My favorite movie. My second favorite scene (After the one where Alfred redeems himself and saves his father's life).
@cherylhulting1301 Жыл бұрын
There's nothing really to "redeem" because Alfred didn't do anything wrong. He's about as straight arrow as it gets. Alfred and Samuel inherited their father's youthful desire to serve a bigger cause but chose different paths to do it than their father did. They did not yet have his experience to ask questions about other people's motivations when they served. Colonel Ludlow won't get in the way but he did show a consistent pattern of dismissing any ambitions that didn't match his own ideas. His big mistake as a father is showing such blatant favoritism to Tristan that he in some ways shuts his other two boys out. It's a big moment when Alfred rejoins his family by killing to protect the father who had shut him out. Alfred also does so at great risk to himself - he's an elected official who kills another government official. Alfred is the brother who will come in and clean things up when the impetuous acts of others land them in hot water. He saves his father and will end up raising his brother's children.
@ziegle9876 Жыл бұрын
@@cherylhulting1301 I largely agree. Though inheriting character does not mean you have to repeat the mistakes..... For that, listening to the wisdom of your father is one of the most important things in the life of a son. And maybe the favoritism Col Ludlow shows is because he sees in Tristan someone who does not bow to evil authority..... So not repeats his mistakes. That he made many other mistakes and did not become a better man that way is another story.

0:39 It’s the way he chuckles knowing they’re basically stitching his son up to their own bidding, and his son doesn’t see it when blinded by his own ambitions. The way they all giggle around the father like weasels only reinforces that supposition - the fact that none of them answer ‘what do you all expect to get out of this?’ clarifies it’s shady, whatever it is…

Well said Sir Anthony, and now inmigrants are the issue those days... sad.
@MrCheckitout1237 жыл бұрын
immigrants are not an issue, illegal immigrants are an issue. refugees from areas with high threat levels are an issue. why do you not protest the governments of countries that these illegal immigrants flee from. here is list of Mexico's embassies. i'm sure your near one. embassy-finder.com/mexico_in_usa protest the oppressors, not the result of the oppression. as for indians, ask the Pawnee about the Lakota Suiox. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massacre_Canyon things were not all rainbow and butterflies on the plains. i'm 1/4 Lakota Sioux. Husband to a Immigrant and great grandson to an Immigrant.

MrCheckitout123 Indians were ilegal these times and they este not criminals so inmigrants without a paper, they are just people that want a job
@MrCheckitout1237 жыл бұрын
so protest the countries that do nothing for their people/citizen. what those oppressive governments do is create an economic environment that forces their own citizen to risk life just to arrive in America. Why? the governments have vested interest, the more workers they have in America the more remittance flows back to their economy. Less those leader have to do to improve their own economy. illegal migration is big business/big money to those South American Governments, why do you think Mexico's President pushed back so hard. like i said, protest the Oppressor not the result of the Oppression. the enforcement of the immigration policy and law, will only help the people within those counties by putting that government to task of building their own economy, not leeching off America's.

*“The recognition of the fact that Congress has no resources of its own forces us to acknowledge that the only way Congress can give one American one dollar is to first, through intimidation, threats, and coercion, confiscate that dollar from some other American. If a private citizen did the same thing that Congress does, we would call it an immoral act-namely theft. Acts such as theft that are immoral when done privately do not become moral when done collectively. The moral tragedy that has befallen Americans is our belief that it is okay for government to forcibly use one American to serve the purposes of another”* ― Walter E. Williams
