OP should of just broke out all the documents that showed theILs that the deed to the house was in her name and that she made the bulk of the money in the house. Exactly! We tell our grandson... "Use Your Words," before getting mad. She kept silent so she could take revenge on them. Yes, they were horrible to her. But had she used "her words" and showed the deed, she could have gotten rid of them ages before, without throwing them in jail. The point should have been to get them out of the house but it wasn't. She's petty. She has, also, set herself up to be sued for a false police report. I'm not sure how the in-laws thought there would be any money after the accident. Hospital bills suck people dry of any cash. That could be easily proved, too.

I think that OP should have immediately let the in-laws know what was what and that there was NO MONEY coming to them from their late son's estate. That he died with no estate, no will, no property, nada. After telling them that flat out, I'd have told them to get lost. The lying to the police was treading on thin ice.
@robingibson6561
@robingibson6561 Жыл бұрын
@@dulcilassI so agree. As soon as they started with their nastiness I would have educated them to the fact that their son left no 'estate', no money and no will. That everything was mine and that I was financially established before we met. And to please pack their sh*t and get out of MY house before I called police to have them removed. I never would have allowed them to think that their son was the provider and that I had to depend on him to keep a roof over my house. The stereotype that a single mother can't support herself and her child(ren) and most find a man to so is overexaggerated and outdated. OP's revenge plan was a bit too elaborate and lying to the police was way too much.

I think her husband would’ve been perfectly fine with what she did, but, she shouldn’t have handled it that way. She let her kids watch their mom be harassed and watch their parents lie about their living situation. If the in-laws were harassing OP the I guarantee that they were harassing her children. She allowed this behavior to go on for the ENTIRETY of her marriage and beyond. That’s what makes her the AH. Watching them have to swallow their pride every time she clapped back following a “my son’s house….” would’ve been a far better punishment
@brobles8888

@@randykincy7954 Wait, to go in and lie about them harassing her the way she did was not cool and broke the 10 commandments and the law. If her husband was in heaven there was no way he would have been proud of her for that. Besides she had them dead to rights on abuse from their actions all while living with her and could have led with that. It wouldn’t have been a lie or sin against God. It would have been the truth because she did have the grounds for a tro based on how they verbally abused her about the inheritance, the medical bills and the living arrangements. So I disagree that her husband would have been ok with her setting up her parents based on a lie that also, turned out to be criminal.

@@brobles8888 I SAID what she did was wrong. But, considering that her husband was ok with lying to his parents for years to make himself look better AND tolerated the harassment that the lie about his financial situation created, I think he would’ve been totally fine with the way she treated his family. What about his previous behavior suggests that he’d expect his wife to stop lying to them just because he died?? He wasn’t some Boy Scout. I felt OP handled the situation badly. She should have been straightforward about being the breadwinner and the house being hers. The in laws were not nice people but they never knew the truth. All the stuff she did seemed wrong and unnecessary. After her husband died, she could have shown financial information proving she was the breadwinner and showing the title of the house showing she is the owner. Then knowing they weren’t getting any inheritance, she could give them the planned money as decided and sent them on their way. At the very least they risked getting in trouble for lying to the police. She did too much unnecessary stuff to get a very spiteful revenge.

No there was no need for OP to proof anything to them. The parents believed what they wanted to believe. They had a relationship with their son and knew what he had and didn't have. Suddenly when he has a woman in his life he now has a house and everything else??? Its obvious who owns these things. I had the same situation with my inlaws. They're son found me with my own house and in the process of buying my car. And their son told them that these things belongs to me and would always refer to it as mine( we weren't married for 6 years) yet his father would borrow my car and he and his daughter had the nerve to tell ppl that it was their son/brothers and that I just put my name on it because I'm forward. (personalized plates). And they would pitch up at my home whenever they wanted and disrespect me. So after they tried to tell them numerous times that it's all mine and them not listening I had enough one day and told them off and chased them off my property and took my car from them. That's when they learned not to mess with me.

