You'd be surprised how many people ask what seems to be simple. That's why we approached this video from a "beginners" view but then covered a lot of areas that go beyond just the basics. If we jumped right into more advanced steps, I'd be getting a lot of questions on the stuff we left out :)

It depends on the PC you have. If you have an HP and haven't removed the Recovery partition on the hard drive (or if you have recovery discs), you can run a system recovery to put your PC back to how it was when it first shipped from the factory.

Another thing to try could be raising the priority in your game processes in Task Manager. Start one game Open Task Manager and go to the processes tab. Find the process associated with your game. Right-click it and select "Set priority", then raise the priority of your task to high (it'll probably be on normal). See if that improves performance for that game.

Are you talking about the Power Management settings? If so, click Start, and then search on "power management". Select the Power Options result, and then you can change the settings from there. Typically the factory default is "Balanced" or a similar named plan (may vary depending on the PC).

Panther is a Microsoft folder that holds setup files, usually gathers more files when you update or upgrade your operating system. To learn more about it, google "Panther directory windows". Sometimes it's ok to remove, but refer to the info you find out about it before removing it.

We mention all of those options in the video except using cccleaner, which I have seen cause many other problems for PCs. Registry cleaners are a big risk as they can remove entries that your PC or software needs. It's better to know what you are removing before removing it.

They can use the recovery partition to run recovery if they haven't created discs. You can also order recovery discs from HP if you weren't able to create your own.

One thing you can do to increase the internet speed is to turn off things like "Add-ons" in your browser. For example, go to Internet Explorer and run it in "without Add-on" mode. The fewer things your browser is doing, the faster it will load web pages.

That means your Recovery partition is running low on disc space. This is generally the result of adding, saving, or backing up files to that partition. The Recovery Partition is only supposed to be used for running a system recovery and holding all the files necessary for that. If you have saved any personal files or installed software to that partition, remove them and then the red warning will go away.

When you are on your KZbin Inbox, there is a button at the top of the screen that says "Settings". Click that, and then on the left, select "Privacy". Then remove the check next to "Allow only my contacts to send me messages and share videos".

Regarding Tim's remarks, when you get a new HP PC, the primary hard drive will have another partition called "HP Recovery" or similar. This partition is only to be used for running HP System Recovery or to create HP System Recovery media. The reason this drive "turns red" when you look at it in Windows, is because someone added files to that partition and it filled up the little room that was left on the partition. Windows colors it red to indicate that the drive is low on disk space.

It may be that your games require specific settings for resolution. Look at your game specifications and then put your PC settings to match those. I'm not sure if you removed unused files or not, but depending on what you removed, there may have been a file used by a game that could also contribute to this. For some games, if you want to use the full resolution without a lag, you may have to add more memory. Some games just demand more processing power.
@HPComputingSupport

It can depend on your network device and network, but in general I would say no. The Diagnostic Startup is best for troubleshooting to find what software or services may be slowing down the PC. There are some services for networking/internet that are needed to allow your PC to connect to a network.
@HPComputingSupport
@HPComputingSupport 11 жыл бұрын
Have you tried changing settings in the game? If the lag occurs in some games more than others, you can generally fix that by changing the game options/settings.
@HPComputingSupport

Good tips. One thing I would caution is using registry cleaners. I've seen many times where people cause serious issues by removing registry values with cleaner tools. If you are going to use registry cleaning tools, make sure you know what you are doing with them and don't remove values or keys that are actually in use or shared by software on your PC.

You'd be surprised at how much resources active backgrounds and photo wallpapers can use. Changing the background to a simple color is a way to give your PC more resources. Some people want every little bit of resources they can get.
@HPComputingSupport

Check Task Manager when it starts to lag to see if there is a process running taking up a lot of resources. You may also want to check your network as the lag could be occurring there too if you are playing online. Minecraft is known to use a lot of resources, which could lead to a lag. If you look in the Minecraft forums, you may find some tips to help with this issue.

