19:52 to answer that question is the mother that she killed is the previous arlechino because of that she does not want to be called father of how she been treat before so she called her self as father that show his children more a fatherly side than mother

So, the reason she says "I will raise you as my child, like a strict and unfeeling 'Father'." is because her old "Mother" from the Orphanage put on a facade of kindness and loving nature, when in reality she was abusing and manipulating the children into killing each other. The same "Mother" said that Arlechinno would "never be fit to be a 'Mother'". And so, when she inherited the orphanage, she decided she would never be like her "Mother". Instead, she will be everything she never could be for the children, a "Father" who appears strict, unfeeling and cold but will obviously treasure the children and give them a proper home. As for her eyes and arms, we don't quite know for certain yet, but it's highly implied that it's related to the 'Crimson Moon' of Khaenri'ah, an ancient civilization that was destroyed and cursed by the Gods. We will be learning more about her soon though!

Correct me if I’m wrong but the old harbinger was working under the fatui organization and the tsaritsa so the orphans killing eachother to death are surely the fatuis methods to pick the strongest of the bunch and as the capitano said when they pardon her and give her the knave title "this legacy of bloodshed are now yours to bear" assuming that it means now alerchino have to preserve the old ways of the orphanage but this time as a father of the house !

​@Makikiku it probably means that she now bears the badge or curse of raising the next knave to take her place via trial by combat to the death. The funny thing is I don't think she wants to die and just let that continue with the children she loves. Which is pretty crazy if you consider they're essentially punishing her to recreate and continue the Mothers cycle for her crime which will be passed down through the inheritors of the title, so she may actually be looking for a loophole that would free the children from that fate. Like an outsider such as the traveler being the one to kill her rather than one of her own children.

Some not so fun "Fun Facts": In CN the "Mother" says that Arlecchino is unfit to be a "Mother", which might be why she chose to be a more stoic "Father". - The Pink Haired Girl is the House Mother's biological daughter, (the flower she was pruning was the same one her daughter wears, she implies that she shouldve killed her daughter way sooner) - Her curse is theorized to be related to khaenri'ah because of a story quest, and is the source of her blood colored fire abilities.

Seeing this, I am more convinced that maybe Arlecchino wasn't the one who tried to stand atop the house, but it was instead Clervie who did everything to gain her mother's recognition. And maybe that seeing how far gone she was, she decided to force herself onto Arlecchino's blade. Or maybe I'm just high.

Clervie implies that they had a mother-daughter relationship, but that could also be explained by the terminology used in the orphanage. I'm unaware of anything that would allow us to say for certain, but I find the idea compelling. In the absence of evidence to the contrary, with the understanding that it could later be proven wrong, why not go with it? EDIT: It is, in fact, explicitly stated in the Japanese and Chinese versions that their relationship is biological.

Harbingers are the highest top ranked fatui, basically the executives and leaders under the Tsaritsa who is the Queen of Snezhnaya (the country that the fatui belong to). Arlecchino killed the previous Knave who was the lady she was fighting in the video and essentially took her position She is now the 4th ranked harbinger which is right under the top 3 that are considered comparable to gods. It is unknown what the previous knave's rank was. The fatui are a diplomatic group and are essentially the government for Snezhnaya, with assasins, diplomats, agents, soldiers and so on. The four people near the end of the video were some of the Harbingers, from left to right is the 6th, the director, 8th and (very likely) the 1st. The director guy who speaks basically leads the whole organization with/under the Tsaritsa. the Harbinger rankings are like this (they are all ranked by strength btw) Director - Pierro, code name : The Jester 1 - Il Capitano, code name : The Captain 2 - Il Dottore, code name : The Doctor 3 - Columbina, code name : Damselette 4 - Arlecchino, code name : The Knave 5 - Pulcinella, code name : The Rooster 6 - Scaramouche, code name : The Balladeer 7 - Sandrone, code name : The Marionette 8 - La Signora, code name : The Fair Lady 9 - Pantalone, code name : Regrator 10 - unknown 11 - Tartaglia, code name : Childe

A lot of people have theorize Pierro being number "0", due to the possibility of one Fontaine sidequest acting as allegorical foreshadowing to the origin of the Harbingers forming. Ashikai is just a well known lore theorist on KZbin so she helped popularize it. Whether or not the theory is true though, we don't know for sure as you said. However, base on process of elimination, it's honestly the most likely. Otherwise Capitano would have to be number "10", which would make Childe's comment of him from the voice-over section feel very weird considering such a context.

