrs training with Karolyi for the '88 Olympics till injury ended that dream forever-BUT, it didn't stop me!), my favorite moves/tricks would leave people wondering HOW did she DO that?!?? A full spin on one leg directly into a "full twisting back flip", on the beam. THAT was my favorite one 😜👍. But now 47yrs old and living with MS-my balance may be forever gone, but my wish to continue making people smile (and then have to pick their jaws off the floor 😄😜) will never end. Art has always been my fallback (I enjoy Salvador Dali for HIS creativity in that!) , but MAGIC is my new love and would really appreciate any tips on how to get even MORE creative! ThanQ for your wonderful channel, your inspiring MAGIC(!) and the smile you bring out in me when I watch your videos 😁. 🙌❗👍💜😊❗🙌

Great trick! I would rather be more entertaining as a magician . As a kid I feel that sometimes I’m not the best at entertaining while performing my tricks and am trying to get better.

Thank you sir for this powerful magic..I think I would like to be more creative so I can come up with tricks that don't require sleight of hand because I suck at it but I do enjoy learning it even if I can't do it...but that sounds more like I should like to be better at sleight of hand..hmm

Slight of hand for me all the way. I'm a straight up rank beginner at this and my slight of hand game is practically nil... I like your trick and will work at this one. My double lift really sucks at the moment though.😌

more entertaining. slights are sometimes just for me or to impress my magic buddies. creativity has always been a strong suit for me, but again if you create a real fooler with a boring plot and a climax that falls flat, does it matter whether you created something new? when I am "on" I can have them rolling with laughter and amazed by my magic with just a couple rubber bands and a quarter. Entertainment is the reason that the art still survives.

I would love to improve my sleights. But I need to train myself to practice more as I am sometimes too impatient. I also need to make my hands grow larger as I do find that small hands can be an impediment to success. Is there a magic formula to increase my hand size? I’m 72, so it’s nothing to do with being a child.

Hey Jay;) I think I'd go with more creative, I would love to make tricks like you:) I do a ton of music, so I'd say that really putting a part of yourself into whatever it is you are passionate about is really important.

I would love to be more creative as I am confident with my entertainment, a bit less confident with slights. But I can do enough for the mentalism that I do (allot I have learned from you - so thanks allot 😁). But yeah I would love to be more creative to put my own routines together and maybe one day, a stage show! Thanks again Jay🙂

I would choose to be better at sleight of hand. The reason for my choice is quite obvious; as I started with magic just five month ago I have to improve my sleights a lot in order to fool anybody with them. When performing mathematical or self-working tricks, I get quite good reactions. As a high school teacher I'm used to speak in front of an audience and keep them interested, but when using sleight of hand I'm flashing way too often.

I would rather be more creative girl magician because I have some ideas on some deck designs but I just wish I had more creativity for it and be more creative as a person as well. Because I feel like im already entertaining i would just love to be more creative towards conversations and such. I'm really shy and nervous when I'm out with others. Much love to your channel! ❤❤❤
