☆-----☆-----☆-----☆-----☆ Description ☆-----☆-----☆-----☆-----☆
In this updated analysis, we specifically critique the actions of a darknet administrator threatening to release buyer addresses to coerce payment from vendors. Such threats demonstrate a profound misunderstanding of legal standards for prosecution, which require concrete evidence beyond mere addresses or accusations. The reliance on these threats highlights a lack of ethical integrity and a misguided belief in the power of intimidation over legal substance.
The historical context of cyber law further undermines the administrator's position. In previous legal proceedings, courts have consistently required substantial evidence linking an individual directly to criminal activities. Mere insinuations or possession of information found on the darknet have not sufficed for convictions, reflecting a judicial acknowledgment of the need for incontrovertible proof. This precedent exposes the futility of the administrator's threats as a legally unsound and ineffective strategy.
Critically, the administrator's approach not only misinterprets legal realities but also erodes the foundational trust within the darknet community. By exploiting fear without a legitimate legal basis, the administrator acts in a manner that is both ethically reprehensible and strategically flawed. This behavior highlights the importance for individuals within these communities to remain informed about their legal protections against such baseless threats.

They knew the BTC halvening was coming up, but once the price started mooning early they pulled the trigger and started the exit

My take on the extortion is that it is a bluff, simply because that is the most self serving logical thing for the admins to do. Whether or not they actually release info, they get the same amount of extortion payments, but releasing info has the potential to inadvertently compromise themselves while painting a massive target on their backs. Their only real leverage gained by actually releasing info is to build reputation as a reputable extortionist, which seems less likely than just lying for free money.

Fuck, this is wild! I thought I had seen a lot, being around since the final days of Silk Road, but I’m still always amazed when something like this happens. What’s the bet this starts a trend? If you’re going to exit scam, why wouldn’t you extort the vendors and customers while you’re at it? There’s numerous reasons that I wouldn’t, but I’m not everyone. In 99% of cases, if you’re exit scamming, you evidently lack integrity. I am just surprised we didn’t see something like this sooner. Once again, people, never trust the ‘auto-encrypt’ feature! I thought everyone had realised that by now - apparently not. PGP really isn’t that difficult, and if you’re not prepared to put in the OPSEC basics, then stick to the street. Or better yet, avoid this word entirely.

From an ‘oh shit, I need to save my own arse’ perspective, saving all of this data makes sense. Most people don’t stand staunch when push comes to shove, and market admins are no different. Said data would be valuable to LE and would serve as a good bargaining chip if they were ever busted. I suppose we should all assume the worst - that the worst will happen, and that all of the people involved have ill-intent. With all of that being said, I am not saying that I necessarily believe that this is the case, just that it would make some sense. Whether they have the data or not, it’s an easy way to extort people. The reality is that this could all simply be a ruse.

I’m gonna be honest, I’ve observed the dark net markets for years (as far back as dream market) and these are my deductions: 1) this market might be full of crap and just greedy Or 2) this market is greedy, incredibly stupid, and is messing with some people they REALLY don’t wanna mess with. So a easy way of filtering the data if u were LE would be to have ppl with something at risk to come forth and pay... those that dont pay likely have good opsec. it makes no financial sense to extort clients rather than sell the market to a competitor or even just keep trading for a month. They also missed out on the obvious NFT icons they could have launched from the pixel pic profiles. So this imo makes no financial sense at all. not to mention should they ever get doxed.... im guesssing we see a big announcement on April fools day or /and rhis is LE having a big giggle.

@@DoingFedTime Exactly. It's not logical for this to be L.E simply because its a waste of time that yields next to nothing. They are out there to make arrests and that's done by covert investigations and staying non detected until enough evidence is gathered to pounce (I know you know this) Its just pointless for L.E to be extorting in this way, as it doesn't lead to anything beneficial and is just pointless loud noise.

Agree with 99% of what you're saying. One thing though. Even IF it's not info that can be used for prosecution, some may not even want to be put on the radar, ya know? That alone may be enough motivation to say screw it, I'd rather pay than risk LE start watching me (assuming it's a bigger vendor, ya know?) It sucks cause I DESPISE the idea of paying this dude anything. Nonetheless, sometimes emotions and pride must be set aside and logic prevail.
@DoingFedTime
@DoingFedTime 4 ай бұрын
I 100% understand that 'risking' it is a deterrence factor for people not paying. I would point out though that it's just purely predicated on fear. If no prosecution can come of it, then there is not an actual threat. When worrying about 'being put on the radar' your opsec should already be tight enough to know what your actual exposure level is, and there should be counters for that. Paying a known liar is a waste of money and time. Use those resources to lock things down, get another drop, clean house, or purchase items that aid in preventative measures.

Of course not. Think realistic man, I am not trying to be mean but so many people don't think logically when panicking. Every single investigation by law enforcement costs money and resources. You can bet there will be hundreds of thousands of piss time personal quantity orders and each one would require an investigation if the goal was to make an arrest. They don't have the time/money/or care about orders like yours when they are no doubt already allocating everything they have to those who will make an investigation worthwhile (by this I am talking about those trafficking/supplying commercial/large commercial quantities. They won't get much government funding the next year if their overall results are pages of prosecutions full of minor charges. Pretty much when the police catch big fish - they get funded more which keeps the higher-ups happy.

Are there not addresses for package delivery in these non-encrypted messages inside Incognito ?
@the_serial_chiller
@the_serial_chiller 4 ай бұрын
Assuming this story is true, there would be delivery addresses there. It’s simply that an address is not enough evidence to establish guilt or anything remotely close to it. This is because anyone can order anything to any address. I’d like to think that people are ordering to drop addresses (ie. not their own address) more often than not. While I’m sure this practice isn’t as common as I would like to believe/it should be, and people are shipping to their own place, there is nothing to worry about so long as you practice good OPSEC. Clean house and be prepared if you are concerned about the data that they may have. If you are ordering to your house, it should already be clean as fuck. At the end of the day, unless there’s other evidence and/or they have been building a case on you, an address wouldn’t even be enough ‘evidence’ to grant a search warrant. If they are building a case on you, you have bigger problems than an address appearing in the leak. At the end of the day, it comes down to plausible deniability. For all we know, that ex that you cheated on ordered the drugs to your place, in the hopes of you getting arrested.

I think the idea is that regardless of whether or not you pay, that information won’t be deleted. So it makes the most sense to just clean your op and do what you need to do. @the_serial_chiller
@the_serial_chiller 4 ай бұрын
@@negrastormentas2865 While I understand what you’re saying, I don’t quite agree. (At least in my country, which shares similar laws and values to the US) they wouldn’t conduct such an operation for long-hanging fruit, and it’s the low-hanging fruit that is most likely to not have PGP encrypted sensitive data themselves. On your other point, all of this information is outdated, so I’d imagine that (theoretically) by the time the data is sent to LE that almost all of the parcels will have been delivered. At that point, it just comes down to OPSEC. If you reuse a burnt address, then you are putting yourself at a far greater risk. It should be assumed any address not properly PGP encrypted is burnt at this point.