Just a few notes of mine: 1. We still don't know the origin of Arlechino's X-shaped eyes. However, it might just be aesthetic, as some characters have very unusual eye shapes already. (off the top of my head, i remember Hu Tao has flower-shaped pupils) 2. The details of her "curse" are also unknown, but the black gradient on her arms mirrors that of another character named Caterpillar, a Hilichurl who was given sentience and who sometimes takes the form of a small human boy with the same gradient on his arms and legs. Hilichurls themselves are the cursed citizens of Khaenri'ah, so perhaps Arlechino has some connection with them? 3. The framing makes it unclear, but it's possible Clervie took her own life rather than take out her best friend. In the shot from behind, her arms are not visible which could imply she's holding the hilt of the sword in front of her to drive it through herself. Arlecchino herself looks shocked after the time jump, and seemingly doesn't move at all when Clervie falls back with the sword still impaling her. In the reflection on the ground, we see Arlecchino is still holding her own sword in her right hand, and it doesn't have blood on it (unlike the one sticking through Clervie). 4. Arlechino is able to turn the fight around when she looks down and sees the Lumidouce Bell that is still planted in the ground, reminding her of Clervie. At the same time, her "curse" progresses further up her arms in the same way it did when she held the spider funeral in the opening scene. So my speculation is that her curse is connected to grief or mourning in some way - the more grief she endures, the stronger her power becomes. 5. 19:09 I think it's safe to say Arlecchino was the only one of the "children" left alive, so no one else could be charged with those killings.

I appreciate how you notice these details... btw, the window scene, Marco mentioned that the music gave an impression of "hoping" and add your observation you said the window synbolized "escapism"... really love these details. Regarding the ending, Arlechino wanted to be the opposite of mother. The Mother was faking kindness and gentleness but was actually abusing orphans. One can interpret that Arlechino being stern and unfeeling father but is actually really caring of the children under her.

I had to pause mid reaction because I really wanna thank you for doing these videos and this one especially. this video is worth so much more to me than any genshin cc's reaction to this animation that I've seen today because all they talk about is how good arleccino looks (which is true, the animation is very good quality) but that's it, while you took time to analyse and understand little things that matter a lot, like the choir of children singing like it's all the fallen orphanage children speaking through her resolve, the question of whether arleccino truly understood the lesson of that final showdown or if she decided to follow in these footsteps but in her own twisted way... all of these little things noticed, brought to light and pondered upon are so important and I can't stress this enough! thank you once again for reacting to hyv's videos so thoroughly, it holds so much value ❤

The house of the hearth is still functionally the same, training orphans to become elite agents of the Fatui. But the knave chose to go by father to differentiate herself from her mother and chose to raise the kids with strict indifference rather than the fake doting her mother employed (even though she probably cares much more for her children than the mother ever did). Going off of the 4.6 version trailer, I’m guessing that she also removed the process of having the children eliminate each other and instead pairs them up and sends them on dangerous missions with the end goal being to have one of the teams challenge, defeat, and replace her. Still cold and ruthless, but not quite as twisted, I guess? 😅

So Harbinger's are a group of elite people in an organization called the Fatui (pronounced Fah-too-ee in game). Their number is based on power ranking or thought to be. Higher the number, the stronger they are and Arlecchino is number 4, with her title being "the Knave." Her "Mother" was the previous Knave and as we seen in this animation, she is killed her and took her place. That's where the "legacy of bloodshed" comes from. Not from Arlecchine herself but from the title "the Knave." House of the Hearth is an Orphanage that Arle was raised in and took over after she killed her "Mother" and now she took up the mantle of "Father" because she hated the "Mother." So she finds Orphans and raises them in the house and instead of having them kill each other, she has them become operatives that go on missions. Some more dangerous than others. As for her curse, we don't know for sure yet. There is speculation that it has to do with Khaenri'ah, fallen country that's fall is very important to the story, and some speculate it has to do with the crimson moon Dynasty. During this era, a crimson moon shined over Khaenri'ah and we know this from an in game book called "Legend of Perinheri" which released in the most recent patch and Perinheri is close to Arlecchino's real name. In the book though it talks about a sage of this era suggested to the then-ruler that an organization be established to house children who came from beyond this world, hoping that one such child would have the power to transcend the gods.

