German small arms are overpriced, over engineered, and not required by India. The AK 203, SIG 716, and Negev 7 can arm up to 90% of all Indian men under arms. The Arjun is overweight, underfunded, and overpriced. It is also full of imported German systems. The Arjun program should have been cancelled years ago.

India has a bunch of psu built on the pedestal of inefficiency by the great grand father Nehru. Now to make them productive we have to make them efficient or handover the program to the private sector. Indian private sectors are not like Boeing, Dassault or Lockheed Martin with deep pockets to turn around expensive military toys. Only way is to have a participation which they can afford and make the public sector efficient and deliver results. A 70 year old inefficiency cannot be overturned in a decade.
