Here is a simple hack i used to make my unit work more efficient in those 100 degree plus days at the beach. helps keep the RV cooler inside and keeps the a/c unit from transferring outside heat into the a/c unit. my rv has mach 3 colemans. May work on many other RV's
here is a amazon link to the insulation i used this roll is large enough to do a few a/c unit's
roll insulation amzn.to/2XemL7D
foil tape for sealing amzn.to/3pLMFvH

As an RV tech who cleans his AC 2-3 times per year there is no way I want to retape the Reflex after ever cleaning. I could see attaching the Reflex under the cover to reflect heat away from the unit.

I’m thinking about wrapping the cover over the top and leaving enough out to the sides for the vents to be open and create a shade area. Reflecting the sun completely off the cover.

As someone who has cleaned my coleman ac many times. I will never open it again. Nu-calgon makes a no rinse version that can be used from the inside of the rv w some patience and by removing the 4 screw plastic cover

It’s 114 today and I’m thinking about doing this to my Coleman. But my idea is to wrap the plastic cover (not the vents) to keep the heat off the cover.

I would check your registers. They seem to be the worst at being taped off properly. We were having a huge problem with the return air pulling in already conditioned air causing it to shut down sooner.

I need to do that.

So how has this been working for you? Any issues? Is it keeping things cooler?

Any follow-up comments? Have you actually experienced improved cooling or lessened power draw?

Can’t imagine how this reduced his current draw. Would have been awesome to see measured differences. Before and after.

No if anything it will have a higher power draw because the air conditioner is now trying to fight through that insulation that he put around it

Except that he didn’t cover where it draws in the air. 😮

Because he states he has 3 ACs and want to make them more efficient so he only has to run 2 of them.

It's already insulated on the inside.

some units don't have much if any and extra never hurts

Does the additional insulation really make a difference?

Good idea poor execution, 1. Trapped moisture between the box and reflectix. 2. Needs to be removed, maybe for some service, most access this part from inside the RV 3. Air is your friend Solution Remove from box Add rubber spacers to where bolts go Add chicken wire to metal box.. taped down in strategic locations Add reflectix to cover instead, do not block vents This fixes radiating heat as well as heat transfer, you need gaps the chicken wire forces gaps If not thick enough some other type A plastic 3d printed chicken wire should work even better Just my 2 cents as I am going try this myself.. But great effort You had the parts of a good idea... lol

So you're saying to take chicken wire and put it over the metal housing where he put the reflectix and then put the reflectics on top of the chicken wire. Correct? Once that is all taped down won't you have the same problem of moisture retention between the metal box and the reflectics?