Her curse is basically related to more blood arts or magic. Her own natural element is fire but her curse which came because of either experimenting (by Dottore possibly. The injection shot in the middle was too fishy to ignore)or some sort of lineage from the crimson moon Dynasty and Perinheri because her actual name as we see in this was Peruere.

To your last question about a good thing or a bad thing: it's _a_ thing. It's basically a common pattern in the cycle of abuse. The grandparents are physically abusive, the parents say "I am NEVER going to be my parents" and they try to do better (while still having trauma), but it then becomes something where they _can't_ face their own problems or anyone pointing out their problems because they can't face the possibilities of becoming their own parent… and they become emotionally abusive in turn. They can always say "I never switched you with a peach switch!" and because they've never done that they tell themselves "I am not abusive." They are still traumatized and this still manifests, just not as _physical_ abuse. So The Knave sees how "Mother" acted and it was multidimensionally a Problem™… so she swings entirely the other direction and thinks she's doing right by them. She cares. She's trying. And also: still abusive. She's #4 of the Fatui Harbingers, and we know that the top 3 Harbingers are basically on the level of the gods/archons in terms of their power (though that is not always _physical_ power, it can refer to social power or other things). Her power is _immense_ and she has a group of devoted and coercively trained orphans who are trained in spying and assassination and who are _absolutely_ devoted to her.

The previous Knave that Arlecchino replaced was her "Mother". So not only did Arle take over the role of "Father" of the orphanage (House of the Hearth), but also the role of the Knave in the Fatui. I really love learning about Arle's backstory and I'm interested in learn more about her curse later on. We don't know too much about her right now other than some bits revealed in quests and now this animation. There's also some theories that are interesting, but I won't get into them rn lol. But we should learn more when she becomes playable in about a week.

I loved your take on the video it was so calming! 1) The friend is the biological daughter to the previous Knave which is why when the Mother said she should have pruned it sooner essentially saying her daughter wasn't to her standards 2) Knave is the 4th harbinger (harbingers being the 11 chosen by the Cryo Archon herself to serve her purpose) fun fact the Harbinger's code names are based on an old play unfortunately the name slipped my mind 3) Arlecchino killed the 'mother' and therefore replaced her 4) Arlecchino's hands: now we aren't completely sure because there are two possible answers in game one being; Celestia will curse different nations and turn them into monsters and some of the cursed can maintain human forms like this one npc who with the help of a really powerful entity was able to have a human form with the same black markings so some believe that Arlecchino is a hilichurl. The second theory is due to a book released days before her marketing stating that there is a house that summons and looks after children from other worlds so people also think that she could be from another world, the house in question being the House of the Hearth where Arlecchino was raised then took over after defeating the mother. 5) The King title is likely refers to whoever is the most likely successor to take over the House of the Hearth due to the livestream where Arlecchino says the same thing to another character Lyney who was deemed the heir. 6) The past of slaughtering fellow orphans was a tradition during the previous Knave's leadership. This is what Pierro was referring to when he said past of slaughter. 7) Finally Arlecchino takes on the name Father due to the previous Mother being sweet on the outside and a devil inside, but as a Father she will be cold on the outside but caring on the inside. I think that was everything hopefully this wasnt to abstract I kept it a little vague to not spoil too much! Genshin is such a good game with a really rich story and I hope you can enjoy it as well!

Arlecchino hails from Khaenri'ah. Her eyes show that she is a descendant from the royal Crimson Moon lineage that used to rule the nation. This is the reason for her Balemoon Bloodfire (the curse). This lineage is older than the one that, for example, Kaeya and Caribert are from, and that's why their eyes are different.

