The Hidden blade is the most popular weapon associated with the assassins from assassin's creed. Most people criticise it for not being a useful or strategic weapon. But i am here to simp for it.

In my opinion the most useful aspect of the Hidden Blade (besides being hidden) is that when in combat the weapon is untrained for. Meaning, enemies are well trained on combat against swords, lances, maces etc. but a hidden blade is like fighting a double bladed lightsaber for the first time; you just simply didn't see it coming. And that's a feature that remains throughout the ages.

@agx8447
@agx8447 21 күн бұрын
That’s definitely not the most useful aspect. The hidden blade could have legitimate applications in terms of stealth, but irl it would be nearly completely pointless in a proper fight because the reach is barely even more than your own finger. Someone who’s even just somewhat trained in fighting would probably beat a hidden blade user with something as simple as a dagger like 4 times out of 5. People nowadays vastly underestimate the value of range in a fight due to Hollywood portraying shorter weapons much more frequently than longer ones. You see main characters with swords all the time but almost never with spears or longer axes, and since protagonists rarely die it seems to the viewer that the shorter weapon is stronger, or at the very least that reach has no bearing on effectiveness of a weapon. Hidden blades are awesome but would be amongst the worst picks for actual combat.

I don't think the hidden blade is use full in combat at all.......... the game doesn't show it but a real life hidden blade has a very sensitive mechanism which would brake easily in violent combat. It is only useful when people don't see it coming......... and it doesn't have good reach either.

I think a criticism for hidden blade comes from a mission design point. Most of assassinations in these games is a huge air assassination which alerts everyone and follows up with a chase. The Hidden Blade is part of what makes an Assassin an Assassin. Its symbolical depth is similar, to a degree, to a Jedi's Lightsaber or a Samurai's Katana. Without the Hidden Blade, and its meaning, an Assassin would just be a killer. In any case, when it comes to combat many Assassins carry more than one weapon, daggers (speaking of which), swords, maces, axes, spears tomahawks.... It depends on the character and the preferred style of the player.

As for the dude on quora, he has a point. after the first hit, the people know that there is a weapon and would keep their distance. But as you said, the goal is to get in and out while striking once. However, let’s say you do enter combat. if the people are more focused on the hidden blade, then they’re neglecting the actual weapon that you are holding, which means that you have an advantage over them. Now, if they focus on the weapon, then the hidden blade is hidden again and you can use that once you get close. Despite all the adrenaline one gets in a fight, splitting focus between three targets that attack at the same time is impossible for all but the highly, highly trained

I do agree with the philosophical and traditional merits of the hidden blade. As for practicality; first so far, no mainline assassin has actually concealed the blade up their sleeve, and most wear a very ornate and obvious bracer which would draw suspicion almost instantly, and second, Connor's off hand hidden blade dagger is the best of both worlds and really should be what the assassins use. Also there are many places where you can conceal a dagger for a similar effect and murdering someone is not at all subtle, so the best option would surely be something that lets you stab deeper, with more force to guarantee the kill and then split asap would be optimal. Of course I think the hidden blade is a great aesthetic choice for the series and the Assassins have often foregone practicality for the sake of tradition. Al I'm saying is that, if I was in the brotherhood, I'd grab that hidden blade dagger before any cunt hacked off my finger.

Realistically, a concealed, wrist-mounted, double spring-loaded blade mechanism could be created using technology from the modern day and from the past, and it could work well for its intended purpose if the user keeps it in good condition. However, AC does exaggerate its applications and effectiveness beyond low-profile assassinations -- like being able to withstand and penetrate different kinds of armour, being able to withstand impact from multiple angles at different points along the blade instead of just the tip, being able to support the full weight of (at least) one person, and not to mention being practically indestructible outside of prerendered cutscenes. It makes more sense from the perspective of gameplay and how without access to the hidden blade the player is supposed to feel substantially weaker, but it's understandable why some people might not like it. I'm still a simp for the hidden blade tho :D

I’d like to add to the defense of the hidden blade, but in terms of combat: hands. In close quarters combat, it is essential to be able to use your hands, not mainly for striking, but for grappling. For example, jiu-jitsu was developed because throws, holds, and locks were far more effective against heavily armored opponents. Now, imagine that while having a retractable blade that you can use with a flick of the wrist.

I love the points that you made for why the hidden blade is used though it is less effective than something like a dagger. I never considered it myself but it makes perfect sense for the assassins’ philosophy of violence as a last resort, minimizing death and reliance on stealth. The blade is more of a symbol of the brotherhood than a practical tool. I wonder if Ubisoft did this intentionally or if it was a coincidence. Though I do wonder why poison wouldn’t be utilized as much. It’s silent, limited to a specific target, can be administered from a distance and leaves much less of a trace than a stab wound. I heard somewhere that assassins’ robes were originally white to instill fear into their target. If that’s true then it could explain why they used a blade rather than poison because they would want others to know that the target was assassinated. I’m curious to know what others think. I’ve been enjoying your videos by the way and I’m looking forward to more!

