Individuation, Carl Jung and the Psychology of Soul

What does it really mean to mature psychologically and spiritually? Carl Jung’s answer to that question was what he called ‘individuation’ - a lifelong process aimed toward becoming whole, unique, and integrated. But what does that mean practically? What is its deeper, esoteric psycho-spiritual goal? How does it relate to archetypes, our shadows, and even our souls? In this transmission, we explore.

@@mrwojna I, personally, realized that we are connected to everyTHING and everyBODY! 😊 And, I had an encounter with my higher self? I just come out of being deeply depressed and I heard her say “The fullness comes from the stability, and the stability comes from the fullness.” This happened to me while meditating and I stopped and wrote it down so I would never forget it. And, Jung is the only one I’ve heard call it fullness. I’ve mostly heard wholeness. ❤✌️

I was born a truth seeker and just had a strong pull to follow that. I was unable to sell my soul and ended up having to leave my entire alcoholic family behind, friends and even my sons! This path has been incredibly painful and I wished at times I could just sell my soul!! Losing my adult sons put me in the worst depression I could ever been. I was afraid I was going to go insane. The pain was intolerable. Incredibly, at the bottom of that dark hole I reached out to a therapist and Coda and was able to make some of the most profound growth work on myself that has released me from some manipulative lies instilled in me as the "scapegoat" child. Unconsciously I believed that I was unloveable and always wrong. My life has exploded is the most wonderful ways since releasing that. That is why I keep seeking the truth. For the light at the end of the tunnel that is always there and always worth it.

Besides all the pain you had to endure, I hope this “finding yourself”, individuation phase you mention has been good. I think I’m going through this process, I just recently moved to another country, after a serious relationship and quitting my job. It’s a struggle, but a gratifying one, and I’m thankful for being truthful to myself

A reflection at 11:41 is that myself and others who have suffered trauma (especially in spiritual community) have greater access to the psycho spiritual by remaining in the womb and reject leaving our fantasy world because “egos are bad” and “we’re good”. It’s taken me almost three years of inner work to even get to the parts of me that are still in the womb. Jung (or some kind of individuation process) should really be taught in schools, becoming whole is essential to becoming human. Great vid bro

20:16 This really resonates with me. I had a revelatory awakening during a prolonged crisis. Full blown ego death, reintegration with Source, the works. After returning I found that life without the foundational illusions that I relied upon was chaos. Years later and I'm still integrating and learning how to balance participation in modern life with the direct experience of the transcendental nature of I Am/Source.

It's been a surprising, ever evolving, and exciting process to awaken. Carl Jung has been a huge part of my experience. It felt like I was dancing around answering the inner call for a couple of years, then last year I got out of a long term relationship which I think represented my attempt to hide from the full depth of my self and facing contact with my soul. Now, I am having regular breakthrough meditations and connecting with the deeper parts of myself on a daily basis. It feels amazing. So comforting to return to that inner world each day no matter what I go through.

As far as synchronicity goes... I'd started watching this a few days ago and stopped. Today, I went to therapy and my therapist pulled out his enormous facsimile copy of The Red Book for the first time, to show me a particular drawing. And I started rewatching this from the beginning - haha! I'd missed the reference to it first time (I wasn't paying full attention, either.) What's helping me lately is some of James Hollis' work. I listened to the audio of A Life of Meaning. That explained a lot and brought some clarity to the concept of the shadow, for one thing. Through the Dark Wood is next. Thank you!

For me the struggle is with the tenacity of my ego and its determination to stay in power. It’s so weird because “I” am so aware of its tricks. My mind is like a pinball, and I’m hoping once my shadow parts become more integrated, the pinball trait (ADD) will organically shrink and ultimately disintegrate; and presence, focus, and discipline will come naturally and not be so hard. Meanwhile I shall keep plugging away. I’ve been reading Robert Johnson’s “Inner Work” and remembering more of my dreams. I’m currently stuck staring at the first page of Part 3, “Active Imagination”. Dreams and dream analysis are SO fascinating (understatement). PS. I look forward to your upcoming transmission on the individuation process, which you mentioned in a previous comment.

I know that I have to write it down some things that comes in my mind randomly that are very deep and comes from unconscious and valuable, but I somehow hesitate to do it. Or to read The Inner Work of R. Johnson, somehow the Ego "protects" me, in the other hand I do the dream work where the unconscious reveal me all this very clearly... This is very interesting how the Nature works.

Life has given me the chance to dive deep into understanding myself through hardship and tragedy. Suffering has caused me to shed many old ways of being and taught me to consider who i really am. Dreams, meditation, and writing my thoughts have given me insights and glimpses of the great work of god to refine the souls of each individual. Last night, i had a dream of seeing many broken people approaching me. I could see the pain of their souls on their faces. I could see why they do the horific things to themselves and others. I was able to be an oberver of the why behind their actions. I was left with a sense of compassion and love for them. An understanding that made me feel at peace for them and then for myself. As i am just like them. I could see my own life challenges and observe and love myself. This 3rd party point of view made me realize how all of this is for our good and individual soul's growth. I want to continue on this path of growth and love for all humanity and creation. God, the source of all is also in a forever cycle of growth and love. What an amazing thing it is to be a conscious individual part of something glorious and grand.