The house of the Hearth is an orphanage run by the Fatui. They take in orphaned children from all over and use them as Fatui foot soldiers when they’re older and as spies as kids. They’re trained to enact the will of the Tsaritsa and further the Fatui’s goals. It’s been implied there are a lot of different branches but the Fontaine one is overseen by Arlecchino herself though she oversees all of them with the help of “managers” who manage the other branches. So she’s kinda like the CEO of the House. The “Mother” was a Harbinger who are a bit like Generals for the Tsaritsa. The best and baddest of them all so-to-speak. They say that the top 3, Pierro (the director or first harbinger), Dottore (2nd), and Columbina (3rd) are like gods in their power and strength. Which is probably why you don’t ever see any of them with a vision. They are ranked by strength, so Arlecchino is 4th. However Childe is rank 11th. So he’s dead last and the weakest of the lot. You have to fight your way up the ladder so to speak to increase your rank. However Childe admits that he has yet to be Capitano who is likely 10th, just above him. So Arlecchino is stronger than Childe but weaker than Dottore and Columbina. The man who spoke to her at the end is Pierro (he is likely a full blood Kheanri’ahn). He is the first Harbinger and Director of the Fatui. He operates directly under the Tsaritsa. Who is the Cryo Archon, in case anyone forgot. As for her eyes and arms, we’re not entirely sure but theories suggest something to do with Kheanri’ah. We’ll know more later!

The "Mother" was the previous 4th Harbinger (Arlecchino/Knave), and now that Arlecchino beat her, Arlecchino became the new 4th Harbinger.

I think the flower that is wilting is supposed to represent her friend. She was wearing a necklace that looked similar before she died. On top of that, (quoting from genshin wiki) the description of the plant is quite telling too. It's called Lumidouce Bell -> "A serene and tranquil violet flower. It has a light, soft, and lasting scent and is often used for making rare perfumes. Lumidouce Bell is said to represent parting and the wish for reunion. In Coppelius's play Golden Hyperborea, the flower is referred to as "Weeping Crystal." The play depicts a homesick flower wandering in the freezing lands of the north. Its beauty is made eternal by the icy winds. Critics of Coppelius's time thought that he was obsessed with eternal beauty and eternal love-this obsession was written into every line of his last works."

I would say that the reason Arle couldn't match mother at first wasn't that Arle wasn't stronger or that she leveled up but more that her anger was clouding her judgment and she was fighting way more aggressive and sloppy style as the mother was clearly a parry to counter fencer. Once she saw the flower that represented her friend Clervie that her anger subsided and she started to fight with very little movement and clear purpose which pushed her ahead to allow her clear difference in strength shine.

Idk if I’m making this theory up, but I’m pretty sure there’s theories going around that she might be a descendant. And the fact that Kabukimono (Scaramouche) is in that scene. So that either means he’s only there for us viewers because we know he was a harbinger, or that Peruere remembers him because she’s a descendant and therefore wasn’t affected by irminsul when Kabukimono messed with time to erase himself.

For me I believe she took the next Harbinger's position as "the mother" (except took the role of a father) so the children could grow to eventually hate her and not feel lied to. But I also feel that she truly loves them whereas her mother only used them.