I think in a purely realistic sense, the hidden blade doesn't work in a useful way even to the assassins. HOWEVER in the games it clearly doesn't have those drawbacks, thus it is their best choice/tool for those up close kills. Realistically, the mechanism that would engage the blade to kill someone the way they do in game would end up being much louder and difficult to manufacture because its a high power spring loaded blade. Would likely need to be cranked almost like a balista to put back away. The mechanics of the blade in game is a similar amount of force engaging the blade, but also a smooth and easy retraction. I'm not goint to bother theory crafting how it could work like that and how crazy the gear work and other components would need to be in order to avoid accidental engagement when freerunning. At the end of the day its kickass fantasy tech that works and is perfect for its function in its world and I absolutely love it

I'd argue that there is an actual practical use physically that could make the hidden blade more useful than a dagger. The blade is mounted on the forearm. Meaning most of the energy is being outputted from your arm. You wouldn't have to worry about holding a dagger and risk putting unecessary strain on your wrist adding higher chance you can hurt yourself incase of a struggle. Using a dagger would mean you would need to carefully attack in a way that wouldn't hurt your hand or wrist which could result in a more sloppy kill as well as the fact you that you need to aim the knife with your hand rather than using your arm which could be easier to aim with a hidden blade. Think about it, if you want to stab someone head on with a dagger, you need to bent your wrist to hold the knife directly forward causing strain (the same kind of strain a drummer could face when hitting drums) . If you use the arm, just point the arm to whoever you need to stab. I also agree with the stealth mechanic since you would want to draw attention to yourself by obviously reaching for a knife and having to put it away in a crowded area. I get that its easy to pick on the fantasy weapon but honestly just because it's fiction doesn't mean it can't be practical. There have been many fictional inventions in shows and movies that were made in real life because it actually worked such as mobile phones, tablets and Ai. Why can't the hidden blade be?

Fighting is the last resort of an assassin no matter how good they are. That's why the game provides a lot of hiding/blending opportunities to kill the target leave it unnoticed or run and break the line of sight Hide if got spotted. But I can't blame people for thinking Hidden Blade is realistically useless because in almost every Assassin's Creed trailer they showed (except Assassin's Creed 1) The protagonist fights through an army of men by himself,

it also would be beneficial in a fight because no one realy knows how it works or eaven knows about it so it would chatch allot of people of guard as one can see in allot of the trailer for example and since the hidden blade can retract and extend one could just do that thinh one can do with lightsabers that copletley ruins the lore

i never understood how the hidden blade instantly kills someone without them screaming out or anything, when you can also have like a giant fuckin zweihander in like unity, that takes 4-8 hits to kill high level guards. Unless you puncture their lungs or something, but thats only like 1-20th of the animations in most games.

I doubt it, this is feudal Japan(12th-17th century). So no, I don't think they get very advance with hidden blade yet. PS: this period also very near to Ezio timeline. So the most we get is probably double hidden blade with hidden gun.

@@HarfizzThere is no lore I know of that explicitly states when the phantom blade, or pivot blade, was first created Actually, according to the AC Wiki, it states that early designs for the phantom blade were conceived by Leonardo Da Vinci, meaning that it is not inconceivable for the design blueprints to make their way to Japan, and be used by the Japanese Assassins circa 1600 (the speculated time frame for AC Red) meaning it could appear in Red.

The hidden blade is cool it’s iconic it’s like a new weapon never seen before it’s meant to be a fantasy weapon of course it’s not realistic because it doesn’t need to be. The best hidden blade is Connor’s because it uses both the fantasy of the hidden blade and the realism of a dagger

The reduced range of motion associated with having it mounted to your wrist is pretty glaring in terms of versatility, it significantly alters the utility of cutting in favor of stabbing except having it attached to the wrist offers no advantage in the latter regard, so you're sacrificing utility for effectively nothing in return. Even after almost 20 years the hidden blade still offers no advantage over a conventional dagger, assassins have been hiding and deploying them discretely and instantaneously since as long as we've had short blades. Nothing new has been added.
@OtaniNoAsagi
@OtaniNoAsagi 2 ай бұрын
And nothing was taken away. Its job and use is to stab and assassinate and it does just that with no issue and it does slash but most of its uses are to stab. Im pretty sure they werent trying to make daggers obsolete with the design especially when a lot of the assassins also use daggers, and in Connor's case his is both. The blade is a symbol to their unique form of stealth, and their form of mobility they dont have to worry about dropping their blades or being bladeless unless they lose their bracer. They can jump across rooftops without worrying if the dagger on their hip or waist is compromised etc.

I love the hidden blade, and correct me if I'm wrong but, with it being a mechanical device wouldn't it be really dangerous using a weapon that could pop out upon malfunction (in the more modern version that wasn't activated by a string), also what if the device jammed, and then the maintenance I can't imagine trying to get blood out of such a compact device with so many small parts.

People who criticize the hidden blade as a weapon completely misunderstand the hidden blade. It is not a weapon, it is a tool of assassination. It is not meant to be used in combat, that's what swords and daggers are for. The hidden blade is a weapon of justice against people who sit on top of a power structure that concentrates the people's power upward to a select group of privileged elites who will do whatever it takes to make sure that the people's power will never belong to the people again. That the people will always be slaves to these hierarchical institutions of authority that create chaos and oppression for profit and giggles and who see the people as their property, that the people will never have autonomy from governments or capitalism. That' who the hidden blade is meant to be used against.
