IMPORTANT: Adult content. This video is NOT intended for children.
After buying an egg-shaped fiberglass camper called a Trillium Outback last winter, I finally made a much-desired addition to it: A pop-up indoor shower. Here's the complete video as to how I built it. I think every little trailer should have one!
Although especially designed for my own unique trailer, I assume the concept could be adapted to any small camper like a Casita, Scamp or Armadillo.
List of Components in order of appearance **:
(Note: As reference only, as every camper is different. Some size and links are approximate. Additional parts may be needed, and please measure before ordering anything. Amazon affiliate links provided for some items)
- Plastic Laundry Tub: amzn.to/3gj6uq6
- ½” x 8 feet PVC pipe with 4 elbows
- Shower Hooks (find better ones, mine sucked)
- 12V Power Washer: amzn.to/2zm9Ec9
- Garden Hose Sprayer: amzn.to/3gk5B0p
- Blowout Plug: amzn.to/3ejndYG
- Hose Clamp
- Broom Clip: amzn.to/2LZP8Ax
- 1/4" plywood to fit (seat cover)
- 1 ½ x 6” ABS pipe
- 1 ½ ABS pipe to drain adapter
- ABS 1 ½” cleanout adapter w/plug: amzn.to/3gpyMPC
- Funnel
- Fold-A-Carrier: amzn.to/36s86JJ
- 4 Gallon Camping Water Container: amzn.to/2zjkMqd
- 18-quart dishpan Dishpan: amzn.to/3d3ubRk
- PEVA Shower Curtain Liner: amzn.to/3dveeDL
** Miscellaneous components like fasteners, adhesives and salvaged parts not included
TOTAL COST: About $160 US. The laundry tubs are real cheap in Canada only $60.99 Cdn (about $45USD) at Rona, but I can't find it on Amazon.
SPECIAL NOTE: I could not find the 60W submersible heating element mentioned. There is one on Amazon but it is over TWICE AS HOT at 150 Watts: use with CAUTION): amzn.to/3d1TbrX

@@SlimPotatohead Or, if you still want to stash it, just get a few ring type ones and leave them on the curtain. Hold them together with a carabiner and you can slide them all on before you clip the rods into place. You could even mark one or two of the rings so you know between which ones you need to put your cord/clip. Great idea, though! I'm definitely taking some notes for the bus build I'm working on.
@SlimPotatohead
@SlimPotatohead 4 жыл бұрын
The shower hooks are definitely the weak part of the concept. What I may try are velcro straps on the curtains that are wide enough to pass over the pipe elbows of the shower rod. They would stay on the back curtain and go over the rod in seconds. But I think I'd still keep the front curtain separate. Should cut set-up time in half. Thanks! SP

@@SlimPotatohead I'm planning something *very* similar for "the van in my head" (One day!!!) Raised toilet (you sit down!) With a slide out tray underneath. Submersible pump clipped to the side for waste water (no outside drain?) Similar shower curtain to yours. Your pump/ shower head is great, I'll be stealing that pump! I was along similar lines with the heater as well, 12v fishtank heater. As you say, 5-10 litres @42° is fine, why over heat water to add cold?

Try using a fabric shower curtain it dries quickly and folds easier than the plastic. If you do use plastic. Use dollar store liner. Not as thick but it works and easier to store. Sew a pocket on the shower curtain (can be done by hand) put rod through. No clips. Disassemble three sides and fold/roll curtain. You can sew a plastic curtain too.

I'd use 3.5-inch carabiner clips, the type I use on the ends of my mountain climbing rope, for the curtains, Slim. The bonus is they're detachable and reusable for a thousand different uses and because they're made of aluminum for light weight, they don't conduct electricity so you can use them confidently to clip electrical lines in and around the trailer too. And to store several of them, you can clip them into a chain which you can use to extend the suspension of your overbed cargo net.

Slim. Consider this modification. Skip the pvc hoop and attach velcro to top edge of shower curtain. Hook-side of velcro on curtain can catch to existing fabric ceiling. Overlap curtain a bit beyond a full 360-degree enclosure, (perhaps 380 degrees), creating a lapping door entry to get in and out. Above all, please know that the utility of your shower is an improvement over the prior toilet. - Steve, Utah USA

They come in different sizes and you could hang it outside the camper on a hook or something, if you don't have solar panels. You can also get a 12 volt water heater for a water container and heat it up to the desired temp. This kind of video content will increase you subscribers and you may want to do a lot more of these kind of videos because you are showing what can be done with a small camper. When we are there in warmer weather, I leave one of those black shower bags on the roof of the cabin and let the water heat up and then shower when it's ready with the hose hanging off the roof. We are miles from civilization, so there is no risk of looky loos! Just wondering if using fabric type shower curtains would be easier in your setup.They fold up smaller than the plastic and you might be able to leave them attached to the curtain rod, and not have to reattach them at all. Just an idea! Take care! From BC-Sue

The skin cells, etc, washed off your body can attract insects and/or mice to the smell. In a camping area, you may not want flies, etc. attracted to the underside of your camper - and nearby campers don't want that, either.

@Cherrie McKinstry, don't be fooled by the "environmentally friendly" slogan. The issue is the sudsing ingredient. Insects and other important creatures breath through their skin. Sudsing agents drown them where water normally is just repelled. SP

Great job! But now I want to know the 'toileting procedure'. No need to show any skin.... ;)

No need for a conventional toilet. Lived 5-years in a van without one. Use a pee bottle and a plastic shopping bag in a bucket + some dirt. However eating the correct foods one can stay "regular" and plan for brown stuff with ease.

Watching your videos and how you make your camper showers is just amazing. You give me so many good ideas for my camper. And who cares how long it takes to set up because you have a shower and at the end of the day that's the greatest feeling is going to bed after a nice warm shower. keep up the great work.
