@@solarlola5953 Our hair can retain length while frolicking in the wind. It just needs to be clumped, either by our sebum, gel, and/or pomades e.g lanolin. It likes being together, strength in numbers. Separating the curls we have is what leads to problems.

@@GalacticIndulgence it’s actually been working very well in length retention . But I believe prayer is the main component for fast growth rate. I saw a video about praying for long hair..l cried to God for long hair and my hair is the longest it’s ever been. This October I’ve grown almost 2 inches of hair.. my hair usually grows 1/4 but I’ve been getting a steady 1inch a month. I know it sounds far fetched but I’ve got nothing to gain from lying.

Speaking of manipulation I finally stopped the weekly washes a couple of months ago. I realized that was just overkill for my lifestyle/activity level. My hair became so brittle, dry, shed more, thinned out and flaky itchy scalp. That was with me using the natural sulfate free shampoos too. I realize weekly washing was just too much manipulation for me. I only wash once a month now and my hair is flourishing finally. I don't do cowashing either. My hair holds moisture better and my itchy flaking scalp is finally GONE!! My hair is getting thicker. If I feel I need to clean my scalp in between I will use witch hazel and a washcloth. I'm done following the crowd. I think there's a lot of over washing and trimming these days. I noticed a common theme with natural afro hair types that are waist length and beyond...they do not wash/cowash weekly. This includes those long haired ladies in Chad using Chebe.

You're lucky. I am the opposite. I have to wash every week otherwise my hair will break like crazy. However, I only use natural hair cleansers such as moisturizing types of African black soap, clay (e.g. rhassoul), and cleansing ayurvedic herbs. I only use store bought shampoos to clarify once in a long while since I am low porosity. People are different.

That is the best thing you could have done stop all that shampooing. I shampoo 2-3 times a year out when I notice my gray turning yellow. So not often. I used to shampoo every two weeks then once a month but kept noticing my hair did better the less I b shampooed. So I went to every quarter and now 2-3 times a year. No issues I have some breakage here and there but that doesn’t bother me I just add more Shea butter to that area 🥰 Hopeful you find a routine that works for you. 4C Love

Another thing that can cause breakage is stress. I had a HUGE hair setback from last fall up until around March 2020 because I was super stressed and depressed and I was going thru so much during that time frame. I lost so much hair and I have so much breakage in my crown area and the hair there is now shorter and the back of my head has way less hair now. I used to have a full thick head of hair, now only half of my head is like that 😬. Currently I have a much better routine now. I've always left my hair in twists before so im doing that now in combination with washing once a month and using natural products. Im also working out again and eating healthier. I feel good but my hair still has a long way to go

Hi! Jeulia, you put up a photo of your breakage, but there was nothing there? You have a lot of hair; this is significant. Some ppl have massive breakage, but they think it's ok because they have a lot of hair. So if you don't have 100 strands coming out daily you are doing something right. Can you make a video about how to shed less than 100 strands a day? No one would complain if we were only losing 10 hairs or less a day!

New subscriber here! You’ve got lovely head of hair Indie S. 🙂(hope you don’t mind me calling you that). You’re definitely a role model especially to little girls with type 4 hair. My daughter’s 8 with type 4c hair. Never trimmed her hair and started African threading her (exclusively) from the age of 1. It’s thigh-length and still growing 😅😅 Finger detangling takes me 6-7 hours. It’s slow, labour intensive but rewarding as the breakage is almost non-existent (minimal). I usually let her hair rest for a day after finger detangling before washing, conditioning, and styling. That in itself (day 2) takes me 12-14 hours (backbreaking, yes!) That’s why she carries that style for 6-8 weeks before I take it down. So yes, you’re spot on about the need to keep manipulation minimal 😊 I’ll definitely show her some of your videos. You’re a role model Indie S! 🥰🥰🥰

So another KZbinr Curly chemistry said that our hair both does and doesn't like water. However are hair is made of oils so it likes oils. Also the oil isn't moisturizing our hair but replenishing oil to its core or dealing depending on the oil, moisture is still basically water. You tend to feed your hair both with oil and aloe, as well as using flaxseed gel which grabs moisture from the air. I do however have this crazy suspicion that creams are not for our hair. Yes they make your hair Curly but they cause the most build up and for me leads to matting when doing twist outs.

What about breaking on wash day? I always see little broken pieces of hair and I swear I’m doing everything right in my routine. Is this normal?

Hello, I know this is from two years ago but I was suffering from the same thing. Despite retaining length, I knew this was still a problem. When spritzing my hair, I brewed a tea to include in my spritz for moisturizing. Green tea helped me and now I only get natural hair shedding and one to two shed hairs from a twist. Also, during wash day, I would suggest doing a pre-poo of some sort before going to cleanse your hair. Or you need a gentle cleanser. I have high porosity high density hair but my individual hair strands are fine. I have a ton of volume and density but because of my strands, they love to hug and wrap one another. ESPECIALLY during wash day! I would recommend that you do the following: 1. If you wash with Ayurvedic herbs, I would use Ambunu as it has a ton of natural slip and it’s cleansing. 2. Wash your hair in sections. After detangling, I part my hair into sections and twist them up. Each twist gets unraveled when I’m either water washing, doing an Ayurvedic mask, or washing with Ambunu. 3. Try adding a humectant to your cleansing agent The spritz I made for myself to really minimize my breakage and only see natural shedding is as follows: - two tablespoons of fenugreek seeds - one cup of filtered thunderstorm water that I collected (I use this to slowly steep my green tea); you can substitute purified water or pick up rain water on Amazon - One cup of aloe Vera juice Oh, I would also prioritize finding out your hair’s density as a whole, porosity and hair strand thickness. Hope this was helpful 😊

@@marlishajean1283 not a problem! Honey is a great humectant! Also, try detangling with okra, it has quite the slip.

@?? Because she said nothing last forever in the video. So thats probably why she made this comment. Oh and we dont have to earn it all we have to do is ask God to forgive us our sins and that we accept Jesus as Lord and Saviour of our lives and God comes through just like that. His grace cant be bought its given to us freely if we want it. Just ask! Be blessed
