The late Wendy O Williams. She embodied metal/punk lifestyle. Never took crap from anyone and lived her life. The female counterpart to Lemmy from Motorhead.

Hello...remember going to see her in concert in London at the Hammersmith Odeon..a great venue for all kinds of bands. Maybe early eightees...just seen Blondie on her Parallel Lines tour there. I'm sixty four now so my memory is a bit wobbly! Anyway..hundreds of hard core punks waiting outside to see this amazing artist..and half an hour before the show the G.L.C (greater london council) decided it hadn't meet their safety standards and banned it! I have never seen so many police suddenly appear! We left before it all kicked off..never made the press. R.I.P Wendy..I still listen to No hope for the Wretched in our ever evolving nanny state.

She does two amazing primal screams at the very beginning of Put your love in me; most amazing! You can feel them start from her toes, and rise. Amazingly powerful vocalist. 3:56 Wait for it..... 😁👍🏻
@hosermcmoose Жыл бұрын
The most ridiculous thing is not even close to her toes, before that she is actually throat-singing this song. That is something from indigenous North American culture and/or from Mongolian culture (there is an overlap from 30,000 years ago). It is an almost impossible sound to make without engaging the very bottom of your vocal tract! How Wendy 'O engages this and actually sings it naturally as part of her song is mind-blowing!

My favorite song by the plasmatics
@riphopfer5816 Жыл бұрын
The Plasmatics had a very cool sort of post-apocalyptic atmosphere to them. Their stage shows would often feature Wendy, clad in nought but a few strategically placed bits of gaffer tape and a welder’s mask, using a diamond-edged circular saw to cut through scrap steel onstage, or else welding bits of pipe together, or fuck knows what other kind of industrial madness. On top of that, Wendy went HARD. She could party like nobody else. In fact, She and Lemmy Kilmister of Motörhead were close friends (and more) for a time, and she was the only woman who could match him line for line, shot for shot. Lifestyle aside, she was a fashion icon for a generation of taboo-defying women; more importantly, she was an icon of personal freedom for EVERYBODY.

The Plasmatics played at a nightclub where I worked. When they were loading in, someone left a big wood thing near a door, so I moved it out of the way. Soon they were running around looking for the "execution stand." It was a prop for when they chain-sawed a guitar on stage. Ooops.
@DanJackson19774 жыл бұрын
Glad you dug it man.. they were really unique. Yeah Wendy did host Headbangers ball for a bit. Lemmy and Philthy Phil from Motorhead were the 1st HBB hosts... and Lemmy and Wendy were really good friends. Actually the first lineup of Motorhead broke up because of her. The 2 bands did a song together and the guitarist of Motorhead hated Wendy.. said she had no class. But Lemmy stuck up for her so the guitarist quit. Motorhead had a song called No Class that Wendy covered.. and Lemmy dedicated it to her when she died.
