I start with a wide grip and a slight lean. I then go with 2-3 finger narrower grip on each subsequent set, usually 6 sets total. The lean also has straightened out by the final two sets with the narrower grip widths. Controlling the ecentric I have found gives me the best growth stimulus, too.

3 Qs 1) How would you calibrate isolateral variations? Cable, machine, or most challenging the ring pullups. 2) In pursuit of full ROM benefits, opinion on the alternating rocking pulldown? 3) If I cant touch my chest after the first 2-3 reps, should I simply drop the weight? Balancing big loaded eccentric stretch with power curve limitations at the bottom.

Then try and do them much more upright (as if you were doing pull-ups!) and probably reduce weight. Concentrate on full range of movement and slow and controlled eccentric. I bet that makes you feel the lats much more. I think people get into the habit of just going too heavy, make the sets too quick and with poor form. Slow them down and control them. Sorry if I’m wrong, just trying to help 💪🏻