Sorry to hear about the performance issues with your PC. Have you researched the beta software or other software you have installed to look for any known issues? The features you mention that we discussed in the video are basic Microsoft Windows functions and shouldn't cause the PC to become unstable. The software you are using may clash with these settings though. Try uninstalling the software that has issues with these settings, then change the settings back, and then reinstall the software.

I agree about the use of cleaners. We also recommend to customers that insist on using them if they are the type that want to run all the time. Unisntall them after the cleanup. Why leave a utility that you do not need all the time running.
@HPComputingSupport

Well, the answer to those questions is ultimately up to you. The debug dump files and system error dump files are used to tell you what happened when your PC crashed, software didn't work, etc....if you haven't had any real issues with your software and aren't trying to troubleshoot what went wrong, then those dump files aren't necessary. They are used for people that can understand them and interpret what happened when the PC had a failure.

Because gaming and KZbin use a lot of resources, particularly if you are playing an online game. Essentially your PC is having to process a lot of audio and video rendering at the same time, as well as using the network. Gaming alone can use a lot of resources, so adding online music and video (KZbin is a video site) makes your PC have to work even harder, which slows it's overall performance.

I wonder if this is because you have an "Add-on" that is causing this. Add ons are things like new toolbars. Try running Internet Explorer without Add-ons. You can right-click the IE icon on your desktop and select Start without Add-ons, or you can browse to this version of IE: Start> Programs> Accessories> System tools> Internet Explorer (no add-ons)

Thanks for watching. If you don't have a true failure occurring, which is often the case with performance, you won't have an event log entry to work from. Sure, if there is a constant process failing or taxing the system, the event log will help. But if you are just looking to get all you can out of your video processing resources, the event log won't help. Many gamers and others do these steps when they first turn on the PC.

It sounds like the problem is with how Minecraft is working with your PC graphics. The frame rates are mostly based on how your graphics card capabilities and settings interact with the game settings. Try to look in your graphics properties (you can usually access them from an icon in the system tray by the clock, or you can find them in the Windows Control Panel). In the graphics properties, there may be different modes for you to select or settings you can change to increase the performance.

Hmmm...I just checked the specs for the XCOM, and you should be ok from what I can tell. I can't see why these changes would make the games lag, unless there is something like a graphics acceleration setting that was changed when you adjusted the performance settings.Try changing those same setting back and see if the problems persist.

It sounds like the system restore may have uninstalled the drivers for your new card. Try downloading and installing the latest drivers for your new video card. Also, it's possible the computer started running poorly after adding the new video card because the card needs more power. Often when upgrading the video, you need to make sure the power supply can push that extra power to the card without limiting the power it uses on the other components.

This video explains how to speed up the computer without adding memory, but we also have videos on our channel about how to increase memory. I would link you to the videos, but KZbin doesn't allow links in comments. If you go to our channel, you can find them in the playlists. Increasing internet speed is tricky because it involves the speed your internet service provider gives you. You can't make the internet faster than the speeds provided by the ISP.

Those are decent specs, but it really depends on the game and the level of performance you want. For example, Crysis 3 base specs look for a quad core processor with 4GB memory, but the High Performance settings for the game require using the latest quad processors and 8GB memory. So you can see there can be some differences in the game play based on your computer specs. What games are you having issues with?

Also, if making changes to the graphics doesn't help, I'd post on Minecraft's forums looking from tips from other users. I just looked there and saw a lot of people asking about how to improve the frame rates for the game, so this seems like it could be fairly common issue for the game. To see if it is just this game, try using another computer game and see how it performs.

It sounds like digital rights management on the movies, or it could be a setting in the burning software. It could also be the way you are burning the discs or even the format of the video files or structure of folders on the disc. What kind of video files are you using and how are you burning them to DVD? The more I know, the better I can think of an answer.

Did you try "Diagnostic" or Selective Startup? I've never heard of msconfig completely stopping a PC from starting, as it's more related to what runs in the background once the PC boots to Windows.
