Adeena is an ambitious 18 year old Pakistani girl who loves to read and paint. She detested the idea of Biology until this year, despite being advised to pursue medicine for as long she can remember. However, this year, she came across psychopathy and it left her impressed beyond words. What grabbed her attention was the treatment of psychopaths. Psychopaths have brains different from regular human beings, yet they're judged no differently from a mentally stable criminal. And now here she is, speaking about bringing justice to them in her TEDx talk. Adeena is an ambitious 18-year-old Pakistani girl who loves to read and paint. As a psychopath myself, I can respect what she's saying. However, there are some errors in her logic. On one hand she suggests that we lack the spectrum of emotions and empathy that others have, but then she tries to set up this "think about how they must feel about being judged" standpoint, which is more of an empathic standpoint. Frankly, I don't care whether neurotypicals accept me or not. I don't care what they think or feel. I'm here to advance in my own life, if someone else is bothered by my existence then maybe they shouldn't stand so close to me. I just wanted to point that out.

Actually, there was a scientist (whom I don't remember the name) who was studying psychopaths and discovered he had all the alleles for violence found in psychopaths, came from a family of killers and his brain f-MRIs were worse than imprisoned psychopaths but he never acted out on them bc he was raised in a loving environment and turned out a very smart and decent guy despite being a psychopath with all the genetic components. So instead of labeling every psycho as a killer, this message is actually right, actually be nice to anyone even if they have Antisocial Personality Behavior, and as in any connection, look out for yourself first and foremost. Nice video!

Good comment. Obviously not all psychopaths are going to kill somebody, and some can still make the choice to kill even if they had a loving upbringing, but being nice to everyone you meet can help to reduce the chances of someone with those mental components doing such a thing. At the end of the day though it's obviously still their choice and something they do, if they do kill. But yeah

No, not all psychopaths want to murder people, but it's not because they care. Even Fallon, himself, recounts the story of the trip with his brother to a campsite that would have been especially crazy to go to but Fallon hid the details from his brother - he literally risked their lives without concern - and his brother will no longer speak to him. This is what psychopaths do. You don't know the danger you're in until far in the future, if ever, unless you don't make it. Fallon's piece in The Atlantic from 2013 or 2014. It's lengthy. I spent 7 years with a psychopath. My children and I were placed in danger too many times to count. It's not all they do, that's just the tip of the iceberg, but it speaks to their overall lack of conscience and inability to recognize danger.

As a certified psychopath, I am astonished as how everyone assumes that makes me a danger to society. Psychopathy is on a spectrum. 30+ would be More on the serious side. Personally I aim at 26/27. I am glad this was made to show that not all psychopaths are dangerous. Personally I do have vivid violent thoughts, but I would never hurt others physically. I wouldn’t commit to such things. I believe I’m just like everyone else. I go to college, i work , I socialize with friends. Just like anyone else would. It would be great if we could normalize psychopaths in our society. We only make up 1 percent. That’s mostly due to the fact that most of them are locked up. The ones not already locked up are typically stable in society.

This is honestly a terrible talk and potentially dangerous. As a clinical psychologist, most treatment regarding psychopaths has to deal with their victims. Psychopaths have cognitive empathy, meaning that they realize they are hurting others. This is why they enjoy it. They lack affective empathy so they don’t feel any empathy. The fields of psychology and psychiatry constantly question if this disorder should be in the DSM, since there is no way to treat it. Your claims that they are important to the economy are ludicrous. Some may be successful in finance and business, to the benefit of their pockets or the company but the detriment of people. Think 2008 recession and all the homes people lost. Most importantly, they harm people in social relationships (spouses, children, friends, parents). If you are going to give a TED talk on such a topic, please make sure to do thorough research. Telling people to have empathy for psychopaths is what leaves people vulnerable to years or decades of abuse and mind games at home or at work.

I dated one and figured I should be empathetic and understanding and it was the wrong move. She left me with permanent trust and psychological issues. These people know exactly how to earn your trust, find their way deep into your heart, and then instead of cherishing that like a decent person they use it to tear you apart and they enjoy every second of it. They deserve zero empathy and deserve to be stigmatized in the extreme way that they are.

Your first story is ridiculous. If we had been wronged to an extent that we cared enough to attack someone over something that happened earlier we would not run to hit someone with a glass. We would either walk over calmly, or wait till the other person went outside and attacked them there where it would be easier and with less risk. Your talk encourages the flawed stereotype that so many people have.