The Fatui Harbingers are a small and exclusive group of people chosen by the cryo goddess The Tsaritsa, giving them god-like power and executive authority. This is why it is so extremely impressive (and terrifying) that Arlecchino killed a Harbinger. They are ranked by power/ability, and Arlecchino is 4th- extremely impressive (and also terrifying), considering we have previously fought the 11th (Childe/Tartaglia) 8th (Signora), and 6th (Scaramouche). Signora and Scaramouche both appear in the shot where Pierro is relaying the Tsaritsa's decree, along with Capitano, who has yet to appear in-game. The "legacy of bloodshed" was left by the previous head of the House of the Hearth- the "Mother" that put up a false front of being sweet and doting, but was actually hiding her cruelty. The House of the Hearth is an orphanage run by the Fatui, and under Crucabena (the Mother), she appears to have essentially forced all of the children into a Hunger Games-esque scenario, with there only being one winner. That's what the fairytale was at the beginning- a sweetened storybook like version of the cruel reality that was to come, grooming and gaslighting these children. Puerere likely didn't kill Clervie- Clervie instead impaled herself onto the sword, so her friend could be the 'King', and didn't have to kill her. A form of self-sacrifice. The wilted flowers Crucabena was holding were Lumidouce bells, and Clervie had a lumidouce bell necklace, so she was talking about that she should have killed Clervie earlier because she was too soft. Also, Crucabena very much did not intend to Arlecchino to kill and replace her, so she did not fall into the hands of "Mother". And thus, Arlecchino decided to never be like Mother after what she went through, essentially becoming the opposite. Crucabena had pretended to be a loving mother and groomed and gaslighted the children in the House of the Hearth, masking her cruel intentions behind a motherly warmth. Arlecchino instead chose to become the cold and unfeeling Father, who ACTUALLY cares about the children of the Hearth and has abolished the Hunger Games, instead raising her Children to be soldiers and spies. Unlike Mother, Arlecchino truly cares about the children in her charge, despite not showing them that love and warmth due to her own trauma. In her eyes, it's likely best to keep her distance with them, as she had seen how Crucabena's fake love had affected all of the other children and herself- and most importantly, her beloved friend, Clervie. As for the curse? We do not know the full details of her curse yet, but it is highly suspected she has some connection to the lost kingdom of Kaenri'ah that was destroyed by Celestia and the Archons 500 years ago, which has been heavily tied to the plot of Genshin from the very beginning, as the Traveler was present during that time. There is a world quest with a boy named Caterpillar that has similar curse markings, and the Hilichurl curse has actually been around for thousands of years prior to the fall of Kaenri'ah. It doesn't just happen to half-blooded Kaenri'ans, but apparently any former subject of the gods who turns their back on them. However, Arlecchino's curse seems to present much differently, despite the same black hands- we will have to wait and see in her story quest when it comes out. Also, another small detail- the child choir is in latin, which has been used in every Fatui Harbinger boss fight theme so far. The song is FOR Arlecchino.

2:51 yes, finally someone recalled that! Sorry, seen about 3-5, and only one other remembered the story at the beginning. Might’ve been breakdowns, but still. Ahem, also, rant below. Don’t mind me, and sorry, also not that related to the video. I haven’t had much time to play games, so I started ranting about them. Also, if anyone comments here, please keep spoilers from the last few months (yes, literal months of time) out. I’ve been too busy with college since the end of the main story at Archon quest Fontaine part 4 or something (whatever ended Furina and had the scene with the flying hydro dragon). Plan to catch up over summer break, but wanted to look at this standalone animation, since I want to find a drive to get back to Genshin. Btw, for anyone doing something similar with not playing games, voluntary or not, try to avoid Twitter and the KZbin home page when unable to play games for longer periods of time. I caught up with Star Rail just two nights ago after being spoiled for a major plot point of the main story (which came out only a few days to a couple weeks ago) on Twitter, just because I wanted to grab a reference for drawing a scene. Man, that ticked me off. Also had multiple KZbin thumbnails spoiling H:SR story stuff, boss stuffs, and also Genshin stuff. Note: It seems only Honkai Impact is safe. Haven’t seen much anywhere haha. Still was amazing when I played the 2nd part of HI3 about 1-2 months ago, especially that starting cinematic. Y’know, I think I can’t wait to get done with college. In my final semester for an associates degree (for a necessary career thing), so I have to prioritize the next couple weeks, but man, getting back to such great content is such a massive temptation and desire right now. Can’t wait, though I hope my finals go well. Sorry, this has now become a rant. Bah, I’ll just add a warning above.

Arlecchino becomes everything her 'mother' isn't. Shes cruel and uncaring because her mother was kind and caring on the surface, but they both were opposite in secret. Mother/father. The next event in game I predict will mirror this but also have an opposite ending. Instead of killing everyone she loves and succeeding her mother, lyney (a character arlecchino cares for) will fight her with his friends and support and not inherit her throne.

