So many people think they don’t have an accent because the way their community talks is just “normal” to them. Everyone has an accent because an accent is just a local way of speaking. Accents are beautiful and people should be proud of them (except Australians of course).

It is an accent because everyone speaks with an accent, even in their native language. It is just their localized accent, which will sound like the default to them. Everyone in this video was easy for this American to understand. Anyone who is mean to someone for having an accent they find difficult to understand probably needs to travel to a different country and learn to speak in a different dialect or language in order to learn some humility and empathy.

I'm Indian, and yes it is an Indian accent. An "Accent" in this context is when the phonic muscle memory (unconscious tongue movements) of a first language, carries over to a second language. That is true for English speakers in India, Vietnam, China, Japan, or any other country. Because in Goa, I grew up speaking only English (my only fluent language), I don't have much of an accent. But that isn't a flex, the flex is most Indians are tri-lingual and above.

omg for all the people, I don't agree completely with those guys either. But the thing he's trying to show is that we indians say the sounds fully, like the R sound is actually pronounced unlike other accents, similarly with other sounds. this is mainly because most Indian languages have an entirely phonetic vocabulary. the way we write is exactly the way we say it

People with insecurity problems try not to compare themselves to Americans challenge: Not only do we have ZERO need to learn another language since 99% of the population speak English, but we’re far from most countries, and it’s not as if the Japanese are bilingual either? See? You just have an America bias

Honestly, I'm just glad their accent isn't so heavy that I can't understand what their saying. Almost all English accents get made fun of at some point. Part of American culture is making fun of each other at some point. Though if you grew up abroad, you may not understand it.

Though an accent may sound normal to someone who speaks it. To someone else it sounds completely differently. So someone may have a hard time understanding an American accent as well. As their ears may be tuned to what their used to.

While a lot of Indian people in India speak English very well, their English is very different from how other countries that speak English talk. It’s all dependent on cultural and linguistic background. In Australia, the UK, the US, Canada, and for example Singapore, a lot of people speak the same “standard English” and all have different accents, but even their grammar, expressions and word choice is different based on the country. It’s actually fascinating when you think about it and do some research. In conclusion, Indian English is different than “standard English” because such a thing doesn’t exist! It’s not a bad thing, but it is interesting to reflect on.

I think people from India typically speak 3 languages minimum, so I'm not sure why Americans (who typically struggle to speak one language) would 🤔
