@Oreom I think the accuracy of the ballistics in the movie is open to question, but there's a clear setup when Yuri describes dumdums as 'the bullets that make the head explode'. The implication later is that after Harry shoots you-know-who towards the end of the film, had he not been using that type of bullet the victim might still have been recognisable as a you-know-what rather than what Harry thinks he is. What Harry thinks he is leads Harry to follow his own code regarding what he would do if he ever shot a you-know-what. Of course, if you haven't seem the film then my attempts to avoid spoilers will have rendered the above absolute gibberish. :)

Dumdums are a type of "expanding" bullet designed to increase the size of wounds and cause more injury at the expense of penetration. This film script really is the best. Some film makers forget the importance of a good script and make do with lots of improv, which doesn’t always work that well (e.g. Joanna Hogg's Archipelago, which is a stinker of a movie cos most of it seems to be either improv or written so that it feels like improv). In Bruges on the other hand is a masterwork. These short scenes are really something else. Even the studied reaction of Yuri when he learns about nooks and crannies.

Just for the gun nerds, when Harry says "An Uzi!?..." the camera shot focuses in on one of the guns on the table. A Steyr TMP. What's interesting is that not only is this not an Uzi, but half cut-off in the same shot is an actual full-size Uzi. I'm not sure why this happens, I can only assume that shot was directed by somebody who doesn't know their firearms that well, but that the armourer read the script and deliberately included an Uzi for this line.
@danielcardiff3861 Жыл бұрын
My guess is that they shot Harry's reaction but later on decided on an insert so the person shooting the shot was possibly told 'focus on the machine guns' or something like that and the cinematographer did just that.
