While the sheer lack of PPE is quite distressing i know that practically all the workers that do this sort of work in what amount to backyard shops can't afford to even get the basics let alone the specialty stuff you'd need to handle this amount of molten metal (full reflective suit to mitigate the heat) so they make do with whatever they can get their hands on to provide even the barest amount of protection.