For sure, however though Lyney probably won't inherit the positon of King yet, he might in the future. He's just not ready for the moment, as he says he's terrified by the idea. But he probably will one day, possibly post the game's events, and will just run the orphanage as a regular one, just taking care of the children like a normal parent. Could be.

Mother is talking about Clervie, the dead friend. If you notice, Clervie wears a necklace with a flower like that on it. She's saying she should have killed Clervie herself long ago when she was still vibrant. Before her will "wilted". Arlecchino calls herself Father because the word Mother is too tainted in her eyes. She inherited the House of the Hearth, yes, but she refuses to be another Mother. Mother was a Harbinger and Arlecchino was made to take her place. Arlecchino killed Mother for freedom but ended up being made to continue her work.

A lot of these reactors you're talking about are professionals in something related to the piece of media they're watching, cinematography, music, animation... I think that might be something their job/studies pushes them to do or have the habit.

This is very new and we should know more on the next update of the game. Arlecchino is in charge of an orphanage. We have now discovered that she was in fact raised in an orphanage. Sadly I don't know whether the children are happier with "Father" then the children were with "Mother".

I think the "Mother" wanted to have Arlecchino as a puppet; she wanted to groom Arlecchino into this powerful solider BUT under her own control, probably just for power and greed. Arlecchino then decided to become the exact opposite of her "Mother", aka "Father". Super excited for her!

Actually unclear if they actually are ranked by strength. Pantalone is just the banker, and yet is ranked higher than the fighter Childe. In chinese, the Fatui are also said to be ranked by "strength", but there is more nuance to the word. It basically means the level of usefulness or ability a Harbinger holds. In the Inversion of Genesis quest for example, Signora tells Scaramouche he's ranked 6th and above her only because he's a puppet who can endure more physical pain than a human.

"Mother" was the previous Arlecchino who acted kind but was cruel. She once told a child to burn down a village. Each child in the house are allowed to have friends but must kill their friends to become "King". Peruere killed the previous Arlecchino only to replace them later under the order of the Tsaritsa. Our Knave became "Father" for the kids in the House of the Hearth and acted opposite. The Knave acted cruel but was kind to the kids coz she wants the kids to be strong since the world outside can be cruel.

People have already probably explained most of these to you but I will do my best to collect answers! - "Harbinger" is a title for the direct subordinates of the Cryo Archon, the top harbingers are nearly or more powerful than other archons. They are ranked by strength, and Arlecchino is fourth. Other harbingers you may know are Childe (the weakest, number 11), Wanderer/Scaramouche (number 6), and Signora (number 8). - Both Arlecchinos run "The House of the Hearth," an orphanage turned child soldier factory. "Mother," the previous Arlecchino with the red hair, was superficially loving, but Freminet is still afraid of her and doesn't like to speak about what she did to him. "Father," the current Arlecchino, says she's cold and strict but her children Lyney, Lynette, and Freminet seem to genuinely care for her (despite also being scared.) Running the house of the hearth just seems to be the role associated with the title. -We don't yet know about her curse or her eyes. There is one other character who we know of who has the same blackened limbs, and interestingly he is a sentient hilichurl who is able to transform into a human due to being experimented on. We don't know what this means for Arlecchino but of course there are many theories. - She has a pyro vision in addition to whatever the scary red power is (probably her curse).

The mother had the power of cryo and Arlecchino is confirmed to be a pryo user. So when the mother created the sword it was from cryo and of course cryo with pryo in genshin creates melt. We dont know anything of her curse yet and hopefully we learn in the next patch. As for the house of the hearth. It is known to take in children and help build the armies for the fatui. Maybe when the mother was she was incharge they were more wanting members for the Harbingers so trying to find the strongest and raise them up. Think like the whole blood mist village from Naruto. They kind of did but then they also lost the former Harbingers known as the Knave which was mother. As a side note. The 4 Harbingers they had when she was pardon of her crimes and raised. They all said to be over 500 years old. So 1 burning question is. Were their only the 4 at the time she was raised and they only been filling out there numbers since or were the others out and about