Interesting explanation of the phases, I hadn't heard of that before. Phase 2 as I understood it is for developing an ego, it's a necessary stage but also a false sense of separation and in phase 3 we become whole individuals which is the true state of reality from a nondual perspective and according to monism in philosophy.

That’s exactly what I needed to hear at this particular moment of this polarised existence ❤ The “middle path” where the scale ⚖️ is balanced hemisphere are synched. Guidance to reintegration, individualisation through journey’s soul attempts of juggle through hard failures trials of self manifestation in a material world. Once the ability to consciously visualise a pathway for self expression, through consistency hard work. One may sudden rediscover that synchronicities do not exist. The veil that blinds is fissured, the overcloud dissipates, patterns are identified, mirroring behaviours, deflection, anger, denial, resentment and the frustration leading to the edge of the abyss of the dark night of the soul. Within perspective one may find out that, there is a only a one way ticket, that all the fragmented pieces can return to cohesion, the soul’s flame existence purpose reignites activating the soul’s union through physical & spiritual existence,an enlightenment occurs, the soul resurrects groundbreaking the cross piercing their roots into the branches already present on tree of life. The inner light switches on taking its place where all bulbs are shining individually equally coexisting in the collective. ❤

The term that has been presented to me for your last question has been referred to as the holy longing. Connie Zellweger Does a nice job unpacking this in her book Meeting the Shadow on the Spiritual Path.

It’s easy to get lost in the rainbow of Jung’s insights. Your clear almost black and white explanations are like those eye drops you mention…thanks.🤔

I'm not sure what phase I am in. It feels like 2nd phase due to some issues and repressed memories surfaceing. But I'm also feeling that call which is why I'm here. I've been remembering my dreams and write ing them down

A lifetime of alienation from being misunderstood. I say it’s a benefit, because I don’t care what anyone thinks. Somebody’s always going to think some thing no matter what I do, anyway. So I might as well make myself happy. Also, I found declaring any insecurities or weaknesses turn them into a shield or power. I am aware and I brought them and I’m still bringing them into the light, feel free to call me out or trigger me. Then I know what to do next. So not perfect

What the hell is pleroma lol. Do not miss opportunity to individuate - my purpose as a creature. ✍️✍️ I appreciate how you talked about individuation as it applied to Jung and his experience with Freud. Very intrigued by the Seven Sermons to the Dead. I do feel I'm in the 3rd stage, pushing through but sluggishly. Some times I feel these great moments of clarity and other times I feel lost in the sauce. Some barriers for me 🤔 .. finding the motivation to ponder and search (I think this has its roots in some recent sadness and disillusionment), a little bit of decision paralysis - where do I start?. I recently came across the phrase follow your curiosity and that's been helpful. Speaking of which, your podcasts have also been helpful :)

Your intelligent & articulate commentary on this subject is the best I've heard. Philemon. This is also a book in the New Testament Christian Bible. A letter written by Apostle Paul from prison to his friend Philemon. Wonder if theres any association in Jung's thoughts as to this name? Where can one get a good copy of Jung's redbook?

I think what I have been doing maybe akin to individuating, at least it’s been a sincere inward search. Lots of pain and dead ends so far, and fear. Also the confusion of individuation vs the drum beat of interconnectedness is a struggle for me. I’ve also wondered why the nom de plume on the seven sermons book. Fear? Thanks for the video!

I think the two logical options are 1. He truly believes it came from somewhere else, not himself. 2. Fear of professional repercussions. Maybe a bit of both?

Can you say more about your confusion? Are you sort of pointing to how interconnectedness seems… contra to individuation? Something like interconnectedness suggests a oneness and sameness whereas individuation is towards differentiation? If so, I will point to the interconnectedness of all the differentiated/unique parts in an ecosystem that sustains the system itself. The oxygen from trees, carbon dioxide for animals, the food chain, the water cycle, etc etc. The interconnectedness of the unique parts produces ecosystems capable of sustaining the variety of life. I have a feeling there’s a similar pattern in the interconnectedness of individuated individuals. I have a feeling I may have missed your point so just lmk!

Yes exactly or very close to your first paragraph. I feel like I’ve been individuating since I was 4 years old, but I have so much trouble due to my own ignorance, and inability to separate metaphors from literalism. Thanks for your further clarification! It’s truly a scary even maddening experience to do this work, as I walk down the highway towards the setting sun.

reading a book that explains these topics deeply. It is such a synchronicity that this video was sent to me. The book I am reading is by Dr. David Hawkins called the Eye of the I. Profound for continued guidence as we journey integrating spirit and soul as balanced mind, body, soul .