ETA except the kids. The In-Laws are simply greedy and despicable. The husband should have been clear with his parents " I'm a bigger gold-digger than her, the house is hers and she earns more than me." OP seriously broke the law, the truth would have gotten them out alot quicker, "I own the house it's a premarital asset, I earned more than him and he left no will, so legally all his assets are mine as his wife." If I had to rank them from biggest to smallest AH: In-laws, OP, Husband. But honestly if the Husband had a better spin non of this would have had happened. He could have cleared up the gold digger accusations before the wedding even happened, nor should he have forced OP to lie about her knowledge.

NTA. Those toxic people had it coming. Elderly doesn't count as aholes are aholes and age should condemn them further for not learning to not be aholes in their lives. They abused OP from the beginning and would throw OP, who had just lost her husband and had serious injuries, out on the street. Toxic as eff as are any ahole commenters who say they should not be treated the same way in return. That they lost their son is irrelevant since OP lost her husband, almost her life and mobility and suffered considerably from her accident and their cruelty. Again, the abusive commenters saying OP went too far, are despicable PoS aholes. Period. OP did nothing to them that they didn't do, or try to do to her, and after all the abuse a restraining order was justified and all her actions did was totally disarm them and prevent them from abusing her and her children further. They deserved all of their consequences and, frankly, I hope karma teaches the abusive ahole commenters the error of their ways, or at least removes them from the company of potential victims

I was persuaded not to call the police that staff who saw one of the incidence would handle it. Long story short. They did it because the police called would give them a bad reputation. And they let this woman stay because she was 76 abd it's below 50 outside. Karma did come back at them. The transitional housing got in trouble for another matter but the woman in question got her just deserts when she tried to play her games after I got my housing. She was wacked with a restraining order. In conclusion elderly or not it doesn't matter and it doesn't for these nasty in laws either.

@c16621
@c16621 Жыл бұрын
Rule #1: a woman should NEVER prop up a man's ego for his benefit. That is for him to do alone. Men also get resentful when women do this. None of this misunderstanding would have happened if you both had been strong and forthright to your in-Laws. However, OP wanted to "prop up" her husband and take the coward's way out, as if it were shameful to raise kids and manage the household. Let us not forget that, a couple hundred year's ago in Europe, butlers (men) did exactly that - run a household for the master of the house. The woman propping up a man's ego by being dishonest is the type of crap that messes men's ego up, makes them entitled, resentful of women and whatnot. To prop up the husband's image in this way meant that you (OP and husband) were BOTH ashamed of his role in the household, enough to send the wrong signals and info to the In-Laws. When people in general stop denigrating homemaking and child rearing, maybe we (in America primarily, where people are devolved and uneducated), as a culture, will have a more educated, balanced and mentally healthy country and society. As it stands today 1 in about 5 or 6 people in America are psychopaths - and psychopathy can be traced back to how children were raised in the home.

I was with OP until she lied to the police. Yes, the in-laws were jerks and deserved to be put in their place; but, OP should not have gone down to their level. What did that teach her kids? I'm glad she got tough and stood her ground but, am disappointed in her final actions.

Maybe the two clowns deserve what they suffered. But all those involved deserve an explanation, those children who lost their father and then BECAME victims, the buyers of the house who did not deserve to solve the mess left by the OP, the poor man who was doing his job. All for her satisfaction.

If OP and her husband hadn't lied to his parents about who the house belonged to and who the main breadwinner was none of that would have happened. And then OP continued to lie and lie to the very end.

Op did what she had to do. They treated her like crap even before they got married so no she was in the right. For doing what she did. They left her no choice

They didn't care about their son, they were just worried about the money. I do think the OP went to far especially for filing a false police report which could of got her in trouble and her kids could of been taken away. Personally I'd of never given them my address. If they insisted I'd of given them a false one and if they followed, go there, or drive around and go to various stores etc for hours. Maybe make so many 'stops' that she lost them or they got bored and stopped following.

Oh what a web we weave when first we practice to deceive. OP should have been upfront from the beginning, BEFORE her partner died, so as to save her from the stress later, and perhaps, OP's partner's parents could have left on amicable terms had they known, and they wouldn't have been left stranded as, perhaps, they wouldn't have tried to bludge in the first place.
