I know I said I’d never go into a talc mine, but here I am. Not on my property but not unreasonably far away. And in here for good reason to be announced later!

From what you've shown is looks like this mine has been spared the vandals that got to yours.

Thanks for taking us along. The crazy thing is to think when and how all this work was done. By hand. One day going to make the trip and ask for the tour of your place.

That Lagunitas bottle you found isn't old at all, maybe 2-5 years old. One of my favorite beers actually. They don't have the pin-up girl in the branding anymore, so that one there is now a relic.

Nice adventure. For some reason I was concerned for your safety in a “foreign “ mine even though you weren’t alone

# 3 I wonder how many years it took to dig that tunnel. Picks shovels and Dy - No - Mite. Pretty darn brave - or dumb - to go that far in, but some great frame work to support part of the mine.

I'm surprised you did not wear some form of mask in that talc mine. The fine particulate dust flying all about you is not lung friendly to say nothing of the possible presence of asbestos in one or all of it's three forms, chrysotile, tremolite or anthophylite. Please be safe. These mines are fascinating but some of them are a little to eager to fulfill that song you were singing, "So many dumb ways to die."

I would be VERY cautious about entring a talc (aka soapstone aka steatite) mine because a common contaminant in talc is asbestos and you can't tell how much unless you have it tested at a lab. That is why corn starch has replaced talc in baby and body powder even though it is inferior. Companies don't want the liability or accusations of cusing lung cancer or asbestiosis. At a minimum I would wear a good respirator and new filters in a talc mine. There is a significant chance that this mine was abandoned was the asbestos level in the rock.

Yes, so true.

Talc is also very unstable. It will cave in quicker than rock or other minerals.

husband speaking - following Sarah since 2018, Have you seen the ads for the O light ? Used by What The Hales channel. Very bright, a little $ but would be great for crawling thru dark mines.

I was wondering, do you have to do anything special to your prosthetic leg to protect it from the dust/grit that has to be getting into the joints ?

I grew up in SB County, lots of old mines. Scrappers died all the time trying to pull stuff out. I occasionally watch videos of people exploring. Dangerous hobby ~ sounds like you have some knowledge of the engineering. Touching that stick of dynamite was a bad idea. Talc mines are a no go ~ You should have had a respirator and at least given a safety talk. You didn’t get killed, but some kid watching this might decide to give it a try.
