If anyone watching this is not familar with the Mazar e sharif / Qala i Jangi prison uprising in Afghanistan in 2001, I'd recommend searching YT for the 50-minute documentary "battle of qala i jangi 2001" and watching that first. It will give you some really good background on what the guest is talking about, including footage of the event.

Just wanted to thank you guys for all the content you all put out. I've gotten through Civil Affairs Selection and am in the process of going through their pipeline as a CA Officer. All the episodes you all put out are great, but I really feel the ones you all have with officers should be required listening for military officers. Both of your perspectives as NCOs and the officers you have on here really give great insight into the relationship officers should aspire to have with their NCOs and junior enlisted. All these episodes pump me up and I believe they are helping to educate future service members. Thanks again and I can't wait for the next episodes!

Listening to Justin talk about his experiences with the local Afghan fighters and his Teams just adds more context to the books "Masters of Chaos" and "Not A Good Day To Die: Operation Anaconda" that's I've read previously. Such an amazing group of men amongst those "Texas" ODAs that were in country first to fight.

@@chaoticcaninejb I was jumping with Ernie on day out of a twin otter on Rhine Luzon. He had that Protec helmet with the Kevlar cover on. We went to stand up and Ernie was having a hard time, so I grabbed him by his.main lift web, leaned back and pulled to help him stand up. He didn't move, and his eyes got as big a saucers behind his glasses. I thought he somehow had his gear hooked in the webbing of the seat, so I traced around him until I found the problem. He had forgotten to undo his seat belt. When we hit the ground I packed my gear and made my way to him. He said, "You aren't going to tell anyone are you?" I responded with, "Not until there is someone to tell." We laughed about that for a long time afterwards.

I've read, or more accurately listened to, The Horse Soldiers at least four times already and love it just as much every time. Unfortunately first in, Gary Schroen's book, has no audio version so I'm still crawling my way through it because I don't ever have time to sit down and read. This is the first time I've heard of the book First Casualty and I'm going to go track it down immediately. LOVE this episode!
